Prophesies of Daniel 9, Zechariah 9, and Psalm 118 are fulfilled to perfection -- and to the DAY -- when Jesus makes His public declaration of being Messiah and King. Prior to this time he has only stated this privately with select women, or confirmed that He is the Son of God when asked.
By entering Jerusalem through the Eastern gate, riding the foal of a donkey, he was declaring Himself to be the divine king described in Zechariah 9:9 -- and everyone who was present was aware of this.
As the people quoted Psalm 118 crying out
"Hosanna"(save us now) and calling him the "Son of David", the leadership rebukes Him, afraid the people might think Jesus really IS the "Son of David".
The crowd is hoping Jesus will enter in, take over the Roman occupiers, and eventually overthrow the Romans.
Jesus enters the temple and, again, removes the money-changer violenty, declaring the Temple to be HIS house. Once cleansed, Jesus begins to heal all of the sick, lame, and disfigured--those who were supposed to be worshiping in that part of the temple.
Jesus returns to Bethany, and when he comes back to Jerusalem the next morning, curses a fig tree because it has leaves but no fruit.
This is a model for Israel, that has religious looking leaves, but did not recognize Him -- and has no fruit to show for themselves.
