Thank you thank you thank you! Your whole playlist is gold, but I've been foggy on the whole general journal vs general ledger thing, especially considering most acct. software doesn't even require those entries anymore, but I'd still like to understand it. Thank you so much for your time and expertise!

Is my understanding correct that you should also put '301' as the Posting Reference for the B. Jone Capital txn under the Journal (below 101)?

Also how would one differentiate the balance in the Ledgers as credit and debit? Do we need to put brackets for debit balance, for eg. for the debit cash balance?

Performed services for 4,300 on account. Received 2,500 in cash from credit clients. How do you just read that an know where they go I have no clue in where to start and how to write it in a journal. That is the problem I am having just reading the problems and knowing you use cash and other account ? and then also how they go in the journal. How do you know cash goes on top and when it doesn't? Is there hope for me.
@debdavenat12 жыл бұрын
@skbell1969 the debit entry always goes first.
@j53iliff210 жыл бұрын
Nice video, Why is the $100 for supplies considered a credit in the cast account ledger? It seems like it is being debt-ed not credited from the cash account.
@yashchandak10 жыл бұрын
i'd the same doubt but, it seems that we do almost opposite in ledger that we do in journal
@Bilbus78 жыл бұрын
you probably don't care because you posted 2 years ago, but I will answer for you. it's because you always credit an asset when it decreases, and debit an increase.
@anmarmeer21658 жыл бұрын
Hi there, How come the first 10,000 become a Debit and the other 100 become a credit on the ledgers. Thanks
@IONS-LEGACY7 жыл бұрын
if u follow the principles of double entry book keeping cash is an asset so its a debit entry, and whatever u record on debit it must also have a place on the credit side. so on the credit side the its seen as capital (the money invested).
@applepie236927 жыл бұрын
The first 10,000 is an amount placed into the business cash (+10,000) which is therefore increased with a debit. However, the 100 is taken out of the business to pay for something (-100) and is therefore on the opposite side to the increase. Debit increases assets, credit decreases assets.
@wanfight13 жыл бұрын
@cookieandlulu Text book should be banned (being silly) but u r right textbooks only make simple things look complicated.
@Voorleesmama11 жыл бұрын
In the second example (that of 5/2) you are explaining a transaction in witch " supplies" are bought with "cash". But shouldn't you specify the "cash" to lets say "accounts payable" or "capital"? Because "cash" is an account in the category "Assets" so if you use the term "Cash" the accounting equation would not really be in balance, because then you have two terms for asset and nothing to fill in for liab and equity.

@skbell1969 We must have the same teacher. I wish I had enough guts to tell her she needs to show us instead of showing us slides with no examples on it.
