Matti, thank you very much for breaking it down so well! You're absolutely right, people talk about telling a story, it usually feels so "ethereal" and as if I can't grasp it.. but you summarized it SO WELL These are my personal notes from this video: - Have 1 point / topic / journey - Think ahead and film it in a beginning/middle/end structure - Make sure you have a clear wrap/resolution - Stay present throughoug, and avoid just documenting... Thank you so much man! I'm looking forward to using these tips 💯💯💯

Excellent advice and thank you for making this video. I want to offer one piece of advice for you. Change the name of your channel to your name. Vloging is a personal connection, but when we hardly know your name it de-personalizes the experience. It becomes Peter, Casey and that guy who does the Travel Feels videos. I think you'll see your subs skyrocket because you do fantastic work, but there's a lost connection when we don't know you. Any successful video works when the main character is loved by the audience: from Friends to The Cosby Show to Casey to Peter to you. My very best to you and Merry Christmas!

Matti, I have a question. I've been recording history videos for my high school students and mostly it's just me as a talking head. I've been thinking that the vlog format could be interesting to communicate that content in a fresh way. I know the vlog format is meant to carry the content of a person's life, but I'm wondering if you think the format could sustain something as information-heavy as explanations of history or economics? I might be asking a question that requires too detailed an answer here, but I thought I'd try. I feel like vlogging is a kind of vernacular that my students would find engaging, and maybe it'd even be a refreshing departure from the average history explanation video. Thoughts?

LOL. Yeah, I was gonna ask for the story of how your letterbox matte got one pixel too small. But seriously, good stuff man!
@Meados606 жыл бұрын
I was going to write the same thing. So It's basically black bars, that you put on top to fake the ratio...if you do so, you really need to watch, that you don't scale them down and or move them by accident, so the video underneath doesn't come through (as shown above :D)... @travelfeels why do you use bars, instead of cropping the scenes? =)

REQUEST/QUESTION: Matti, can you talk about sorting out flickering led lights in videos? It can be tricky if you're trying to use the 180 rule sometimes. In europe we've got 50hz electricity (the states is 60 hz), so shooting with a shutter speed of 50 will stop led light flickering and banding. But If I want to shoot at 60 frames per second to do some slow-mo in post, then the shutter speed needs to be 120, which sucks for flickering led lights here. Do you use the "Flicker Free" Plugin from Digital Anarchy, use duplicate clips in Premiere Pro (second one at 50% opacity), or something else? Cheers Matti!!

I have no idea what the story of this video was. The story seemed to be about how to repeat vague ideas about how to tell a story (without actually saying or doing much of anything.) over and over until you hit 10 mins. Was this supposed to be an example of what not to do? I'm confused.

So storytelling in vlog is based on the three part essay's structure (intro, dev, conclusion/making a point) instead of novel's narratology (stable beginning, complication, stable ending)? Btw im translating these concepts from french and I don't know their english equivalent. Thanks!
