Great job explaining this. The website shows the stock and merchandise 👍 but lacks how things work and how to assemble. I am going back to the website and it will make sense now. Cheers

I've been running 8 tanks using jetlifters for a few years now. Pretty much the perfect system. But a couple of things no one told me about when using it. First, the small holes get algae and slime build up. Take a toothpick and clean them out every few months. Second, this filter is great biological and mechanical. It does absolutely no chemical filtration. You will eventually have problems with organic compound buildup and higher phosphates. Should consider getting a phosphate absorber, etc. to help with this.

Why can't you add a bag of chemical filter media behind the sponge?
@davcar8723 жыл бұрын
@@Megatog615 You can most certainly do that. I have used chemi-pure that way.

Those are very efficient filters man. I remember them back in the day as the Hamburger Filter. Lol. You can also make them as an corner filter. Thanks for sharing.

nice I like these better then the hob filters and I like the water flow

Squeeze the old filter muck onto the new sponge... Cool way to speed the cycle... 👍

Ive seen this filtration done before. Ted judy on youtube did thia in all his tanks for a long time. Its a great filter idea, tanks look awsome reed

The difference between the Hamburg Matten Filter jet lifter and the diy pvc lifter is the angle of the joint or elbow. Instead of using a standard right angle elbow, use a electrical conduit pvc pipe with a smoother more linear bend on it that provides a smoother less restrictive flow for the bubbles.

Thank You so much, I was puzzled about where the airline tube is positioned; you basically answered it with ease. Also, would you recommend this for a standard 10G quarantine tank which will be dosed with meds?

great .mega flow
@GUYANAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA10 жыл бұрын
I think the diameter and kind of fittings it's what gives you that flow...especially having that sweeping elbow instead of the 90 bend

The ideal cycle contact time for the flow of water over a biological filter is 2.5X so if it is more than this you do not get 'ideal' filtering and conversion of ammonia. The ideal cycle time for removal of solids in the water column is up to 10X. This is more important on larger tanks and would not pose a problem in this scenario with a 10 Gal. To achieve the different flow rates in a larger tank you can split the Mat filter space in two with a divider and adjust the flow rate and coarseness of the filter medium of each side thus achieving optimum bio and solids filtration.
@Rews-fish-shed10 жыл бұрын
The extra flow rate is from the bend in the pipe while the new pipe has a curve which causes less restriction and increases the flow of water
