I believe your the only wood worker on KZbin that has not only given 5 really great selling items . But has gone in depth on how to make it profitable. Being honest with everyone on how to succeed is " creative" on your part to stand out from others. There are many successful youtubers in woodworking but there not willing to take time and help others with good advice from thier sucess. Thankyou for taking the time to share your insider tips as a beginner this gave me allot to think about . Looking forward to watching all your past and future videos! Thankyou again Mathew

The stuff I'm making is certainly 'outside the box' and I only got the confidence to pursue it from watching your videos. You are a massive inspiration to me, and I'm sure many others and I salute you Matthew. If my stuff sells, it sells, if not - who cares! I loved making it all anyway.....Thanks from the Pendle valley, England.

I SINCERELY appreciate how you give help, instructions, encouragement...for this city girl who NEVER touched a tool except a hammer, you have shown me SO much & allowed me to try new things. Even though I'm scared of the power tools, I have learned to be responsible & face those fears. So, from the bottom of my wood-loving heart, I thank you!

When I did my remod on my 100 year old house, I kept ever scrap of heart pine and even the lathe. I planed it all and it it up in my bathroom. Tedious but beautiful - and it belonged to the house. When I show off the house I get to tell about all the stuff we “found” and where we kept stuff and put it back. We are always carefully looking at stuff like this in business too. Your points are all spot on.

I got some fencing that was blown down on Dauphin Island, Alabama from Ivan. Bad boy! Brought it home. I used the seasons fencing and made a ice chest. Bit was awesome. Sister wanted one for her back yard. Saw a post on Pinterest (she was in Daphne, AL!) take a large putty knife, smear sheet rock mud on the boards, scrape it off. Wow! I have pics. It looks like old painted wood. Cheap, used old hardware. Mine weren’t for sale, but gifts. BUT. I know how too, and it is DIFFERENt! Love this!!!!!

Dude you nailed it. You’re so on point about being different and taking a hot concept and tweaking it to make it different. Also about presentation, I don’t know if people realize how crucial that point is. That’s the final presentation, so it’s gotta be eye popping, it’s gotta stand out and be different. Great video brotha, you know what’s up.

@@MatthewPeechWoodworking Mathew, I would highly recommend not putting your cell phone in your breast pocket or even carrying it close to your body at all. There is a very stern warning hidden in the phone which says specifically not to do this. Cell phones emit dangerously high magnetic fields which will not only disrupt your nervous system but will damage cells within a certain distance of the device. In other words, keeping it in you front breast pocket is going to F up your heart dude. If any damage has been done it will heal if you stop doing it now. If you don't you may end up with some nasty heart problems when you get older.

That fake wall idea is genius! I've been turning pens and doing scroll ornaments for the last few years, at first they didn't sell because I did as you said, just took pictures in the garage. Finally I got the idea to make a small holder for the pens then cleared off a shelf of my bookcase to put it. Now the pens have a surface that looks unique enough that people stop and look at both it and my other items. Sadly the area I live in (SE KY) the pens no longer sell for the price that makes them worth making and everyone & their mothers sell them on Esty. Mentioned in a previous comment that I was going to attempt your trellis design, now I'm thinking of also busting out a few of those concealment shelves / coat racks.

I am trying to encourage people to grow their own groceries. I build can racks, with or without doors. I want to build your planter boxes. I also have an idea for a garden unit which will hold up to 14 different plants yet be a nice "yard ornament" with a sitting bench. I have ideas for adorable chicken coops for people who can only have 3 to 6 chickens. I want to build your garden tool shed! I also want to use your garden tool shed plans and make it into a greenhouse by changing the doors and side walls to poly panels. I can even use those plans to create a potting shed. These can all be used for people who have small yards, just a patio or even just a deck. I think, rather than put up a privacy fence, someone can purchase all three of these garden tool shed ideas and create storage plus privacy. That will encourage people to want to purchase more than one! It is still far cheaper than building an actual shed. I plan to build myself one, which will be a little deeper, just to hold all my pool supplies and floaties. It thought it would be cute designed with "beach theme" items! My husband and I are preparing for him to retire. I am praying I can make enough money to cover tithe and another principle paying on our homestead (which is the only thing we still owe on). We serve a big God so if he wants to give me extra, I will except it with thankfulness!

Love you videos. Truly inspiring. I can't wait to get started. I built rolling pantry carts last summer and loved every minute of it. Decided this is something I can do and enjoy and am hoping to actually succeed. My next project is the custom cabinet for my kitchen (6 doors and a drawer) and your concealed coat rack for an anniversary present for my sister. Neither will make me anything which bugs the BF but it's good practice and looks good in my portfolio of things I can do. Keep up the good work.

I build decks and screened porches for a living. When we demo old decks I always say man if I had a shop I cld repurpose some of this material. Like 6x6 cut into 1" slices and used for wood tile floors, Im cutting up pallet wood to whitewash and use for shiplap in my laundry room. So Yea its all about thinking outside the box. I do this a lot. My partner just shakes his head LOL Edit: just remembered a demo we did where a customer had us throw away a BBQ grill. It looked fine outside just rusted out inside. I said man I could gut this and add a cooler to one side and a condiment tray on other and walla. No shop, No room, No time it went into the dumpster. Now I have time and will have a small shop soon in the future.

I started into this side-venture, still new and learning. I see many say to advertise on marketplace, which would be awesome because I really don't want the hassle of shipping either. But with staging as good as I can get, pricing at material cost plus time which is highly competitive, I still get zero bites on Marketplace. Literally not a thing. Maybe small town area? Idk, but I have to get something figured out to get things moving at least somewhat

I decided to make cutting boards as Christmas gifts this year. Messed up on my board feet calculations and ended up making 8 instead of 3. Kept 1 and sold the other 4. I was posting pics to my Instagram since the people getting the gifts were on Facebook. Had friends calling dibs on the birds before I even finished them. Money I made selling the other 4 covered the cost of a planer so I don’t have to use my friend’s anymore.

This may be a goofy question to some but, given I have spent most of my working career in sales and customer service, I know sometimes things beyond our control simply happens. Is it typical to offer warranty's, return periods, etc in this type of business or is it more of an all sales final type of thing?

A warranty for expensive things that might break under normal use, priced into the piece. Art, decor, not necessary. I might discount a piece against a larger purchase, (trade in). But you just can't let folks take things and return them dirty, or broken.

@@MatthewPeechWoodworking I've tried a lot. I can fix almost anything, I can renovate an entire house, I've built remote control model airplanes, all with success. But my woodworking projects are always reminiscent of a kindergarten art project.

I think my biggest question, that maybe too complicated to answer simply, is at what point do you have to officially declare your starting a business 😔

OK, Matthew has seen your channel and I subscribe immediately. I do a lot of woodworking. I’m disabled had multiple surgeries on my back and I’m gonna do exactly like you say because you seem like a wise man and a hard-working man and I believe everything you say you can tell you’re good people, and I would like to maybe throw some of my ideas around you to see what you think of them. I don’t mind paying you something for your time if we talk, but I would really like to speak with you and maybe you could help me get on the right track if you would like my number just let me know and if not, I understand you’re a busy man. Thank you.
