Hey people, welcome to this beginners guide to Phase Plant synth. If you are new to synthesis this is also a great "starter" clip. Enjoy! PS. Don't forget to write a question or two in the comments! 🙏

Thanks Matthias. Your video helped me get my head around the basics of Phase Plant. I just bought it to use with my soon to arrive Osmose. I was using MPE presets that were loaded with generators, fx and modulators. You've helped me break it down and can see it's pretty straightforward. Seems a lot like Pigments actually.

Wonderful, happy to share! Osmose is a wonderful instrument IMO.

@@MattiasHolmgren All thanks to you! Looking forwards to seeing where you can take my sound design. I probably learned more about grassroots synthesis in that one short video, than I have in 20 odd years of tutorials. Seriously GREAT lesson.

@PilzE. 🙏 that’s wonderful. I hope to continue the episode soon.

A useful hint: The filter cutoff is an absolute value. If you want it relative to the note, you have to modulate it with the "note" modulator (100%)
@MattiasHolmgren Жыл бұрын
Yes, that gives you a keytracking filter (fully customizable)👌

Great clear introduction video - Love PhasePlant because it just makes sense compared to many others. Look forward to a video that covers the effects side of things to look at what the "send to" options do and why have multiple lanes.

Do you have a sound design course? I looked on the store and didn't see one. I'm impressed with phase plant and will pick it up soon, but I'm more impressed with your experience with designing the sound.
@MattiasHolmgren Жыл бұрын
Hi, thanks for reaching out! 🍿I have a few more courses in the pipe. Mastering, Mixing, Sound Design. music Theory / Composition. Maybe I should prioritize a sound design course. How to create the basic patches we all need for composition: pads, leads, bass, arps / plucks etc!? What kind of sound design / patches / style you looking for? 🎉😃
@whong09 Жыл бұрын
@MattiasHolmgren please do let me know, I'd be interested in taking the mixing and sound design course def. Your style of teaching I think would be easy for me to understand. In terms of genres, well I make covers of vocaloid, porter robinson type stuff, sometimes more produced rock/jazz. I have Roland Cloud premium library and Ableton Suite and a bunch of Arturia stuff but getting sounds that I feel like I can use is the most frustrating part of production, like finding a needle in a haystack. Or like comparing dozens of say kicks or snares that basically sound the same.
@MattiasHolmgren Жыл бұрын
@whong09 i feel ya, know the feeling. It’s often easier / faster to craft your own sounds than patch browse into insanity… when you have gained some decent skills in sound design. Then you can recreate what’s in your mind. Very valuable! I’ll def let you know. Make sure to sign up on my Morningdew Media weekly newsletter here www.morningdewmedia.com

Around 15:46, besides those '+' signs, there are bunch of '=' and '*' signs here and there. Anyone knows what does those stand for?
@MattiasHolmgren3 ай бұрын
(*) Is modulating a modulator. Try adding an LFO to control another LFO via the *. You can clearly see the new LFO cable hook on to the middle of the original LFO cable. Which is visually cool too! ;) Easier to understand what's going on.
@luming74793 ай бұрын
@@MattiasHolmgren Aye! Thx for the explanation! What about those '='?

I was wondering about filter plugins which emulate some of the filters from the classic synths. For instance, it was tough to imitate some Genesis sounds until I tried using the CherryAudio Quadra. Now I can't believe how easy it is. I just use its "sine wave" and I've already got one of the sounds that they used extensively. It's obviously far from an "ideal" sine wave, but it sounds awesome! So the synths impart some character into the sound. I'm hoping someone develops custom filters with some of the characteristics of the classic synths, like maybe the famous Moog Ladder filter.
@MattiasHolmgren3 ай бұрын
It's a lovely synth too.

how to tune phaseplant to 432 hz??????
@MattiasHolmgren2 ай бұрын
Adjust course pitch or othet pitch param. Check if there is a master tuning param. Check manual 👌🥳

So you route the generators to "lanes" (effects) not to filters? However the filtering seems to be happening before "lanes" (effects) altough there is no visual indicators of this routing or did I miss something? Quite confusing...
@MattiasHolmgren Жыл бұрын
The lanes can include filters. There are grey arrow indicators to the right of the sound generators that show how the route into the next generator / filter. Its not super visible but once you see them you get the routing. I should have mentioned those more clearly in the episode. We can bring that up in the next phase plant episode 🌱
