I've been turning opal inlayed metal rings on my wood lathe for about a year but have never wanted to bother with turning wooden rings because my methods would be too rough on wood and the overhead for lathe accessories that'd make it possible are a little out of my price range. Your method of coiling veneer never occurred to me and opened up so many awesome possibilities! Thanks for the awesome tutorial and ideas! The end product was absolutely stunning too!

I'm glad I helped This method is better in so many ways compared to rings from a solid block of wood. I've been making wooden rings for 3 years now but new to creating videos

@@MatthewFlowerDesign Hey! just wondering how you source your wire? I've been trying to get 0.5mm square gold wire and find it to be pretty difficult to get this smaller size. I've also looked at rolling mills but none seem to go less than 1mm. The rings look great btw!! Thanks for the video

Very cool, but I don’t know about that super glue finish; a nice oil or wax finish would look better and be safer for skin contact.
@MatthewFlowerDesign4 ай бұрын
It makes the ring long lasting, ring take a battering with daily life, a natural finish is lovely but just not practical and they wouldn't protect the inlays from tarnishing or falling out
I'm really urging fellow wood turners to stop using CA glue as a finish. It's designed as an adhesive. Start using brush-on lacquer. Four coats of lacquer, which is a finish, has the same thickness as ten coats of CA.
@MatthewFlowerDesign2 жыл бұрын
For ring making, I've only ever heard of people using either CA or resin as they are such hard hearing products I will give lacquer a go as I'm interested to see how it compares
@markustiemann6748 Жыл бұрын
I would be interested to know if there is an alternative to CA glue for gluing the rings.
