This is nearly identical to a "T" to the guitar my buddy's dad purchased for his his other son returning from the Vietnam War...........as a surprise for him.............but his son never made it home and the dad in all his grief hung the classic instrument on his son's bedroom wall. This son obviously loved music and guitar and at the time (early 70s) this was his son's dream guitar that his coalminer father saved up pennies to buy (probably $200-300 back in the day). What a sad yet moving tribute. I often thought of writing a story about this experience but Matthew here and his obvious admiration for this very classic instrument brings back positive memories to this poor father's grief. Thanks!! Jim C.

Hey Mathew, from my perspective as a non-player who just likes seeing old things taken care of and celebrated I absolutely agree with you. I said before my feelings are like yours which is respect the history of the guitar and don't necessary try to gussy it up so it looks like it did when it was brand new. Worse to me would be to modify it from the original set up with newer high performing parts instead of the parts it was built with. I also agree that saving all the original parts where practicable is the preferred process. For me there is something about the idea that your hands are touching the same guitar as the previous owner/owners that is very compelling to me. I think it honors those previous players who obviously got a lot of use out of this classic Gibson and hopefully that guitar brought a lot of pleasure to all who heard it in all its glory.
