Matt says this beautiful Vibanet make’s him bring the Funk out, whereas I think that it’s Matt who brings the Funk in, whatever instrument he happens to play!

Someting about the marriage of the clav's sound and that action!! Even the best sampled clav sound on any other keyboard just doesn't cut it. The Clavinet's sound require's that light responsive action. Pure funk. Great hearing you bring it all to life.

I really love the sound variation you can get from this kind of instrument. It's got more soul than soul, it's ridiculous. Of course synths can 'do more' but like a guitar or saxophone or any number of acoustic/electro-acoustic instruments there's just a magic behind actual physical objects creating the sounds.

Love your clav playing! Super inspirational (and simultaneously demoralizing!?). Hopefully one day I'll get half way as good as you. I don't have a clav, but I do have Soniccouture's awesome clav VST, which I prefer over the Scarbee one I had used before. Anyone who doesn't have the bucks or the space for a real clav, I encourage ya to check out the soniccouture.

The thing about a clav that people who haven't played one don't realize is the feel. You won't get that on a Nord or on a non-Pratt-Read keybed. The Clavinet key travel is short, followed by the rubber plunger which hammers the string. This creates a feeling that makes bouncy, staccato lines really fun. It IS a funk machine. The question is: What amp do you run it through?
@MattJohnsonJamiroquai4 жыл бұрын
I wasn't using an amp in this case, just direct in via a compressor
