if other planes could be referred as "she", I would prefer DC-3 as "he"... with the tail dragger that makes the cockpit pointing at the sky, complete with the thick wing, even in motionless, you can feel that he sits there majestically and spread his wings ready to fly... you know what I mean if you look at 0:46

This brought tears. As a boy I grew up in Grenada, West Indies. At that time the only large! aircraft were, DC3's & Vickers Viscounts. It was always the DC3's that my cousin & I would climb a tree to see. I know that sound so well. I left Grenada in 1960 in just such an aircraft to transfer in Barbados to my ongoing flight to the UK, via Idlewild (JFK) in a DC7C Seven Seas. I have a 5 speaker set-up & with the volume turned up that was just awesome. You must have good sound recording. Thank you so much.

Pity these are not made anymore. A relatively simple design, rugged and reliable. Easy to maintain and restore compared to modern aircraft. I think they still have their uses and just how many are still flying today is a testament to that. In context of a clever and long-lasting design that just works, two machines come into mind: UAZ 2206 (452) "bukhanka" (in production since 1965) and Lada Niva (produced since 1977).

Not to mention they’re small enough to get into the small airports, there was one at the Thomaston-Upson county airport, there’s a C-47 there now, but they still carry a good amount of passengers/cargo, and they can fly from one side of the US to the other no issues whatsoever, although you probably would have to stop along the way once for fuel.

Braathens SAFE of Norway was one of a few airlines that had more DC-4s than DC-3s. From 1947-49 they were a charter airline only. From 49-54 they flew from Norway to Hong Kong once a week, and the trip took 4 days. That was less than half of BOAC! One time they had to set in a DC-3 due to a DC-4 was AOG. On the way back between Cairo and Athens the DC-3 was flown past the DC-4 that started the journey one week later! Lol!
