I agree 9 times out 10 the reason the horse acts out is because the rider is expecting it to because they are already nervous over doing something new with their horse the horse will follow the leader

Hi again MATT Spot on advice as always. Lol usually doesn't take them long to figure out life is much easier to travel the road of least amount of work lol! I did the same with one of my horses when he was two years old. If you ask me, I would ride two years old all day long for as long as I can put one foot in front of another. They're just sweet.

Do you generally prefer snaffles for trail work? Or does it just works better with this mare?

I think it's also important, especially if you are out trail riding by yourself, to wear a helmet. You are in an unpredictable environment, and no matter how much control you have over your horse, anything can happen and in the event of an accident you must protect your head!
