Thanks for highlighting the grid.! To me, the grid *is* Bitwig, I couldn't imagine going without it. Btw,. it is absolutely possible to have different Steps devices in the grid to run for different lengths of time, that's how we've been doing polymeters. (You need to reset the phase of a Steps device at the appropriate time, so that it starts from zero again).

Not sure why there are so many negative comments here. The techniques you've shown here are really helpful, and go beyond the bitwig stepwise device. Thanks for sharing and teaching me a few new ideas I can mess about with.

Love this type of video! You should do a whole series teaching synthesis with the grid and your modular!

Also thanks for cranking this video out so quickly, I thought “I bet you could do curious things with that Stepwise, beyond what you would expect” but haven’t got an active upgrade plan… and boom, there’s your video! 😂

the first thing I did with Stepwise was throw 3 of them into a Note FX Layer, then add some Note FX to each one, and then a Humanize on the outside into a Transpose Map. Got a really groovy semi-generative bassline out of it :D
@matthsmatthsmatths24 күн бұрын
Thats a wicked idea! I should have had a play with the note FX more. Thanks for sharing.

Useful! A great use of time! The end result sounds heaps of fun. What kind of music is that? I'd like to explore making shimmering chordal stuff by tuning the note data to something nice and then modulating parameters of each row.

Nice video Matt, was getting into that. I don't have Bitwig yet but I like how everything is uniform and contained, especially when it comes to modular. Excluding the 'hands on' benefit, could you see it replacing your hardware? Cheers
@matthsmatthsmatths26 күн бұрын
Quite possibly. Im totally using this in conjunction with my modular a lot and it's becoming a large part of my setup. It has become so powerful now.

Great video! I am wondering if this sequencer can be used to trigger hardware via CV or midi. Have you tried it?
@BarryTheElephant24 күн бұрын
Yep. Easy. Needn’t even use the grid, play through HW out devices
@matthsmatthsmatths24 күн бұрын
Im sure it is possible. Just kick it out to an Expert Sleepers ES8 sound card and you are away!

What is the advantage using Stepwise to drive a Poly Grid instead of using Steps devices directly in the Poly Grid itself? IIUC, you could simply replace your Key On devices with Steps devices. Further, you wouldn't be bound to just eight lanes...

This ill designed add on for Bitwig concerns me. Designing half baked add ons in 2024 is a recipe for bleeding customers away as competitors leapfrog you within WEEKS: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hIbahH-qZtSEnrM THAT'S how you innovate.
@tinychamberz3 күн бұрын
thats not much better, also alot of missing things reading the comments.
@brianmi402 күн бұрын
@@tinychamberz Unfortunately the link I pasted is far into the demo. You have to watch from the beginning to see the innovation, such as being able to assign ANY parameter from the drums to be part of the drum sequence, as when he assigns PITCH and PANNING and manipulates it on a step by step basis. Just the "Musical Randomization" that takes into account the types of patterns that are fitting for EACH DRUM in the kit is entirely new as far as I know. Altogether, comparing the two, BIG embarrassment for Bitwig.
@tinychamberz2 күн бұрын
@brianmi40 yeah but that's not innovating, look at the electron boxes. they had this long ago. They just finally copied it

Use septic vst. Unfortunately bitwig failed to make their own step sequencer note plugin (swepwise is a note plugin not a step sequencer). Stepic VST is what they should have made not this basic junk…
