That brings back a ton of memories. We spent countless hours (and more than a few bottles) playing Intelivision football back in my youth.

I just need to get a Colecovision to complete the set of the 4 biggest competing consoles at that time.

Thank you for sharing this wonderful piece of retro gaming kit. I never had one of these, but it really is amazing for its time. Thank you also for sharing the troubleshooting process with the caps.

I had never seen one in action I think, great video!!! The LCR metre is such a great tool! I find it amusing to see the varying cartridge shapes, it's really unusual :D

Awesome video Jazzy, loved it. Sorry I deleted most of this post, don't like sharing a past and putting it out in the net. Thanks for the trip back.

Greetings. I really enjoyed this video. It is incredible the different consoles that came onto the market at that time and only the most recognized ones survived. I liked this one and the controls look good. Better than other consoles.

My jumble of thoughts... Yes, the Intellivision disc could register 16 directions, but as I recall, only a couple games really made use of them all. Space Hawk, which was a sort of Asteroids clone used them for turning your spaceman. I'm not sure I ever had any other games that used more than the typical eight directions. Maybe some did and I just didn't notice. Most people disliked the discs, so much so, that companies came up with various "solutions". There were replacement discs you could install that had small sticks on them. There were stick-on sticks that kind of looked like a Chess pawn. There was a frame that clamped around the controller and had a joystick centered over the disc. And finally, Wico made a full, replacement controller complete with an actual joystick and numeric keypad. They also made a replacement for the Atari 5200 controllers, but you had to buy the stick and keypad separately, and one wouldn't work without the other. Now, there are directions on the net for adapting a classic analog stick to work on the console. The Parker Brothers version of Frogger looks about equivalent on both the Intellivision and the Atari 2600. The graphics are somewhat different, but about the same level of detail. However, there is a second version of Frogger for the 2600. It was released on cassette for the Starpath Supercharger. It features much more detailed graphics that are closer to the arcade. I never owned a Colecovision back in the 80s, but I did find one in the trash several years ago. It was in a plastic bin with the expansion module for playing Atari games, three Atari 2600 consoles, and a bunch of games. Unfortunately, it didn't work. I forget now exactly what the problem was, but I believe the color was messed up and the games wouldn't play. Ironically, it DOES work with the expansion unit plugged in. Of course the expansion module was really just an Atari clone that used the Colecovision for power and A/V output. Two of the three Ataris works, the third wouldn't turn on. Then again, the plug from the power supply seemed liek a bad fit, so maybe that one takes a different plug. I think there were only two power supplies with them. All the Atari cartridges worked. Speaking of Coleco, I first had a Coleco Telstar Combat console. It never worked correctly. The picture was always distorted and rolled. Then I got a Coleco Telstar Arcade. The pack in cartridge never worked, so I never got to use the steering wheel. My parents had gotten me a second cartridge, so I could play pong and target shooting. After a month or two, the gun started to malfunction, such that it would score a hit no matter where it was pointed. You could leave it in the console's holster and get a perfect score every time. Seems like Coleco's QA department wasn't the best.

We are seeing years later that ColecoVisions were not built well to last, and get problematic long-term, which is why the forces of supply and demand dictate a bigger price tag on the fewer remaining working units. And, unfortunately, repair can be more than just a few caps to replace. As a suggestion, maybe search for a broken one that may cost next to nothing, and attempt repair? If you succeed, make a video. 😁

I was thinking about that and have been looking at ones listed for parts on eBay. I will try and get one soon.
