Hi Matthew, thank you for your awesome feedback! It’s a great idea to write it down and extend it. Already thought about it. There are a few other interesting pieces I worked on. Probably I should do the work for all of them. Keep doing what you are doing. Your videos are great!

I’ve been having piano lessons since September 2022 and I started Grade 1 in January and I’m halfway through the book. Learning the piano is so much fun and I enjoy watching other people show off their piano skills. Also your videos are really fun and interesting, I love your dedication on spending a lot of time making these videos. These videos are very helpful to lots of other people too that want to learn the piano and play their favourite tunes too. Piano is the best instrument for me. I loves it. Keep up with the videos man! You deserve at least 100k subscribers.

I'm playing at 3 years now, and I've passed the grade 5 abrsm exam last year, I've kind of taken a step back from the steady progression and instead practicing really difficult songs that I really like, for example Animenz's cover of Kaibutsu.

You’ve done a great job getting to grade 5, it’s good to take a break and learn other stuff though…many people go from grade 1-8 and never learn anything else so they miss out on so much of music. 😊

@@matticawood Do you wan't me to have the same layout in the text? I am indeed filming a vlog. If u only want to react to the piano, i will leave a timestamp in the description for when i start playing it. Otherwise if you are by some miracle intrested in how i feel. Make sure to watch the whole thing, or put the video itself in your description for others to watch since i will be going through my emotions and feelings before and after. Just lemme know if you wan't the same layout when i send it or if it should be different.

I like your videos, as a piano teacher as well this gives me a new eye on piano players's playing, I just was wondering from the camera angle we see your position seems too low compared to your keyboard, like it's not a 90° angle on your elbow, is there a reason for that ? thanks !
@matticawood
@matticawood 9 ай бұрын
There sure is! It’s to keep myself and the keys in the frame. If I sit higher my head will bob in and out of shot…or if the keys are lower they won’t be seen. I’ve also tried the camera higher and facing down at a steeper angle…but that also looked very strange. So, I’d prefer to have the keys at a better height but it’s a small cost to keep everything in the frame 😊
@ShigaruFR
@ShigaruFR 9 ай бұрын
@@matticawood Oh I didn't even consider that, as long as you are comfortable playing like that haha (I for sure would get tense), I think charles cornell uses a wider lens and has the camera further away from the keyboard to keep everything in frame

The one thing I notice about self taught people is that their ability to stay on tempo is often atrocious. They slow down specific parts of a piece because they can't play them fast enough and for some reason don't realise they've slowed down. And then they speed back up once they've passed that part, until the next one. It's really jarring.

Matt how is the weight fir the keys on your Yamaha P45??? I have a Clavinova which the weight of the keys is pretty heavy but very responsive and my double notes are good. With my Casio privia not so much but it's a more portable piano than my Calvinova. I'm thinking about trading in my Privia and getting a heavier weighted keyboard. Thoughts?

I have a question.. If I practice a difficult classical piece (For eg: Rachmaninoff prelude in c sharp minor) on a 61 key plastic key keyboard and play that piece efficiently without mistake.....will it be very difficult to Play that same piece on a weighted key piano if I suddenly switch to one.
@DavidishkaPiano
@DavidishkaPiano 9 ай бұрын
It will be difficult because you're not used to the piano keys being heavy so you won't be able to play really fast and smooth without tension. Once you get used to the weight of the keys it will be easy
@useless822

@@DavidishkaPiano thanks 👍
@matticawood
@matticawood 9 ай бұрын
Exactly…there also isn’t enough keys on a 61-key keyboard to play the prelude in C# minor. For the last 1/3 of the piece every chord would be either too low or too high, but the tension is the more important issue. You would also not be able to practice dynamics, sensitivity, voicing and other things that require you to have enough resistance in the key to be specific with how you play it 😊
