Do you have any recommendations for emergency light DALI drivers? I know Tridonic is pretty big but any other suggestions?
@davidclark36039 ай бұрын
I used to work for Micheal Jackson as a tour electrician. 1989 on the bad tour. That was over 30 years ago. For the lighting, there was a system called DMX which stands for, Digital Multiplex. It is still used today. Dali is the fixed installation of DMX. You can control lighting from a phone app etc. you can do the same with audio. company called BSS make "soundweb" a rack mounted device which you can have piped music in the toilets or reception areas etc. theres Nothing new here. It may be strange to contractors and the like but it was invented in 1984 along with midi. It enables devices to talk to one another.of different manufacturers along a telephone line.

nice video :) would be interesting to hear some perspective on DALI vs KNX vs KNX+DALI
@mattnourse4 жыл бұрын
KNX is interesting! Could be a good video thank you
@maxking310 ай бұрын
KNX does all things… heating, lighting, blinds, presence and helps connecting to HVAC, PV Inverters etc as a “digital spine” for the building that ends with logic & visualization / servers. Dali on the other hand does lighting. And does that extremely well. In most of our projects, we use KNX as a foundation and then implement KNX/DALI Gateways for any use case where somewhat complex lighting (more than a single on/off) is needed.

nice video, thanks! but DALI can NOT be set in ring topology.

I have a question, how to choose the LED bulb? Should be DC bulb with same specification of the led driver output, for example if the led driver output is 48 VDC I need to choose a bulb rated at 48VDC? Thank you!!
@mattnourse2 жыл бұрын
An LED bulb should be chosen first by what you want it to do. Flood or narrow beam, cool or warm. Dimmable or not. Then look at how you will power it, led drivers are either constant voltage or constant current. You need to know which type your chosen lamp needs.

I understand DALI networks are adaptable but are they better suited for a star or mesh system, do you think? Moreover, does the light with the strongest signal connect to the network or do all DALI lights report simultaneously to the network? Thank you very much for the clarification.
@maxking310 ай бұрын
Any topology works, as long as you don’t close “rings”… so mesh is not really a good idea. All devices pretty much communicate at the same time… “collisions” are gracefully handled, but if you really want to switch 64 individual rgb lights and then visualize the status on a touchpad, there can be a delay of a second or two.

Is it possible to get a Dali light unit to work as a "dumb" light, i.e. with a traditional switch, line and neutral?
@mattnourse3 жыл бұрын
Usually, most Dali controlled lights will turn on and off if power cycled to them.
@maxking310 ай бұрын
It works. We often use SLV S-Track 3-phase rails. If you use DALi lights with a switchable phase, they just turn off and you can only use a maximum of 3 circuits within that rail system. If you connect the S-Track to a DALI-Controller, you can switch , dim or change colors for 64 individual lamps in 16 groups and still use 2-phases for sockets or non-DALi lights.

you need to make DALI vs DMX
@mattnourse4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment! And for the suggestion. The two are very different and better suited to different applications. What kind of info do you think would make a good video

AUTHOR IS WRONG, IN RING AND MESH NEWTORK THE DALI WILL NOT WORK. THE INFO MAY BE FIND IN THE MANUFACTORY BOOK
@mattnourse3 жыл бұрын
Wow, capital letters. I didn’t know things were so serious. Anyway, the Dali bus Works by Pulsing data voltage. Therefore a parallel ring connection will work fine. If you have a system that does not work, make sure the polarity of the connection is the same.
@ЯПрофи-ш7в3 жыл бұрын
@@mattnourse you are right, but the standard recommends to not do ring or mesh because people are to stupid to make right polarity. olso a lot of drivers are not marked and because of that it is hard to keep right polarity...
