I started with Yamahas and Honda’s. Found my way to the Road king classic in 2007 and the Road Glide Special in 2015. So after riding touring bikes for 11 years I saw this crazy looking Mad Max meets Robo Cop 2018 Fat Bob. I wanted something more city friendly for my 55 mile (each way) daily commute here in Phoenix. I can honestly say I have never thrown a leg over a bike I loved more to ride! I am almost 50 so no spring chicken...but not the old guard either. The old guard would not even sit on this bike, and that’s OK with me. I can tell you that not only is it the best bike I have ever ridden in my 30 years of riding. But it made me remember how fun it is to ride a bike that is not a bagger. Beggars have their place and if you’re taking long rides there’s nothing better. But I’ve purchased the accessories to allow me to take long rides on this bike and it does just fine. But riding around town and when you want to have fun ...there is no comparison. The brakes and suspension set this bike apart and it is a absolute blast. If you’re skeptical of this bike I suggest at least taking it for a test ride and see for yourself. You might just be very surprised on how much it grows on you after you actually ride it. This is absolutely my favorite bike period and I am very happy that Harley Davidson is opening the door, their minds, and creativity to allow for new creations such as this. Thank you Harley Davidson!!!!

1st M8 powered bike I rode and I rode it on a mix of city, highway and very curvy roads. The 114M8 engine is very impressive coming off a TC 103 and this bike handed so well compared to my DYNA. If the majority of my riding wasn’t long distance I’d buy one of these.😎

reading this makes me want to cry cause i dont want to take on the debt, but i want it so bad. ive been looking and looking and looking and i always end up back at the fat bob. i rode a wr250x last year for 3 months and didnt like it on the highway so i got rid of it. this off season i've been looking for the perfect and long story short i just cant get the fat bob out of my head. it is an expensive bike but as a long term investment that i can put money into it in parts and not worry about having to sell it and lose money on the parts, this bike makes the most sense to me. just going to have to save some more to put down a big down payment. and i'll be buying used because almost 20k on a bike i could never do, used they're around 11-13k which i can manage

@cameronboswell7888
@cameronboswell7888 5 жыл бұрын
@@MultipleInterface No problem! I'm 5' 11" at about 200 lbs. My legs are long and they don't rest above the tank like they did on the Street Bob. Quite comfortable honestly. The ride feel is definitely sitting "in" the bike rather than "on" the bike. I actually enjoyed the stock seat up until around 5K miles and replaced it with the Saddlemen Step-Up with diamond stitching. Well worth the price after the break-in period. I needed the dramatic step in the seat to keep me planted from all the torque of my Stage 3! Other things that come to mind are the foot pegs. While people have said the Fat Bob's small pegs are for cornering, they aren't the best for comfort. I'm used to dirt bike pegs gripping your boots and not searching for grip on stock Harley Davidson's pegs. Simple fix - will replace them with those Dominion Rider Footpegs or the Thrasher Supply pegs soon. More modifications...coming from dirt bikes, I like to have my suspension dialed in. The Fat Bob's suspension is the best stock suspension in the current line up and it initially attracted me to the bike. For me, it's quite frustrating to bottom out running over potholes here in Chicago and dive so much under braking. The preload on the stock monoshock is nice but leaves me wanting more adjustment. For someone who hasn't felt compliant and high quality suspension wouldn't complain most likely. I have already bought the Ohlins Fork Cartridges and Monoshock just need to install them. My front rotors are noticeably warped with my aggressive riding so I will go with Lyndall rotors and pads soon. Lastly, some Michelin Scorcher 32s with glossy black and white branded tire stickers. Probably more than you asked for but I hope this helps!

Another great vid Matt! If I hadn't gotten the deal I got on my SGS for bike week this year I might have ended up on a fat Bob. Such an aggressive bike with so much customization options, especially with the club style you West coast guys are pioneering.

I just bought the '19 Iron 1200 but sat on a bunch of different HDs at the dealer; the fatbob was one of my favorite models. It was super comfortable and the riding triangle just agreed with me. I really dig the look of it too. I can see picking one up in the future. The Sportglide surprised me too...seems like a great package.

Been on my Fat Bob a year now and I wouldn't trade it for anything. For those of you that haven't spent any time on a cruiser, this bike will serve you well on 12 hour rides just fine. I have the rack and tall sissy on mine and can carry a weeks worth of supplies and all my camera gear. More if a use a backpack. The Fat Bob just feels like your riding on a cloud with the power of a jet beneath you. The hardest part about riding it is staying within the limits of the law. And I am an old fart :

Just traded my 883 for a fat bob 114 , rode it home this afternoon . What an awesome bike. I only took my bike test October last year so very much a novice. Went with a sportster for my first bike as it seamed a safer option for a newbie . The fat bob is not anywhere near to unmanageable as I feared it would be when I opted for a sportster . I still lack a bit of higher speed corner confidence but the fat bob has improved that 100% on a short 37 mile ride home from the dealer . Its just so planted and safe feeling. Apart from pushing it backwards into my garage which is harder than a sportster actual riding is sooo much better . Its a beast but it feels so safe and easy to ride. And the head light that looks like a cylon`s eye is awesome too . Wish Id just jumped straight into the fat bob from the start . Im nowhere near going to find its limits for a while but I`m reaching higher limits immediately just because of the bike .

It doesn't matter if you are young or old, male or female, like one type of mc over another, just go test ride one today especially with the 114. This is one FUN bike to ride!!!! You have the torque, it is fast, it is comfortable, it is nimble, brakes very well, it will put a smile on your face. I am older and own a 2017 Street Glide Special, I plan to keep it for long rides and touring then after its paid for looking at getting a Fat Bob for all around fun riding. I would do a Stage II with a high performance cam. Stage 3 or 4 would be too much for me. There are motorcycles out there that are just FUN to ride (forget about name, brand, style, etc) and this is one of them.

Mark Schroeder yes you do!!! I’m 6’2” and I listened to all the whiners about this bike and the street bob. They’re all whiners. I went and checked them both out yesterday but it’s nothing a forward control can’t fix if you HAVE to change it, otherwise I felt fine. I remember thinking, “people just bitch incessantly now about nothing”. The seats are even fine. Yeah, there’s probably better but don’t be a pussy you know. I thought they were MORE than fine! Go sit on one at the least. Be prepared to need someone to come get the car though.

Great vids! Been strongly considering getting a Sport Glide and actually rode my first Harleys this weekend at a demo day and loved it. What I would actually love to see is a review comparing a Harley to a different type of motorcycle. I'm currently on a Triumph Sprint GT, and would like to know how touring on a Heritage or Sport Glide would compare to my Sports Tourer, for example loading capacity, cruising speed, economy, keeping up with the guys on their GS's and Tigers through the mountains, etc. I get it's comparing apples to tequila but the reality is not everyone rides the same brand yet we all ride together. Maybe make something happen?

Wobbly as hell at 110mph ... Planted as f 20-60 weaving and sliding feeling like it’s safe, fast and ultra smooth roller coaster. The fat tires makes you feel smart when tackling pot holes which are everywhere in SF / Bay Area high traffic areas... I think some people are setting them up for brief weekend touring jaunts and then breaking it down for quick daily commutes and daring sports ridding with lots of chill cruising. The bike looks sooo substantial and I always get both complements and player hate looks every time I’m out and I don’t even have a upgraded pipe yet... oh... the jealous eyes will increase with pipe, so too the love. I came off of Bmw sport touring bikes (2012, f800st and 2000, 1100rs) and prior I had 2007 Kawasaki 600RR... even more prior but serious time was spent 3-5X a week on race courses with Jet Skis for a couple years... My point is the second you want to act the fool on this bike it weaves so fast that you just think it and it just snakes & goes there’s. With after market wheels, and a stage 2 the speed will truly sport bike snap, but from daily speeds. I like cruising allot, but as Matt said it’s way more a sports cruiser. Chill for some miles and then wind it up... kinda hooligan style makes the bike happiest. Very much a adult kids bike, absolutely fun. Ive scene quite a few people tour them up style / function wise with the mustache bars, wind screens, bags and sissy bars... smaller bar bags and nook like bags... and the bike then looks like a mean 🐴 😡... the kind that says... fuck with me and I’ll kick you, other wise load me nice and let’s be on our way. So I think it’s a truly versatile ride. At 80 for a hour going straight though I am not happy. I want taller bars, and the ability to kick out my legs... other wise I want to speed but the bike does not like high speeds, wobbly due to head angle and wind on your jacket can give the bike additional ammo to wobble. I ride in dense traffic and twisties... but miss the relaxed free way.... does have the relaxed around city and cruise vibe, roll the strip vibe, feels good in a parking lot (some bike don’t), easy to park and move about/reverse... I ride it off curbs, slowly but also pop up some carefully... as to park sometimes... it’s do able on this bike without a problem... just don’t sit on it off of some curbs and go slow or it will scrap a “I’m really stupid” sound 😱🤗😂 So I think the tour upgrades allow the bike to flex out where as if you go ?Street Glide? You would never slim it down for small runs nor dense traffic / quick events even though it tours nicer it won’t be a lively twist machine nor traffic weasel without excessive inputs, the FatBob can make a Sidewinder 🐍 say DAMN!

Hey Matt....always love your videos but interesting you often refer to the Street Bob as a beginners bike. I have been riding more than 40yrs, used to race road and motocross and ride a BMW S1000RR everyday. I own a 2017 Low Rider S and basically I am not a slow rider and I really like the new Street Bob because it’s nice and light and nimble....I am considering selling my FXDLS and going with a stage 2 FXBB. I just wish the tank was a bit bigger...

great vid mate but still loving my 2017 DYNA fat bob lol just one question not about the fat bob if that's cool!!! why didn't Harley bring out a 115 anniversary road king? of all the Harleys in the line up!!!! do you have any ideas why this is the case mate???????
@MattLaidlaw
@MattLaidlaw 5 жыл бұрын
Good question. I don’t know for sure. My guess would be that they had to be selective about which bikes they offered in the anniversary edition. They can’t offer an anniversary edition in every model. I feel like they picked some of the most popular models to offer in an anniversary edition. The road king is popular but they did a Street Glide, which is way more popular.

Hey Matt love your reviews. How about some other angles of the bike on the road looking onto the bike other than from your helmet cam. Its good to see someone riding the bike to see the ergonomics and fit. continually seeing the handlebars doesn't give a good perspective of the bike on the road

I like the bronze pipes too, but why do they sound so muted? The beginning of the video sounds like a Gold Wing. H-D has done a good job recently with stock exhaust sound. This one doesn't sound nearly as good as a lot of your other 2019 model reviews.

This model is somewhat unique as the catalytic converter is in theheadline, makes it a bit quieter than the others in my opinion. One advantage is this is that you are still emissions (and warranty) compliant with less expensive slipons.

Can you please do a night ride on a Fat Bob? I have looked since 2017 when the 2018 model year rolled out, and haven't been able to find one. I would very much appreciate it. I am very curious about that headlight performs on high and low beam.

GoPro cameras are terrible in low light. It’s hard to give an accurate image and video of how well a light performs at night.

Love your videos man!! I’m stuck between a Softail slim S and a deluxe. What are your thoughts??
@mickeygaines007
@mickeygaines007 5 жыл бұрын
Nate Wyatt I know you didn’t ask me but on that I think it all boils down to the look you want. Both bikes are made for about the same type of riding style and type of riding. The Slim has more of a “tough” muscle look. The Deluxe is a bike I could see Al Capone on. Specs and performance are about the same. Boils down to what look you are going for I think! Both are mainly for urban and day cruising, they can do long trips but there are better bikes for that.
