Dearest Matthew, You put a smile on my face. You are a Gifted and Beautiful Young Musician, Your SMILE is CONTAGIOUS... Your parents and siblings have been BLESSED, as are YOU to have a SUPPORTIVE FAMILY...My identical twin sister and I were born decades ago premature....I read that You were Born a Little Bitty Sweet Pea of 1lb. 11oz! God Bless You and I hope I can make the trip up to Saratoga Performing Arts Center {Which I have attended for over 30 years} this June 25-26, 2022 Freihoffer Jazz Festival Weekend, for your debut concert at that Beautiful Venue. I wish you GOOD LUCK in Saratoga, and continued success...Mattheew, may you be surrounded by LOVE, GOOD HEALTH and PROSPERITY ALWAYS YOUNG BROTHER. P.S. I saw Ray Charles Live at the SPAC many years ago...I saw Dizzy Gillespie Live at Sweet Waters before he passed...I met Both Wynton Marsalis, Marcus Roberts , and many other wonderful musicians at concerts and fundraisers at Lincoln Center. Jimmy Smith and Joey Defrancesco are my favorite Hammond B Organists, along with the "5th Beatle", Billy Preston.

@@MatthewWhitakerOfficial I would Love to make it to SPAC for your debut... { Back surgery for ruptured discs L3-S1, instead of an improvement, I have more pain, standing, sitting [ SPAC is a Long Drive, LOL] } However, I Still have HOPE to make it there .... BTW, Matthew, The SPAC Security NEVER allow patrons backstage at the Main Stage Ampitheater...If they did, can you imagine how many people would want to shake your hand and THANK YOU for bringing BEAUTY into this world with Your PRESENCE...I TRULY Believe that MUSICIANS, [ As well as ARTISTS in many OTHER Disciplines such as Painting, Writing, Poetry, Sculpting, Film Industry, etc ] ENLIGHTEN and BRING JOY to US ALL; Artists such as YOURSELF are OUR EARTH ANGELS😇...Be sure to have a personal Life with FRIENDS and PEERS as well....Travelling on the Road can be Rough over long periods; Matt, You are YOUNG and must CARVE out time so that you FORMULATE RELATIONSHIPS as Best You Can with OTHERS who LOVE YOU FOR YOU, and NOT Just YOUR INCREDIBLE TALENT. {Caps are to HIGHLIGHT points, not shouting at you, LOL}. Best Regards.

Thank you for the advice. I always come out front after performing so that I can thank as many people as possible in person for coming out because they didn't have to come. They could have chosen to be somewhere else.

@@MatthewWhitakerOfficial You are very Welcome; Matthew, It might be good to keep a Journal [We Called it "Diaries", with a little lock and key, back in the day, LOL; Whilst traveling, keeping a {PRIVATE} Journal/Diary, allows you to write your thoughts, etc. as you travel; Then you can look back on those writings to "Observe Yourself" at a distance when you are in between gigs and assess how you felt, Happy, Tired, Lonely, Etc...You do NOT have to put on a "Happy Face" for YOUR Public...Fans will come because YOU are a GIFT to us and provide a RESPITE from this [OFTEN] Difficult world of Man's INHUMANITY to MAN...WARS, FAMILY /WORK Stress etc......Matthew, ALWAYS REMEMBER, Musicianship is ONLY One Aspect of who you are...No one knows you better than YOU...Take Time to RECHARGE Your Battery when you need to in order to avoid "Road Travel Burnout" 😊. Best Regards.

Pretty sure he’ll have his own signature style by the time he’s 21. Stevie Wonder sounded a lot like Ray Charles at first. But found his own sound later on.

This young brother is great and will be going to greater heights, but I wish the audience and audiences in general would not clap to keep rhythm while the player is playing- it's very distracting-let the musician keep and develop the rhythm and pace. This includes classical and jazz music, too. I don't like it when some conductors (Classical music) encourage the audience to clap along while the artist(s) is performing. When an artist comes on stage and says "Come on folks, put your hands together", I immediately suspect the artist true talent-show me what you can do...don't encourage clasping to cover up potential mistakes. Love you little Matthew, all the best!

Interesting perspective! Music for many cultural groups of people is always a call and response. The music is meant to be enjoyed and felt and acted out, not just listened to silently. Ask how many artists love when the crowd gets into it vs sits there silently :)
