I have no skin in the game, nor the knowledge to back it up, but I do appreciate when somebody admits they’re off about some thing or they clarify it, etc…. That alone is going to make me pay a little more attention to this channel I’ve never seen, talking about lenses and cameras I do not own (the lenses might be things I go after, however:)…

Apology accepted 😁 BTW, a weird thing happened to me: Years ago I found my late dad's Zorki 4. Both camera and lens where really stiff. So I left it at the attic for few more years. I guess summer heats melted that crusty lubricant course apparently camera works now! Likewise, about a year ago my late father's in law Zorki 4K got jammed. I've put it in the box to deal with it later. After a year or so, when I moved, I've took it out and guess what, the camera works agin! It's well known that old Russian cameras are quirky, but this is off the scale! Both cameras are equipped with Jupiter 8, so I guess I'm on the hunt for different LTM lenses now 😊

Of those 15 I've got 5 already! The tiny Voigtlander Color Skopar 21 f4 and TTArtisan 28 f5.6 almost do the same job, a Voigtlander Nokton 40mm f1.4, 2 x Jupiter 8 (1956 and 1977 - both lovely glass) and the 7Artisan 50mm f1.1 which is dreamy but a bit heavy. I'd add the astonishing 7Artisan 28mm f1.4 ASPH and their original 35mm f2 Sonnar type glass as budget friendly and very good (the newer WEN lens is more expensive, but worth a look too)

Thanks for the recommendations. The three lenses (21/35/90) I use on my M6 and M10 allow me to capture 80% of the images I need. If I felt compelled to purchase any of the lenses you recommend, I would probably buy a 28, 50, or 135. However, based on the adapted lenses I actually use, a 14nn f/2.8 or a 16mm fisheye, are what I should be looking for.

@@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom having a few Fuji cameras, and i do think the sensors are very good, ( built quality is ok, but not leica) I feel you're spot on with your video about Leica over Fuji. Being able to shoot so many more old LTM and M lenses ( Full-frame) and get all that goodness at the edges., Very worth it to upgrade to lieca from Fuji. Hey Josh, hmm different. The Pre-ASPH 90 is dependable, arty yet sharp enough for client work (I used for weddings a lot in the past). APO 90 is sharper but still great for portraits wide open. Jupiter-9 is softer and more unpredictable. Less ideal on M cameras, can be fun on SL etc. Use it as a fun lens not you only 90mm I would say. Often not calibrated to Leica M RF so mirrorless is better for focusing.

Any LTM lens with a proper M-LTM adapter (you can get these from a number of companies, I got mine from Urth on Amazon) should mechanically fit on an M6, although some digital cameras have trouble fitting large rear protrusions like the wider collapsing lens barrels. However, Soviet lenses are kind of awful in build quality and the focusing calibration between the lens and the camera might not be accurate even if the camera is correctly calibrated to a Leica, Canon, or other third party lens.

One thing you also missed in the last video is the reason why x-pro line is overpriced. It's because it's the only "rangefinder" style camera on the market with the ovf. There's no other line, camera or brand that has that. Comparing it to leica is exactly like comparing the contax g series with leica m series. People don't buy contax g2 because they can't afford a leica, in fact my m2 cost the same amount as the g2. Just different cameras and people have their preferences. I'm not saying that the fuji price is justified, it's really not, I'm just saying people don't say, oh for the price of the m10 or 11 you can get a canon/nikon/sony body NEW with latest specs and then like 5 lenses. It's redundant because they don't copare, one is a rangefinder and the other is a generic mirrorless.

Thanks and well explained. Yes I remember the Contax Gs when more popular. (Sadly a lot have since died as electronic). The lenses were/are seen better than some M lenses and it suited people wanting AF. If you like G cameras I still need to post a video of a converted G lens to M. ..also I have pencilled a video title similar to M10 vs New X camera. My Fuji video comments opened my eyes to the real world where people buy cameras for more and more specs. Those things don’t bother me so I’ll try to cover that.

I'm considering trading in my digital M8 for a full frame film leica. Either the M7 or MP. I don't shoot much so the cost of film and developing that film at a lab shouldn't be TOO prohibitive. Counter argument is if I don't shoot much anyway why pay more money for a film leica
@ianroe1076

If you can live without a TTL meter, you can get a lot of mechanical Leica M film bodies for much less than the digital bodies. I personally prefer this as there's less to go wrong as the camera ages - one day all M7's will stop working due to the inevitability of failed boards. I swear every M6 user I've spoken to or heard about has mentioned their light meter is inaccurate or inoperable, which is a big deal because that feature adds about $1500 to the price compared to the M4-P.
