Brilliant overview! Thanks. I agree that this isn't a "Serum killer" (Serum is distinctive and excellent enough in its own way). But I own Falcon and this might persuade me away from that synth. Falcon seems to me to have an overly abstract Progam/Part/Layer/Keymap structure and definitely a more cluttered interface compared to Phase Plant's clearer "see everything" look. If I had a wishlist, it'd be for a modelling oscillator (pluck/bell), but you can't have everything! Anyway, I think you talked me into buying this! This is really an exceptionally effective crash course!

'Seed stable and random' is how the extremely long sequence of numbers that underlies 'random' functions in computers is treated. Computers can't actually do anything randomly so to get around that problem, sequences of numbers that are so long that no human can detect any kind of pattern are used. 'Stable' just means that it's always starting from the same point in the sequence and 'random' uses another extremely long sequence of numbers to start from a different location in the original sequence.

Serum has the same abilities as far as when you were talking about FM synthesis....The power of Phase plant comes with the fact that you are not limited to 2 osc, 1 sub, 1 noise source, 1 filter, etc. Phase Plant allows you to add as many of each in which ever order you like (Up to whatever your processor can handle). A more appropriate analogy for phase plant is that it's a digital Eurorack and you can drop in as many modules as your power supply (processor) can handle.

I wish you could add an external effect or source.

One request is that you check the output volume of the synth before you start the video, the gain is a bit high so i have to turn down the video for the synth then up for your voice. Amazing tutorial though thank you!

I've been playing around with a lot of similar stuff in Bitwig using their audio rate modulators (Bitwig 2) and the new Grid (node based modular routing for sound design) in Bitwig 3. Cool stuff, and I think it's going to spread as a sound design technique now that it's becoming standard in soft synths.

is there a way where you can disable key tracking to a sample? I'm trying to make a Hardstyle kick and the Tok is changing pitch which I don't want. Is there a Way to do that. If there isn't. I'm just going to stick pitching Hardstyle Kicks with Sub Lab.
@MrReeTart3 жыл бұрын
There's a tutorial inside of PhasePlant called [Untracked Samples] That will show you how to unlock keytracking. I know I'm late but hope this helps you.

Thanks for a great tutorial. I've been using Vital which is great, but I've just bought Phase Plant too. It definitely seems a little more powerful and logical. I've found the way the association between ADSR envelopes and oscillators a little confusing in Vital.

What is with the resolution of the manual controls? For example, You can easily hear the stepping nature. It’s really obvious with the vowel filter at 42:25. So if I automated that vowel filter using the XY pad in Ableton would the transitions lack smoothness like in the video?

Great tutorial and i'm only half way through. I just wanted to comment one thing and maybe you already noticed. But do you hear how choppy the synth sounds sometimes when you adjust some parameters like the pan or the filter frequency? Around 20 min for example. Seems Like a bug? Or maybe it's just me lol.
@KermodeMusic5 жыл бұрын
I do notice that. It maaaay have been because my computer was straining by also screen capturing as I worked, though I have at times found it a little chunky sounding when I change knob positions
@joseluisfernandez34534 жыл бұрын
Great video bro! I'm just curious, at the beginning you said this synth is worse than serum in some ways, (I'm not too familiarized with serum). What is Phase Plant worse than Serum at? Looking forward to watch all of your Phaseplant tutorials man!

HAS NO MIDI LEARN FUNCTION!!! NOT FULLY AUTOMATABLE!! which is a big limitation that doesnt allow us access to ANY parameter!! just.. and after tweacking to a max of 8 Macros. 8 Macros by far not enough. We need access to ALL parameters for Midi Learn and for "Automate last tweaked parameter" Would be great!!!
