Having been in the music recording business for many years I'm intimately familiar with copyright and licensing of intellectual property. That said, I found this video very interesting and informative because I have ZERO experience with licensing my photos. Thank you very much for doing and posting this video.

Mathew's channel is a gold mine. This concept was alien to me.

Great interview. Yeah this topic of licensing is a tough one. I have struggled as a new commercial photographer. I have great conversions with potential clients and as soon as "licensing" comes up they ghost me for another photographer that does not use this model. I have now lost 2 potential jobs due to this. A challenge due to digital photography, just like digital music.

Yeah, learning how to explain these things to clients can be difficult. We talk about that in the course a bit too and explain more about how to have these conversations. In the course we even have an interview I did with a client of mine who was confused about it at first so you get to hear some perspective from the other side.

Great work Matthew and Adam! This is such a tricky concept for many clients (and photographers) to try to grasp. I definitely found value with this interview and felt it was totally worth taking the time to watch the whole thing. Thanks so much!

This will sound like a spam message, but I discovered licensing about a year ago with Adam... Since then (and thanks to the course - not a paid ad!) I've licensed many photos and went after many infringers that were using my photos illegally... honestly, the course is an eye opener that should be REQUIRED to all photographers (once you know how much a photo is/can be worth, you see your photography business with a whole other eye!). Great talk Matt & Adam (PS: @58:25 LOL ... good job for slipping that in the video - it's me by the way ;) )

Yeah, I agree 100% If there was a school that every photographer who wanted to start as a paid professional would be required to attend...the subject matter of Adam's course would/should definitely be in it!

46:12 how do your clients not see this as a conflict of interest? You’re not motivating yourself to take the best shots for them, but for yourself.

I don’t think Adam ever said anything about foregoing your client and taking ‘better’ photos for 3rd parties. It’s about being mindful of additional parties that may benefit from having the photos in addition to the commissioning client. And (if it’s possible) taking the time to grab additional angles and compositions that other parties may want to license. For instance, ultra wide shots of a model home for MLS may be of no interest to an interior designer, but a tight vignette of the kitchen island could (and vice versa).
