My top 10 Intellivision Flashback games: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fXuWY4NrgLR_jtEsi=zS11fLs5nc3eSse4

I was born in 77 so the Intellivision was initially "dad's console". He stayed up WAY to late every night playing Burgertime, Lock N Chase, and Beauty And The Beast. Once I got older I played a ton of Utopia and AD&D: Treasure Of Tarmin Hard to argue with your choices, as those are all iconic.

I like your list, and the honorable mentions. Of course, my pick would be my fave: Tron Deadly Discs. It really does "look and feel Intellivision" with its Berzerk like feel, with running men, the different enemy attacks at higher levels, proportional scoring. We even got a HUGE boss as a bonus. Other games worth mentioning are Utopia and Sea Battle. Not bangers, but definitely felt like Intellivison games with their complexity and strategy, and I would bet it would attract "the Moms and Dads" that Atari couldn't get.

Well, You got one right: NFL Football! My other top 3 were Bomb Squad, Advanced Dungeons and Dragons, and B-17 Bomber.

I can agree with your logic, but man I agree with so many of the comments about all the other iconic versions. So hard to cut this to just 4, which is probably the fun of the series.

For a serious answer to your question, my choices are: 1. Advanced Dungeons & Dragons. It's a tossup with Treasure of Tarmin, but I find this one to be a lot more fun. It reminds me of Hunt the Wumpus (a computer game from 1971) as well as Outdoor Survival (the tabletop game that inspired D&D in the first place). 2. Utopia. The father of Sim games. Two players can play either cooperatively or competitively. Feature-rich for such a small amount of ROM space. 3. Night Stalker. A little reminiscent of Berzerk/Frenzy, with your running through a maze and trying to survive against robots shooting at you. The other gameplay elements, such as running for ammo refills, the spider web, newer-generation robots, and protecting the bats to prevent more robots from spawning, makes the gameplay unique. That's saying nothing of the heartbeat sound. 4. Astrosmash. This has to make the cut for its "iconic" status. It was so popular, it even spawned a high-score competition as well as a special edition with a user-defined time limit. Nonstop action coupled with that mountain backdrop and starry sky, and that ticking sound that sped up over time, heightening the intensity of the action.

Definitely agree with Baseball, Astrosmash, and Burgertime. For some reason I always think of Blackjack...

I agreed with you on all 4 of your Colecovision titles. This time we agree on three of the four. I feel like NFL Football is a bit redundant with Major League Baseball although it definitely isn't a bad pick. My fourth, though, would have been Advanced Dungeons and Dragons.

I recall a thread on AtariAge with a question as to what three Intellivision games you would showcase to the general public at a museum, or something like that. This is a little bit derivative from your Mount Rushmore idea, but I went with the following: 1. NFL Football. Something that required 2 players and the included Playbooks for reference. 2. Melody Blaster. Very little known, but utilized the Entertainment Computer System and Music Synthesizer. Also was designed to use the Aquarius Data Recorder to load new songs on tape, but Mattel Electronics never released any expansion tapes. 3. B-17 Bomber. There also needed to be a game to utilize the IntelliVoice. Nobody can talk about this game without quoting the voice samples. For a fourth game, I would go with an indie title. In this case, something unique instead of a popular arcade port. I would go with Christmas Carol Vs. The Ghost Of Christmas Presents in this case.

As a separate comment from my serious answer, here are the runners-up, in no particular order. Advanced Dungeons & Dragons: Treasure of Tarmin. An early 3D dungeon crawl. Lots of different items and monsters. Strange elements such as the enchanted doors and teleport gates, and lots of stats. Tron Deadly Discs. Dual-stick action with never-ending waves of Sark warriors coming after you. The occasional boss fight with the giant Recognizer. Get really good, and the MCP finally dispatches guards with paralyzer sticks that end the game immediately. Lock & Chase. Few people knew that Pac-Man made it to the Intellivision, so a maze-chase game that equally few people knew was originally an arcade game was a welcome addition to the Intellivision game library. Very hard to master, but fun to keep practicing, to find out what those other 6 merchandise prizes are at the higher levels. It also spawned a high score competition, sponsored by Dr. Pepper. Burgertime. Yes, it's an arcade game. But it was so well done on the Intellivision that it became at least as popular as the original arcade port. So popular it became the Intellivision II pack-in game. Pac-Man. Those who did find out that Pac-Man existed on the Intellivision, were pleasantly surprised to find out how much closer to the arcade game it was than on the Atari 2600. It was a gamble too, since "Atarisoft" appeared on the box. Masters of the Universe: the Power of He-Man. That theme music hits you right away as soon as you flip the Power switch. Fun shootemup action, followed by the suspenseful pursuit of Skeletor and a battle against time. The year was 1983, and Cable TV was coming (and if you already had it, you might have played this game on the PlayCable). Great time to be alive. Thin Ice. Not released until INTV Corporation came onto the scene, but a fun game with a cute Penguin that could have become the Intellivision official mascot if released in 1984 as planned. Reminiscent of Qix, with music that was catchy and was composed by "The father of MIDI" himself, George "The Fat Man" Sanger. Auto Racing. Gather the whole family 'round for some great 2-player action. But how the hell do you steer the car? You're pushing down on the disc to go south, and it just spins out! CRASH! Space Armada. Because the Intellivision needed its own Space Invaders clone. Good thing there's a Practice Mode too, because before you know it, half the enemies are cloaked, and then they're firing homing shots at you. SNAFU. Another game that was big fun at parties, or with the whole family watching while 2 players battled each other. That music made it even more festive. Shark Shark. Swim, eat smaller fish to grow bigger, avoid bigger fish, keep biting that shark's tail. Friendly fire when both players are different sizes, for a nasty surprise. Thunder Castle. Again, should have been released by Mattel Electronics, but that industry crash got in the way. Fantastic graphics for the Intellivision, and easily the best soundtrack. Unique gameplay that feels like a cross between Night Stalker and Lock & Chase. Dig Dug. Another arcade port, this time defining the INTV era. Played very well, though difficult. Wait, Tron Deadly Discs is hidden in this game but with Burgertime graphics? Dang! Kool-Aid Man. Wait never mind, you said "fun". But boy, was it iconic. And what better thing for your mom to get with all those Kool-Aid points than a new Intellivision game. It's hard to forget that opening theme too, as well as the Kool-Aid Man cutscene, when you finally managed to get all the ingredients to the kitchen sink (after you read the manual and learned to press 3 at the title screen for a reasonable difficulty level).
@ And I loved the sports games. My dad, brother, and I played MLB baseball, NFL football, golf, and racing a lot. But for iconic, I’d have to say those four.

I didn't like how Intellivision had to compare and demean the 2600 in their commercials. They came across as snobby. Would've been better to simplify point out the positive in your product without mentioning the "flaws" in your competitor.

I watched the video and read every comment... how did NHL Hockey not make anyone's list... Intellivision had great games in many sports... but most of them required 2 players... baseball, football, basketball, hockey, tennis, bowling, boxing... That being said, for my top 4, I'm going NFL Football, Astrosmash MLB Baseball and NHL Hockey.

For me, the sport games don’t age well. Night stalker should be included. The night stalker is very iconic for the television system as indicated by your shirt. I definitely agree with Astrosmash. Advanced dungeons and dragons and thunder castle round out my top four iconic games. Thanks for posting enjoyed it.
