Enjoyed the performance. Am reminded of the first time a hippy hillbilly tried walking into my studio and onto my sound stage barefoot. He was rather shocked and amazed when I booted him out. Happened several time through the years. Thanks for the video. Brought back some great memories.

+Matthew Schoening! The NS can be a little tough get a truly sweet sound out of but you do! Lovely. Obviously your technique has a lot with that but could you kindly let us know what type of string, bow, and basic ambience processing to give it "air"?

hes using a pedal board to loop segments he plays over again so the song is full of clips of his recorded playing as he plays I would assume
@eagle1916 жыл бұрын
That's the basis of looping...everything you hear he lays down live as you hear it. He can then store it for later use in the song or start it looping right away.
@AllenWalker10113 жыл бұрын
guys whats the name of the machine he used to playback the music ?

Too much tech bro! Just a normal cello this is too easy
@SecksyMan10 жыл бұрын
he relies on the technology too much. All the loops sounds good together but he isn't much of a cello player
@lisag602510 жыл бұрын
You have to know rhythm and harmonies and coordination to be able to the looping like he does. He has skill as a cellist in a modern way.
@johnpknuckles473910 жыл бұрын
That's a matter of opinion. You can't really compare what he does to classical cello any more than you can compare Les Claypool to classical double bass. New approaches to instruments emerge over time, and there will always be people claiming that it isn't valid.
@JoshWarnerProfile9 жыл бұрын
This cello playing just isn't as good as it should be. Sure the music sounds great and he knows how to work his setup, but he should've played a fast or complex melody over what he created. Looping is an instrument all in itself, but he should've stopped looping cello and started playing cello at some point. The NS design cello has dots marking notes and this guy heavily depends on them. He's obviously incapable of fast left hand technique or he would've shifted without looking at his hand. In other words he should've learned how to steer before he started driving.
@SecksyMan9 жыл бұрын
Josh Warner yeah, I kept waiting for him to actually play the cello. He just kept looping and the repetitiveness got pretty boring
@felixpaulii2388 жыл бұрын
Playing a fast or complex melody isn't all that is needed to be a professional cello player. I've seen, heard, and played slower melodies that wasn't all that complex, but was still a professional musical piece. He's a cello player, and a different one at that. But still a cello player. I'm still trying to figure out what you mean for him to "start playing the cello."
