And that's the saddest part about Visceral and Dead Space's fate. Their faults weren't their own. If they failed on their own merits, I would kind of have a "dems the breaks" attitude towards them with a bit of sympathy. But they did everything EA wanted. EA wanted multiplayer in 2, Vis gave it to them. Literally no one cared. EA wanted Co-op. Vis gave them that, despite the fact that it hurt the horror aspect of survival horror. EA wanted microtransactions, bigger better guns to sell for real money and Vis gave them that, despite the fact that it hurt the survival aspect of survival horror. And after going against what made the game better to appease EA, they were rewarded with their series being cancelled and ultimately shut down. Good devs lost their jobs because EA management insisted they implement their bad ideas. Visceral were the fall guys and those higher ups and killed them got off scott free.

Exactly! Visceral quite literally did NOTHING wrong by their own merits. They just followed what they were forced to do. If they were allowed to be as creative as they wanted to be with the series it possibly could’ve rivaled the likes of Resident Evil in terms of popularity and profit. Even for being as limited as they were Visceral still delivered fantastic horror experiences that I consider some of my favorite games of all time!

How did it happen? EA is traded on the stock market. Its run by suits with market metrics instead of actual gamers. Since its publicly traded, it needs to constantly turn an ever growing profit. It also needs to pay all those suits their millions. It (unlike a smaller studio) has no pride in creating an awesome well loved game and getting goodwill from gamers, it cares about the short term per-quarter or per year profit. And that is all it cares about. As long as gamers keep buying their producta and acting like the rat pressing the cocaine button in regard to mtxs they'll keep doing it. It makes them money.

Bombastic set-pieces aside, Dead Space 2 really did a wonderful job of expanding Necromorph types, and best of all, having a wide variety of environments. The Ishimura is cool and all, but it really starts to feel samey after awhile, Titan Station, on the other hand, you always wondered where you would be next; apartments, schools, churches, trams, the sheer number of different places where you could see how the Marker was effecting everyday life was awesome.

My issues with Dead Space 3 - - Universal AMMO - BULLET SPONGE enemies in higher difficulties - Bad enemy design IE: Human like "zombie" Necromorphs - Poor weapon balancing - SUITS ARE ONLY COSMETIC = No benefit for wearing a "cool suit" - Suit Upgrades make you nigh UNKILLABLE - Weapons can become beyond BROKEN even making the game on HARDCORE feel like a cakewalk - PAY TO WIN DLC's EXAMPLES: Marauder Pack / Bot accelerator - Bot Capacity / Whiteness the Truth pack (whiteness shotgun and DMR are BROKEN Overpowered ) - Plot holes and annoying characters such as NORTON and weak choice of using Enemies with guns (not dead space anymore, just another Third Person shooter action "thriller") - Multiplayer making it too easy (I like CO-OP but it makes the game a complete pushover) - RATION SEALS NOT WORKING ON STEAM - Crafting system is a pain due to certain recourses not spawning (or pay 5$ for Bot accelerator and Bot capacity to fix that problem) - Weapon attachments making the weapons EVEN MORE BROKEN - Annoying Rappel / Climbing sections - Turning Dead Space into a ACTION COVER SHOOTER rather then the Horror Thriller its always been - Fear factor and HORROR elements are cheesy and predictable I can keep going but Dead Space 3 at best is a 4/10 It could have been WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY BETTER but it flopped harder then a catfish in a desert even the DEAD SPACE MOBILE game is way better and only the quarter of the length of Dead Space 3 I've been playing Dead Space since 2008 and I can say, I will always gladly skip Dead Space 3 as it is a stain on the series (thanks to EA), I only play it when I feel like being goofy with friends but even then you get bored quickly as there is zero challenge once you have +3, +4 and +5 circuits and Attachments. So no, I would not say Dead Space 3 is an Underrated Gem. I would say its a pile of Horrible Ideas slapped together with duct tape and a rushed story with boring uninteresting filler content like Issacs relationship issues. IE: the ruined Ellies character Go play DEAD SPACE EXTRACTION (Wii) or the DEAD SPACE MOBILE game if you want a more fun game. But only thing is, is that DEAD SPACE 3 has CO-OP so if you want CO-OP DEAD SPACE this is your only choice (less you count Dead Space 2 PVP Multiplayer). You can blame EA for the mess that is this game.

They should've made Carver the main character to give us a fresh take on the marker's influence with a new "hero". Then the Issac/Shadow Issac thing could've been fleshed out better with Issac as a supporting character who picks off the rest of the cast without anyone knowing.

I still maintain that Dead Space 3 has one of the best crafting/customization systems in video games. It's not perfect of course, so that's more of a eulogy on crafting systems in video games, but I still love it to bits. Having a stasis-powered chain lightning gun/flamethrower combo is one of the most satisfying guns I've used ever.

This series is amazing! I’ve watched them all in a matter of a few days and this one hits too close to home. Dead Space being one of, if not, my favorite franchises. Shame to see them go the “Carver” route. A fractured, shadow Isaac would’ve been such a good fit for the series.

man shadow isaac would have been so cool. The game has one fucking scary part and its one of the sidemissions and you only see it as carver. Hugeass Nutcrackers througout the following areas that only carver can see, and then he has these seizures where you as carver have to fight alone while isaac also fights alone protecting carver and at the end, its a endboss where carver fights childsized agile enemys and his wife, and if you take too long, the isaac player will have a fucking hard time protecting you. It was fucking brilliant, visceral games have insane talent and that was only playable as player 2 on a sidemission.

I had a blast with this game in high school man, that 'build your own weapon' system was not intuitive to learn at all but once I got it I went really deep into it. I loved the customization of my guns itn really made me feel like Isaac the space engineer. I definitely understand most of the criticisms of the game haha but it was a thumbs up for me.
@Canalbiruta2 жыл бұрын
That's the thing. Game isn't bad, is actually a bonkers fun action shooter with sprinkles of horror here and there, problem is that this wasn't the dead space ppl were expecting. I actually didn't mind that much the game at the time, if that meant they could still realize more games with some new neat ideas... Let's say that visceral's ending was the begining of my hatred towards ea
@SteelSpurs Жыл бұрын
@@Canalbiruta Agreed, if this were any other game in any other franchise, I’d just consider it a dumb but fun action game. But as a Dead Space game, it’s terrible.

The flotilla idea sounds really cool. Like, the Normandy was a huge ship, but imagine if an infection occurs on one or more smaller ships and suddenly the ship layout (with strategic considerations in the macro) becomes your "dungeon" layout in the micro, as you move in to try and salvage what resources and crew you can from the remains? A kind of mashup of Mass Effect, Sunless Skies, Skull & Bones , F.T.L., and, like, the Bloodborne auto-generated dungeons or the LoZ: Wind Waker map making functionality, but with Dead Space play...

The PC version has one of the weirdest bugs I’ve ever encountered in a game. Not game breaking but annoying and immersion breaking. The bug has those doors with the wheels constantly making a banging noise. It’s stops briefly when opening but then another door in the area will pick it up. I’m guessing it’s the sound clip that plays when opening in a loop rapidly. This is not a rare occurrence either because there are many threads on EA’s forums and elsewhere about this. Thankfully I found a fan written guide to fixing it by removing the sound file from the game.

See, I didn't have a problem with DS3, though it's been a long time since I played it. No, I didn't care about co-op, and I generally don't in most games. The frozen tundra, the continued mystique surrounding the Unitologists, Danik, and Isaac's degrading psyche were all interesting enough directions, to say nothing of the origins of the Markers and the Brother Moons. The color pallette was also livelier in the city while being uniquely dead on Tau Volantis. I for one liked the ability to craft new weapons, though I admit that forcing the player to limit their abilities would have made for more dynamic gameplay. All in all, I enjoyed the game. Perhaps the team had good ingredients but were being told to bake a mediocre cake by management. DS3 certainly doesn't outdo DS2, but I don't quite get the hate it receives.
