I was glad to see this: I first met Mattie Johnson in 1979, during a college scholarship event which hosted a talent showcase in Aiken, SC when I sang Mary Don't You Weep. I had no Idea who this woman was with such a powerful voice. Not until she walked out on stage and began to sing with me and yes I won the scholarship that night.

Just saw this video on instagram. And had to come hear it IN FULL! IM A COUNTRY BOY AT HEART HERE IN NORTH CAROLINA! And this video and sound brings back so many times Id go with my grandmother to gospel singings they would have here at the schools. Downloading this video into a mp3 !!!!!!!!

I agree!! There should be many more comments. Mattie n her group was the most Popular female group in the DC area. She sang for Bishop C.L. Long & The Scripture Church for years. As was said she died during a performance. What a way to go! R.I.P. Queen Mattie!

On of my all time favorites...Sis Mattie Johnson first came to Wilmington Delaware for my fathers group The Calvary Singers and Comcast TV Show Songs of Inspiration they soon became a Favorite of our town...these ladies knew how to bring down the house!!! These taping was done the the Comcast Station in Wilmington De...what a memory!
