Reminded me once leaving Durango, CO at 5am, 38 degrees, with a buddy on his Heritage, me on my Softail Standard. Kept reaching down alongside the heads to get heat to my hands. Rode all day, over 500 miles to land in the desert where temps were at 115 degrees when we finished. 38 to 115 in the same day was quite a shock to the system. Lol @@MattLaidlaw

My first Sturgis, the 38th. in 1978, there were only 25 thousand in attendance. Same in 80-83. The next time I went in 1997there were almost a half a million people there. I haven’t been there since 1998. Booked the Chip in 22, but a medical issue came up, couldn’t go, and lost all of my unrefundable full price reservation for 4 days. Glad I didn’t go this year because of the slop. Thanks for the show.

I used to be in the Army as an infantryman, who dressed in a Russian uniform and carried an AK-47, at a base via two-lane road 42 miles away from Barstow called Fort Irwin. My bike was my main form of Transport back then and I loved riding in that desert heat. Sorry that it's not such a great ride for y'all, takes a little getting used to. This was such a great video because now I live in tree-covered Georgia, and I miss riding in that Desert Sun. So from a weird angle thank you for this video! And when I do get that ride out in that beautiful Southwest, I'm damn sure riding my sweaty ass into Laidlaw HD❤

70 runs all the way to my neck of the woods in Maryland. I used to ride back and forth between Baltimore and Pittsburgh a bunch on 70 and it was super scenic even over here. Great production value on all your vids from the ride reviews to these road trips. I always look forward to your uploads. Having grown up in Sturgis in the 70s and 80s I hope you all enjoyed the Black Hills and the rally. I will refrain from commenting on that until your next uploads. My current state is CO which I'm glad you passed through. The rides in both states are very similar and both spectacular. You road many of the same highways I have been on for several years now. As much as I-70 has good views, the Rockies have so many awesome highways full of mind bending views. You really should schedule another trip someday just focusing on CO. You got a taste...now get the full experience! I'd be happy to ride with you all if ever you make it. (and don't sweat that gravel experience...I've gotten caught on my Limited in gravel too! lol)

August 14th 1938..my dad was born 11 days later in a farm house in Oklahoma. He just passed 4/25/22…he rode as a young man. I have a pic of him on an old Harley while he was in the Air Force in the late 50’s..his good buddy and a long time member of the Victor McLaglen Motor Corps and ending up my uncle rode together in those days. When you told of the start date of Sturgis with the old pics it reminded me of those that are gone now..
