In today's adventure, we are checking out Chateau LaRoche, also known as Loveland Castle, in Loveland, OH. The crazy story behind this castle castle and the man that built it is unbelievable, but TRUE!

I was there as a kid in the late 60s or early 70s. The owner was building at that point but stopped to give us a tour. It was nowhere near the size it us now! Amazing man. Very friendly.

We saw this castle in 1962. Our 7th grade class showed up, and Mr. Harry stopped his work and told us many interesting stories. One thing I remember is he started to use the cardboard milk cartons for the forms to make bricks. He was a great,great guy that day.

If Harry was such a big fan of architecture, why did he name a "castille" a "chateau"? That's the Five Nations Imperial fortification called 'Castille Le Roich'. Read your treatises, kids.

Other than the wildly exotic tales you spun as to how he came to build it, it was an entertaining video. I don't know where you got your information, but I got my information straight from the mouth of Harry Andrews himself. Back in the 1950s I lived a short distance away, over on Fields-Ertel Road and would ride my bike down to the castle all the time when I was a kid, 9-12 year old. I asked him one day why he built it and he suddenly got a sad look on his face. He told me how he'd stumbled upon the real "Chateau Laroche," which he'd seen over in France during the war. He said he'd been so impressed by that castle (a chateau, really) that he asked about the plans and got them. He said he didn't actually start construction on it until after his wife had died prematurely and did it as a tribute to her. Which is why the work never really ended for him --- he was constantly adding to that place. This is what Harry told me. Nothing about saving the owner's son or being "knighted." You may want to consider re-narrating this. Oh, and nothing about building it for a "boy scout troop." There was no boy scout troop then. Just a handful of boys like myself, who rode their bikes there and hung around a lot to explore the castle and watch Harry work. A Boy Scout troop may have come later, but in the 50s? Nope. At any rate, the "Castle" is less a Medivial Fortress and more the Taj Mahal. All the best! ---Jim
