What does a finished horse mean? Love your videos! Take care.
@mattmillsreining1
@mattmillsreining1 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! So a “ finished horse “ is kind of saying we throw around for a horse that has a good concept of everything we have taught it. Just about anyone with a decent skill set around a horse can get it to do its job. It’s really kind of a myth. Reality is there is No such thing as being finished! We are always trying to improve or maintain.

Hi Matt. Question, I have a young mare that is very large around 16.1 and I'm trying to teach her to spin. With her being large she has a longer back. So, with her size and long back she struggles getting her hind end under her. Any tips to make her get her hind end under herself?
@mattmillsreining1

How do you teach a green horse to do a rollback
@mattmillsreining1
@mattmillsreining1 4 жыл бұрын
Starts with shoulder movement, I like to start mine by 1st rolling back “ into “a fence. Use that barrier as an aid to prevent forward motion while you turn. After the habit is created, try it away from the fence and refine the cues.

Good morning Matt! Has the Coronavirus/Scandemic affected your training operation much?
@mattmillsreining1
@mattmillsreining1 4 жыл бұрын
Morning, it has slowed down our competitions but not my training. Fortunately I walk to the barn, so being “ locked down “ with my horses has actually allowed me to spend even more time than normal. How has it been for you?
@ST-lt4ls

Matt Mills thanks for your response. Fortunately, I’ve been able to work the entire time because I work from home. I work in healthcare, and there have definitely been some challenges with learning how to deal with Covid and regulations that go with it. We are down in Central TX. Not on lockdown currently but I am afraid it’s headed there again. Most Texans, like myself, honestly won’t stand for another one.

A question out of context with this extreme heat in Phoenix what do you do different in your training
@mattmillsreining1
@mattmillsreining1 4 жыл бұрын
That’s a GREAT QUESTION!!! The heat is a Huge factor in training. We have misters and fans in the barn, large fans and swamp coolers in our covered arena, and a covered exerciser. Our training hours shift quite a bit! We start at 4 am and go to about noon. Training sessions are significantly shorter in the heat.
