The "Softail Baggers" Shootout. Get a detailed comparison of Harley-Davidson's touring-minded motorcycles outside of the touring chassis. The Sport Glide delivers more of a modern "Sporty" appeal while the Heritage resembles more of a nostalgic style cruiser that favors the open road. Which of these are best suited for your riding needs? Should you choose one of these "bagged softails" over a touring chassis bike like a Road King or a Street Glide? These questions and topics answered in this video.

I've been in love with the Sport Glide since it debuted. Really like that they're available with painted bags now. I take exception that a bike isn't as good just because it doesn't have the same cookie cutter Dynabro FXR fairing as every other bike on the road. It doesn't need to go on everything with two wheels.

I'm absolutely enthralled by the versatility of the sport glide. Yeah, it's not the best wind protection, but if you do a little light touring and mostly bopping around town you can't beat it.

I rented the heritage 2021 for a day when visiting my daughter in Washington and loved it! My first time on a Harley with a 6 speed doing 95 miles an hour with low revs and purring like a kitten was fantastic! As an over taxed Canadian I’ll be saving up for this machine and hope to purchase one in the next 2 years and do a US cruise to Texas

Me too, I'd know exactly what bike to get. The sport glide is really the only bike that I'm really liking, just not interested in anything smaller then a 114. I know you can get big bore kits and such, but that adds a lot more money to an already expensive bike.

More emphasis on SPORTglide, so a stage 3 119 drag strip/street burner package with slippery-er/smaller fairing, go faster & stop faster bits, aggressive seating geometry(no need for the g-pa recliner on a go fast scooter) all at the same price point as it is now, and I'm in...just not the wifey...yet...hopefully...she says "NO"... I'll work on it.

I had a '19, at 6'2" it fit great, could use a taller windshield, but that's the price I pay for being taller than engineers design bikes for. Guess I'm the dad in this scenario :) Wife has a bad back and can't take the straight up posture. Had to get a different two up bike. She rides her sport bike with no issues..so we went the sport tourer route. Looking at a slim or the sport glide..but there's quite a bit of price difference.

Great job guy's, I love these comparison videos and the fact you two are honest about the bikes shortcomings. The Heritage is the biggest unsung hero bike and has slowly grown on me as I get older. I feel like it's never in the spotlight at any new release party and never at the bottom of any conversation, just even keel but shows up every year and never disappoints. That FXRT or Sport Glide Touring was slick, a little too loud for my taste but still gorgeous.

I went in to buy a Sport Glide and walked out with a Heritage (a bike I never thought I liked), so I enjoyed this. The biggest one for me is I thought the bars (I’m 6’3”....not as tall as Matt, but still tall lol) were terrible. After riding it, I thought it was a blast but just didn’t feel totally right on it. I then sat on and tried a Heritage and I felt right at home. It also solved the biggest issue I had with my old bike (Bonneville) which was luggage (you touched on) and comfort. Thanks for this! I enjoyed tremendously and kept me happy about my decision.

I haven't missed it. I rode a Heritage with the 114 and didn't think it was all that usable without a seat upgrade. I can dial in as much speed as I want in a short amount of time. If speed was really that important, there are a lot of cheaper, faster options than a Harley with a 114. That said, the upcoming H-D 1250 custom that will replace the Sporty could be intriguing.

As an owner of a 2018 FLHC with stage2, the ride and cruise control was my deciding factors. At 5'9" and 190, it felt like I was more "in the bike" on the heritage vice ontop with the sport glide. Sportglide is a fun, stripped down around towner where I can do that and 300+ miles no issue with the FLHC. Both are cool in their own ways. I use both my 18 FLHC or 17 FLHXS as daily drivers and glad I went that route. Great video gents, keep it up!!

The Sport Glide is the best in my opinion . A little of everything. Just put the 117 in it and call it a day . But people remember its a cruiser if your looking for top end speed go for a sport tourer . Yes you will have to go leave the Harley family unfortunately till they get the balls to create a new motor design to achieve the 150 to 180 top end for those who want that kind of riding. Besides that wishing all a safe on two's riding season.....

Great video. Funny, it was these two bikes I compared when I bought my Harley in 2018. It was the Sport Glide which brought me into the showroom, but after riding both back to back I walked out purchasing the Heritage 114. Ultimately I preferred the greater power, and I felt the Heritage was a more comfortable bike. The floorboards, riding position and and windscreen were just such a better experience. I still think the Sport Glide looks better though. Three years later I’m about to trade in my Heritage for a CVO. Your videos have helped along the way. Thanks.

I have an 18 Heritage 114 and I love it. I looked at the Sport Glide and the Road King also. For me I like the extra torque of the 114, but would have been OK with the 107. I like that the Heritage as 100 pounds less than the bagger. A lot of time I ride without the bags and windshield. Also I only have a passenger for maybe 1/2 an hour each year. I am not a fan of spoke wheels because I don't like the care to keep clean and having tubes, but I also am not a fan of the Sport Glide wheels although I do like that they are cast. I love the footboards on the Heritage. I used to have a Sportster and the one thing I hated the most was that you couldn't move your feet around on it. With the footboards I can move them forward or back to change my foot position and eliminate cramping on a longer ride. I am 225 pounds and 6 foot tall and it fits me well. I also love the extra lights on the Heritage. Since I am usually alone I installed a solo seat with a removeable passenger pillion. I also like the bars on the Heritage better as they put my hands higher and I am not as folded up as on the Sport Glide. I think any bike that has throttle by wire should automatically come with cruise. The brakes have been great for me. I have ABS and have never needed to brake hard enough to kick it in. Great video as usual Matt. Very thorough look at these two bikes.
@GIGABACHI
@GIGABACHI Жыл бұрын
About not having used the ABS yet: Find yourself an empty road, space, lot, w/e. And try to activate the ABS. It's good to keep it busy from time to time. The thing it's full of valves, brake fluid, passages, electronics, et al that need to be "exercised" otherwise it may go bad on it's own and fail you when you need it the most. Happy motoring. 👌🙂

Hey Matt, thanks for the video! I love love my 2020 Sport Glide. I shopped it against the Street Bob, because I had an old Dyna Street Bob, 2012. That thing with the 114 is a rocket, and I was tempted, but no room for gear, and I'm not a fan of laced wheels. I've had bad luck with them. I really like the Sport Glide wheels. I did add an aftermarket windshield, to bring it above the 10" riser and T bars I added. Definitely head down south for my next bike!

This commentary warms my heart. To hear correct, practical information on a motorcycle video is so rare. Low maintenance is something y'all should really push more. I change the oil every 5k and the other 2 holes every 10k just to make it easy to remember. That's it. My last rear tire lasted 13k. For someone who rides a lot, these M8s can't be beat! I completely agree with the double disc heat dissipation, but on a bike called the "Sport" glide, it should look sporty and get the doubles. It should also get the taller rear shock. Love the painted bags. HD's about a decent color away from selling me one of those too...

I am in this exact predicament right now! It's going to be one hell of a tough decision as I really found both to be perfect for my needs. Motor size is no issue, as I have kinda grown out of needing speed to get a rush when riding. As I'm in my sixties, I prefer the simplistic design and nature of both bikes as I enjoy the scenery and my surrounds instead of being distracted by all the new tech available on those bloody big screens. Thanks to both of you for giving me some valuable information that can assist me in making a final decision. It's still clear as mud!Lol. Cheers fella's.

I chose the 2020 Heritage 114 because I like the windshield, Floorboards and the bars better. Other than adding a sissy bar and luggage rack I haven't changed anything. It's very comfortable on long rides and handles the twisties very well!

is it true that on highways the heritage is not as comfortable as the RK? I hear it has better control and agility but on higher speed you feel the vibration which can be uncomfortable for some.

@@ohherewegoagain no it's about the same. It does feel heavy bumps more but not much. I've ridin in heavy winds and not had any problems. I just like the handling better and that its much easier to maneuver at slow speeds.

When I got the FatBoy, I ordered the Bags/Windshiel Package and was completly surprise of the finish of the H-D bags. Even the Dealer was sorry for me and gave me back the money no questions asked. I kept the excellent Windshield. So sometime not everything is perfect, always check the product.

Hi, I watched your video a few weeks ago and thought : well, the Heritage is well fitted to my size (5'9") but I almost preferred the look of the Sport Glide. I had the opportunity to make a small test ride of the Sport Glide and it confirmed what I thought : I'm too small for that bike... arms and legs are stretched in an uncomfortable way... When the moment arrived the purchase a new bike, the choice of the Heritage was obvious... I'm from Switzerland and I like your videos very much, they are helpful and instructive. Keep going that way. Cheers from "Lake Geneva" shoreline.

I purchased the 2020 Heritage 114 last year, it was just about the only softail in the dealership. Lucky for me, 20 or 800 miles in a day it handles well and is comfortable. Had owned 2 Dynas before and there is no comparison for me.

I’ve owned both bikes and am currently riding the heritage. Better for the two up riding , larger motor , stock rider triangle, better for me (5’10). Miss the sport glide bags (heritage bags leak) and the inverted front end. Both are great bikes but a long ride on the sport glide made me realize I either needed to spend a lot of money to get the comfort I was looking for or I needed to consider another bike. Glad I did love my Heritage!

So the Heritage bags are not made out of weather proofed leather? What type of rain makes them leak? Like a Summer down-pour will make the contents wet?
@davidoakley9387
@davidoakley9387 8 ай бұрын
@@adriamillasluque it’s not the bags themselves it’s the vertically mounted latch / lock. Water pools on the top then leaks down into the bag. I’ve now upgraded to a road king and honestly should have done that before the Heritage. Touring frame actually out handles the new softail frame stock for stock imo.

Great review guys thanks for that. Personnally I owned a Hertitage 114 and now just bought a sport glide in snake venom. Like both of them, altough, living close to the alps in Lyon, France, I do enjoy more riding the FLSB. I would like to put on a FXRT fairing, actually looking to find one but not sure how I can get one painted in snake venom. If you have any tips please let me know. By the way, I really enjoy your reviews Matt, even dropped by two years ago when I was travelling to LA and actually have a Laidlaw patch on my jacket ;)

Great video, men. Out of the M8 bikes, I've owned a Heritage, RoadGlide special, FatBoy, and now a FatBob. Absolutely 100% everything you have covered on this video is perfectly true. I've ridden the SportGlide a couple of times and I almost bought one. I went the FatBob route because of the "personality" it has. However, since I do a lot of kms a month (about at least 1,500) I do miss the Heritage and the RoadGlide, but since I am short (about 5,4) and I have to do some country roads (not paved), the Heritage is more for me because it is "easier to handle" without being afraid of falling when at slow speeds. I want to have it with me again, hopefully with the capacity of SportGlide bags :)

Another great comparison review! As much the Heritage is sort of the "Jack of all trades" it is really still underappreciated as you both pointed out. I think if Harley can just offer an optional hard bags, and perhaps optional cast wheels, it can be my next Harley but as Nick pointed out, the wrap leather looking bags does not cut it for me either...but man, the rear mono shock with 4.5" of travel will beat the touring line any day in riding comfort...In the mean time, I am still attracted to the touring line, especially the '21 Road Glide Special in Billiard Teal, change the rear suspension to a Legends REVO-A and its a game changer...

Things I like about the Sport Glide compared to a Low Rider ST... Forward foot pegs, the tail light assembly and license plate doesn't stick up like on a Low Rider S, and having cast wheels means tubeless tires, and if you run over a nail, just plug patch it and add air, and you're rolling again, no taking the wheel off to fix a flat. That's why I bought a used 2018 Twisted Cherry Red Sport Glide. Add a Saddlemen seat, a Harley top box, extend the fairing glass upwards for your height, and HD risers 4" up and 1.5" back, and you're good to go. Get some Saddlemen luggage to strap to a sissy bar, and you can really increase your amount of luggage you can carry. Enough for a Sturgis trip if you spend the night lodged. I mainly ride from the San Fernando Valley to canyon roads near by. Mulholland, Bouquet, Topanga, Piuma, Malibu Seafood, Neptunes Net, the Rock store on weekends. Probably when it warms up, Kernville via 178, Nine mile Canyon to Kennedy Meadows west of Piersonville, CA, maybe one day up to South Lake out of Bishop. It's a long weekend bike, best if you get a room, nightly, travelling light, not so much for camping.

Really good comparison discussion - appreciate your vids actually give personal opinions (good & bad) and not just "marketing" views on the bikes you compare. The Goldilocks comment about the Heritage struck a cord. I'm 5'10" & 25k on a lighter weight cruiser I will replace (solo ride only). I tend to gravitate more to the Sport Glide style, painted bags & front suspension. But for what I really expect from the cruiser bike in garage (longer trips & my chillin' mindset rides), the Heritage may be a better allrounder. Also considering Road King. I sat on a Heritage & Road King last weekend at the nearby GA dealership and was surprised at how much more bulky the RK looked & felt. The Heritage felt much more of a natural fit (no SG's in stock that day). One difference not discussed on this or other vids is running tubed tires in the spoked wheel bikes. Is that a big enough factor to consider, especially when planning to use the bike on road trips? Ability to easily plug a puncture is nice to at least get back on the road until it can be evaluated. Is this uncommon enough that spoked wheel style outweighs the potential issue? Maybe Heritage, Deluxe or Slim riders can comment.

Love my Sport Glide. Extremely versatile and comfortable. If I could change one thing, it'd be the chrome primary cover. The black one is much better. If I could change two things, It'd be the aftermarket. There's just not much there compared to other bikes, which is weird because I keep hearing how popular the Sport Glide is. I also really like the blacked out Heritage. The footboards are sweet, but I HATE spokes. The Sport Glide wheels are badass if you ask me. Very unique rims.

I would have liked to see more on the rider experience between the two bikes. More on the feeling between the high bars vs lower bars, and the riding differences between boards and pegs on what is essentially the same platform . My ‘20 Heritage is my first bike with high bars and boards., and I still feel uncomfortable with them. I guess I should have ridden the Sport first, but I loved the ride and stying of the Heritage.

My last HD was a Fatboy with the 103. I ride an Indian now and went to the local dealer during a big tent sale. Rode the Sport Glide because of how nice it looks and the versatility. After the ride, they asked me how I liked it. I told them I did not like the 107. Can’t put my finger on it, but it just doesn’t feel right. Not at idle. Not during acceleration. Not at cruise. For what it costs, hard no. I’m not paying that much for something I don’t love. Won’t be coming back to HD any time soon. The company can go in any direction it chooses. But I’m not paying a premium price for that engine. Love the idea of the Sport Glide, if they had it in 2014 I would have gotten one in a heartbeat. The only gripe I had about the 103 was that heat in traffic. But they would have happily sold me a $200 piece of sheet metal to divert heat from a known problem. But yeah, Harley. Younger riders want a battery bike. Good luck.
