I said it once and I will say it again: BEFORE there was Little Richard, Prince, Michael Jackson, Morris Day, Bruno Mars and others......there was Cab Calloway. Just like Muhammad Ali, he was and will always be the greatest of all time. #legend NOW HEP HEP!

Right on. Complete entertainer is great description of Cab Calloway. Makes one wonder what happened; not only music is lost, but style.

Did anyone ever hear that there was a knife fight between him and Dizzy Gillespie, with Calloway getting stabbed?
@Melody_Mike.4460 Жыл бұрын
My brains a bit foggy on this one. But I think cab was tryna talk Gillespie out of drinking himself to death or something along the lines of that. Anyway cab did get stabbed..... i think.
@Melody_Mike.4460 Жыл бұрын
Nevermind lol..... I was thinking of someone else. Maybe Charlie Parker. Anyway, cab was stabbed because he pissed dizzy off after falsely accusing him of throwing a spitball at him. They argued left and right about whether or not dizzy actually threw the spitball. After exchanging their thoughts on who was Lying, cab struck dizzy and as a result dizzy slashed cab in the thigh and wrist. He then had to pack his horn and leave.

could someone hep me? what does "put it right on the [lehi]" mean?
@stephenmuth14257 жыл бұрын
Not sure, but "Lehigh" is a river valley west of NYC. It was the name of the main railroad line linking NYC along the Lehigh river in Pennsylvania with upstate NY. (Cab was born in Rochester, close to the north part of the line, which ended in Buffalo). "You put it right or wrong on the Lehigh" could be Calloway riffing on the passenger service, which started up post WW II. The Black Diamond was for a while the classiest service. I imagine a lot of hayseed G.I.s from upstate found that to be a good way to get to the big city (esp. Harlem), where the cats were hep to the jive. I'd be interested to know for sure, though. Note the surge in the 40s. The interstates killed it shortly after. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lehigh_Valley_Railroad

If this song is covered by a white singer, it will be defined as Rock 'n' Roll.
@Voiciunebattledogesse5 жыл бұрын
Louis Athanasius Lee Joe Jackson had a go at it back in the 80s, quite well done in my opinion. The song (and the album it’s on) has a more modern rock mood to it, as you predict.
@jourwalis-88753 жыл бұрын
Why a silent version of the same song? Totally unneccesary and ridicoulous!
