An old professor of mine used to have a saying about planning and preparation: “The Holy Spirit can move just as freely Monday through Saturday as on Sunday.”

Thanks for this video. Very encouraging and challenging at the same time. I am a "manuscript preacher" myself and look forward to the day when I can rely on it less. I usually write anywhere between 5000-7000 words depending on the passage. I am getting more comfortable each time and I am engaging more and more with the congregation. At this time, I am preaching 1 Sunday every other month because one of our Pastor's has been sick.

Hi Matt, thanks for doing this. I am what you would call a full manuscript preacher. The reason for that is that I am ministering in the UK, and English is my second language. When I am really excited about something, I tend to get my tongue twisted, and then what happens I tend to use English words and Polish grammar, which doesn't make sense in English nor Polish, and if I have everything written word by word, I can just read from my manuscript and not lose the listeners. Would love to be one day so free with my English for those things not to happen and be able to rely a lot less on having a manuscript in front of me. I also strive towards 2500 words/3 pages, but it takes me something like 30-32 minutes to preach that. God's grace to you brother, I appreciate your work.

Good video pastor Mat . Even a guy in the pews can benefit from this . I was told once that if you wanted to learn about a topic covered in scripture. Study it as if you’re going to do a sermon on it and your pastor is going to be sitting in the front row . So this is a very beneficial for all. Besides that it shows the congregation how much work goes into just a hour on Sunday morning. Let alone other duties of a local church pastor. Blessings

Pastor Matt, would love a series on covering the reformers creeds and confessions, such as catechisms of Heidelberg or Westminster. I know this might be time consuming, but maybe you could devise something of this great material we could follow along with you. Loved your review on the R.C. SPROUL REFORMATION STUDY BIBLE and love it.

I don’t preach. But I do prepare a manuscript for a Sunday School class. One thing I like is a very wide right margin as these are handed out. It makes it easy for us to take notes during class.

I am going to try this. I usually bullet point my sermon into a basic outline and preach the points enough where I know what I am going to say. The issue is I can't preach it a couple of years later without rewriting the sermon completely.

Hey Matt! Do you include all the scripture in your manuscript if you are teaching through say 15 verses or do you truncate it? Thanks in advance for answering☺
@MatthewEverhard Жыл бұрын
No. I read it out of the Bible, but I do quote the important verses in full that I am commenting on.

Would you mind sharing a file of one of your manuscripts that we could have as a model (I have no plans to steal the sermon 😂)? Going to ask on Twitter as well. Thanks!

Are you no longer using Google Keep to store your illustrations? What's the difference between your digital miscellanies and your Google Keep?
@MatthewEverhard3 жыл бұрын
Hi! I still use Keep. The difference for me is that Keep is a temporary notepad and the Digital Miscellanies are my permanent landing pad. I move things from one to the other!

Appreciate you documenting your process. I recently had the privilege of being asked to teach the teenager's class, here's my outline: Class for the kids: Why did the man with no hands cross the road? To get to the Second Hand shop Why did the skeleton cross the road? Because it had to go to the Body Shop Why didn’t the skeleton cross the road? Because he didn’t have the guts (All KJV verses) 1 Peter 2:5-6, 9 Hebrews 9:19-20,23-24 Quick review of sacrificial and priesthood system of the Old Testament - the Jewish, physical Kingdom of Heaven Christ is THE sacrifice for sin, Our Spiritual Sacrifices are the Freewill offerings - the Spiritual Kingdom of God - the Body of Christ Title of message: Our Spiritual Sacrifices Romans 12:1 - We present ourselves as a living sacrifice The cross-references are acceptable and accept. First mention of accept is Gen. 4:7 contrasted with Gen. 4:4 First mention of acceptable is Lev. 22:20 Ephesians 5:2 - Walk in love Ephesians 5:8-10 - Walk as children of light in goodness, righteousness and truth Col. 1:10 - Have a worthy walk and relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ - Gen. 5:22-24 (Enoch walked with God. Type of the Church being Raptured); Isa. 41:8 (Abraham, friend of God - what a complement) Corollary (fear of the Lord): Pro. 8:13 and 1 Sam. 12:14-15 - When we walk with God the way we should we will love the things He loves and hate the things He hates Second cross-reference is two parts: pleasing and wellpleasing Col. 3:20 - Obey your parents which ties in with: 1 Timothy 5:4 - Caring for family Romans 15:16 - Minister the Gospel Philippians 4:18 - Giving offerings and gifts 1 Timothy 2:1-3 - Praying for ALL people and giving thanks to God Hebrews 13:15 - Praising and giving thanks to God Hebrews 13:16 - Good works and meeting people's needs 1 Peter 2:20 - Suffering unjustly - Hebrews 2:10; 5:8-9 Now, we'll come to 2 Chronicles 25:2 When we stand at the Judgement Seat of Christ, the Lord isn't really focused on what you did, or how you did it or truly even how many. What He's interested in its WHY you did it. Did you do it because you love the Lord Jesus Christ? Motive On the spot detour: Quick overview of my study on Christ understanding our sufferings with a question asked by Job: [33] Neither is there any daysman betwixt us, that might lay his hand upon us both. Job 9:33 Second detour: Questions we'll hear at the Judgement Seat of Christ - Job 26:2-4 2 Corinthians 8:12 Finally: Philippians 1:11 - Be filled with the fruits of righteousness - Our purpose is to Glorify God and offer sweet-smelling savours out of love and gratefulness "Little Is Much When God Is In It!"
