On the open roads of the northern states , MT, ND, SD lots of space to do well over 107mph. now I am looking for the tuner to get rid of the limiter. Keep us posted Matt, only another few months and my warranty will be done. I'll be in the market !

It`s not a marginal performance increase from HD stuff to aftermarket. In some cases it`s 20% or better. If keeping warranty is important than by all means use HD parts, but if you want performance per dollar go aftermarket. Fuel Moto is a very good example of quality, reliabilty and performance .

@matt Fantastic review as always! You are the best! By looking at the numbers graph, I see that having the stage 4 kit wud actually mean that you lose the horsepower and more importantly the torque, until you reach 4k rpm, only after which both Hp and torque increase. The stock Hp and touque numbers are higher than the stage 4 kit numbers until 4k rpm. Correct me if my understanding is wrong. I pressume usually 60-70%(or even more) of riding would typically be under 4k rpm. So how far is having this kit advantageous?! Is it worth it...

Good video as usual Matt. Weren't the guts of that hand built CVO 117 very very close to what that chap just purchased. The compression , inches, 64mm throttle body, CVO low restriction mufflers ? I had Stage III (107 to 114) installed on my 2018 FXLR. I believe that the cons of fitting such upgrades should also be mentioned for full disclosure (perhaps there are none for touring models??). While the increased power and torque on a relatively lower weight HD is awesome and I love it, there are some downsides. First , the high capacity clutch disks on a cabled (archaic) clutch mechanism makes pulling the clutch lever in really really really heavy and riding in city traffic for some time is a choir and not pleasant for one's left hand. Also, the SE chrome mufflers are incompatible with the upgrade because they can't take the heat and yellow -which is not a good look. To mitigate these issues, I installed after market 'adjustable' gear leaver (which meant I also changed to an 'adjustable' brake lever so that I had matching levers) and installed heat shields to cover the discoloured SE mufflers - which really detracts from showing off the otherwise nice looking slip-ons.
@MattLaidlaw6 жыл бұрын
Hmm. I know they install a heavier clutch spring but I haven’t had people complain about it. The SE pipes should not discolor. Did a Harley dealer install the kit? Is it tuned properly?
@nevillegreg16 жыл бұрын
@@MattLaidlaw . Stage III installed by HD dealer. Tuned by same HD dealer using SE tuner standard programs. I subsequently had the bike Dynotuned by the HD by which time they had approval to replace the discolored SE slip-ons under warranty. However, the replaced mufflers also went yellow (the yellowing occurs near where they connect to the headers).

The problem with the stage 4 kits are the inability to use the power they produce in sixth gear due to the speed limiter. My '18 Street Glide hits the speed limiter before it red lines in 5th gear! That leaves a hole other gear that you can't even get into the powerband in. Question: do you know of any work-around to shut off the speed limiter. I can live with the rev-limiter but the speed limiter kind of defeats the purpose. Kind of bummed that Harley now wants to regulate how fast I want to go. I know there is an argument to be made why anyone would want to ride faster than the speed limiter allows but that should be my decision not Harley's...unless there is some design flaw they're not wanting to disclose at the higher speeds? I have heard nothing of a DOT regulation requiring speed limiters is there? Love the bike, love the power of the Stage lV just wish I could utilize it's full potential...just sayin'

I'm not Matt, but I can answer that question. Stage 3 feels much much faster, because it is much faster than a stock 114. The stage 3 actually feels faster than the stage 4 until about 4k rpm. If you are a stop light to stop light guy, the stage 3 is the best kit to get.

Damn nice bike! What is short shifting?
@TH3G0ODGUY6 жыл бұрын
shifting before redline when riding quickly. With many vehicles you want to shift at or just before redline for maximum performance, matt was shifting about 1000 rpm before that. In some cars/bikes short shifting can be faster, its often the case when something is tuned for low end power that they die off in the upper RPM, so short shifting can be a good idea sometimes.
