About 14 months ago I poured a 18x24 monolith slab to set a storage shed on for lawn and garden equipment and a compact tractor. I used Helix Micro Rebar so I didn’t have to pay the contractor to put rebar in the concrete. So far not a single crack. So yes the homeowner can use these micro rebar products.

I love Helix. You should still use perimeter bar and around opening. They have great PDF engeenering doc that walk you through any use. I using it in New builds and looking to build an exposed concrete house when I get time.

@@sparksmcgee6641 yep I used rebar on the perimeter, although this is going to be pretty light duty use the Helix may be overkill. I had to buy a couple of boxes on line, the local readymix plant had never heard of it.

Helix Micro-rebar is what i use. Runs about $3 to 4 a pound including shipping for pallets. Uses about 7 to 15 lb per yard. That replaces about 80-90% of stick bar. They have the enegneering statements for building departments and a residential rep at headquarters. She can get the in house structural enegenners to do work ups for you. Mostly its a commercial product so its nice thwy have a person to help out people doing residential.

Very interesting all the different products if you’re drilling a shit load of holes that Diablo system is absolutely amazing. Wonder how well it works vertically but a lot of cool stuff.

Matt. I'm not a contractor, I'm disabled woman who needs to drill into brick/concrete to put up shelves. The idea, that I can buy a diablo and use my existing SDS tools & not have to worry about PPE? There is a word for that - Disability Premium. I know what's on my Christmas 2024 list. I just wish they could do something similar for power saws.

Would have loved to see more about additives. There seem to be a lot of "magic" liquids, that influence the concrete's flow and early strength. I wonder if there were any booths about that.

Go follow Intelligent Concrete. The guy literally has a PhD in concrete. Does design and testing for highways the military and large projects. They test and explain all the additives. Colorado Department of Transportation put out engenering specs for concrete to get past all the additive sales people on projects. Most additives have bulk product a ready mix company can add to do what "new" products claim. Keep in mind highway overpass concrete costs $1-2500 a yard. That the type of mixes were talking about. My delivered $130y 4000psi became over $250 when I added 13lb of Helix 25 and 3lbs of Xypex.

Matt you were right with ur initial comment with the AED. Heart attacks are the most common cause of shockable arrhythmias.

Heart attack is a catch all term. A few years ago I had a almost plugged artery, fortunately, that caused a heart attack. A defibrillator would not have done any good in my case and may have caused my heart to stop if someone used one on me. The three types of heart attacks are: ST segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) non-ST segment elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI) coronary spasm or unstable angina The latter is what you would use an AED on. And they are programed to tell the difference and only activate if the heart attack is a coronary spasm or unstable angina. That way anyone can use an AED and not harm someone not suffering a coronary spasm or unstable angina.

I’m glad you’re doing better. Heart attack is a legitimate medical and colloquial term. It means myocardial infarction from blockage of the blood vessels supplying the heart. Whether you have ST elevation on EKG or not determine if it’s a STEMI or NSTEMI. Unstable angina and coronary spasm are examples of acute coronary syndromes along with heart attacks but don’t result in cardiac tissue death. They are stratified because the treatment and management pathways are slightly different. Shocking with AED is not part of the treatment of any of these unless there is ventricular fibrillation or ventricular tachycardia without pulse which are fatal arrhythmias-disorder of the hearts electrical signaling. These can occur with any of the above and in fact the most common cause of them is a STEMI. So when someone needs to be shocked to restart the heart a good bet is that they suffered a bad heart attack or perhaps specifically a STEMI. I don’t mean to be pedantic but there’s enough misinformation floating around the internet. Not that your comment was misinformation or harmful it just wasn’t exactly right. I’m not a cardiologist but I am an MD and I’ve had extensive training and experience with ACS.

@@frqnj But if your heart is still pumping blood normally it does not need to be restarted or returned to a normal rhythm, which is what a defibrillator was designed to do.

@@oldtimefarmboy617 yes you’re right. The only instance you would use it is in cardiac arrest so no pulse/pumping of blood with a rhythm of either V fib or V tach. Why would your rhythm go into this and your heart suddenly stop? There’s lots of reasons but by far the most common is having a heart attack.

Someone should make powerboards extension leads that talk to each other so that you can set the max load and they never trip the braker. just specify which ports are never allowed to trip and which ones can turn off and on, then you can have your tools keep running when they draw more current cause the system turns the power off or reduces the total current available to things like batteries, coffee makers, phone chargers etc. when you stop using the tool (and some programmed time buffer you don't kill things by turning them on an off again).the low priority items turn back on. Another idea do all the chargers have the ability to charge phones etc from the batteries incase you trip a breaker or something too? Powerboard with chargers and usb one smart solution for everything

I didn't follow it because their has been imbedded censors in hi rise concrete for decades. From the look of it they want to charge a bunch and get recurring revenue by packaging basic tech.

The main problem with FRP rebar is that it's less ductile and you can't field bend it the way you can with steel. So, given stress, the rebar cracks and breaks rather than just bending.

Yes, but a lot of builders will work off incomplete plans and figure it out as they go. So field bending is necessary. If you have a complete drawing package from an architect and engineer you can purchase 100% of the pre-bent (actually pre-molded/shaped fiber bar)​ for all your corners and door/window headers, etc.@@loumalibu5596

You can mix them and put steel around bends after throwing down a pile of fiberglass. Finding them in 20 ft sticks is tougher where I am so you lose 20 percent for overlaps.

The DeWalt math is a bit uncomfortable. 120v X 15a=1,800w ➗36 min ( trigger time) =50w per min but we have to cut that in half because he said 2 batteries. If I remember correctly it takes .13 watts to lift 1lb 1 inch over time so I assume it jumps at least 2 inches per second or 36 watts a minute with zero losses. WHAT AM I MISSING??? I'm 360w short or a third of the battery.

Those batteries deliver 54v under load I believe. Not the 60 as advertised

@@sparksmcgee6641 the motor has to run constantly otherwise the inrush current would be a non starter( were not talking hand trigger on off, more times per second range)The components would be huge to handle it. I haven't been done inrush calculations for years but it's a heavy loss.

wire mesh is bent into rolls....that can be unrolled. can't do that with fiberglass

@@utpharmboy2006 have you ever used fiberglass insulation because that is pretty flexible. Something as thin as mesh could easily come in roll form but even if it couldn't they'd just ship it in packs of big sheets.

It's been mixed in for decades. Take my word for it you can get anything you want for a price. Residential concrete runs about 130 to 150 these days. High rise foundations and hiway over passes runs 1500 to 3000 a yard. You can go as high as you want using things like carbon fiber re enforcement ect..... that's used in repairs mostly. I think it would be over 20,000 a yard the last time I priced it out.

I thought there was good research on it potentially related to the volcanic ash they mixed in with it along with limeclasts that give it strength and self healing capabilities. There’s pretty robust research on it I just don’t think it’s economically feasible to recreate the formulations.

That's a lie. The first SECRET is the only remaining material is in areas it doesn't freeze and it's been repaired multiple times. We know everything about Roman concrete. Contrary to what so.e college marketing department says when trying to sell a new additive that doesn't perform as well as current products.😊

@@Dirty_Dog_Ranch_TX I have replaced most of my lawn and garden equipment with electric Ego products. What surprises me the most is the self propelled walk behind mower. Plenty of power and a 10 amp 54 volt battery will last almost as long as a tank of fuel on my previous Honda mower. Not saying there aren’t any drawbacks, initial price being the major one. Biggest advantage for me is how quiet everything is, no need for earplugs.
