RE: Big axles Consider something like a wrecker based on a Steiger Bearcat. A Flexible Articulated Recovery Truck Retriever. Yes, the center pin would need a rotation limiter and possibly a lock, the hydraulics would be challenging, but the boom could run off the 3-point hitch and hydraulic winches may be available as scrap. The rear drive shaft might need to be coaxial with the central rotation pin. This way there are no steering issues! Add in the possibility of getting huge articulation and it looks interesting. Just be sure to include multiple inclinometers ro prevent rollovers.

Hit the brakes once on an off ramp (we call them slip roads in the UK) at 80+mph. Big thump and my foot goes to the floor. Turned out the car that I'd only recently bought had a chunk missing from the disk/rotor and yanked a pad out of the calliper. That turn after the slip road should not be possible at those speeds but it's amazing what you can do when you fear for your life. The handbrake calliper was nearly on fire when I finally stopped. I have to say, I really enjoy TomTom content and I'm looking forward to the upgrades on DigDug.
@SlickBubbles Жыл бұрын
Were your pants dry afterwards? LOL! Thrice, I've had a similar experience, with a red light right in front of me. A valve stuck open in the brake system. Fortunately, I was driving a car with a manual transmission and there weren't any cars coming straight through the lights, so I was able to make a very quick right turn. I had a pedal-type parking brake. The system didn't register the problem until it happened the fourth time. That's when the dealer finally found the problem. Before that, they thought I didn't know what I was talking about. After the fourth time, when the car was brought to the dealership, my husband laid into them about their attitude towards me, because I actually knew what I was talking about, since I had qualified for my pro racing license just a few years before.

Questions.. - it's a dual master cylinder.. why did It lose all the brakes? - why was their any brake fluid left in both reservoirs? It seems the front reservoir should have been totally empty.. Is it possible that there's another, additional, problem? Brake fade, moisture in the lines / boiling, bad master cylinder, air in lines.. Strange / dangerous that both circuits failed..
@enochhutchcraft8304 Жыл бұрын
Yes, must be an additional problem with the rear hydrualic system. Front hydraulic failure doesn't equal total brake failure. Significant loss of total braking, but rear brakes should have still worked. When Tom pulled the lid off the master cylinder, the back half (rear hydrualic system) you can see that the rubber bellows was pulled down similar to the front section, so a significant loss of rear fluid had occurred since the last time he pulled the lid off the master cylinder and checked the fluid. The front and rear systems are totally seperate except for the plunger inside the master cylinder itself and even that plunger has two completely independent hydrualic sections, one front, one rear.

vice grips, always carry good vice grips and brake fluid... it'll get you home, rubber or steel lines(fold the steel a few times). it helps to have working parking brakes and manual trans. also front brakes are the majority of stopping force, on road or off road(except when going backwards). 4wd helps, since the rears will slow the fronts via drivetrain.

7018 along with grinding a bevel almost to a knifes edge and fill the bevel with pass after pass with the 7018 rod. Or if its cast use a Nicad rod. If you have a stress point it needs to be beveled pretty sharp. At the mines we had a 3 inch bolt shaft break on a crusher mount. They spent three weeks trying to remove it. I said I could shave down the edges of the bolt shaft making it a point. I cut up another bolt close to the head of the bolt an welded a threaded end back onto the stuck bolt shaft. I used 7018 and large washers stack and a nut so as to not grind down the weld possibly weakening it. It was still holding that crusher down when I left the mines a couple of years later. When trying to pull the broken shaft out the first time I had to weld a plate across that bolt shaft along with a metal ring on the top of the whole thing. They had two 80 ton rams working on the top part of the shaft with the cross plate I'd welded on and an 80 ton crain pulling on that ring on top along with another 80 ton ram pushing from the bottom of the bolt shaft and that bolt never budged but non of my welds cracked or broke. I haven't worked there for many years and as far as I know that rig is still holding that crusher in place.

It is NOT bad to break your own stuff just so you can go back and have a fun day retrieving it noone should be mad at that.

8:54 Look at the SIZE of the portals added to the SxS. They appear to add several inches to each side of the vehicle's track (width). That much will greatly increase the loads/stress on the ball joints and steering linkage. No wonder it broke

Tom's square body needs to meet Robby Layton! It would look so great

16:16 - Whenever Matt starts singing hits from the 90s, it painfully reminds me of how old I am. 😁 😜 Some time ago he quoted lyrics from a Beastie Boys hit and now it's _"The Distance"_ by Cake

As a Kawasaki, Terex owner, I’m glad to see that they rarely rescue a Teryx and a Teryx was able to help in the recovery. But also being a Teryx owner, I know that they’re so solid and ride like a lumber wagon they generally hurt the owner before the Terex itself breaks down. 😂😂

Whats the deal with side by sides breaking front suspension components? Are they underengineered for the weight? Or are people pushing them too far? Both?
@isaacfortner Жыл бұрын
A little of both. People overestimate their capabilities and assume they are pint sized trophy trucks, but they are built to a price.

Another flawless recovery done by Matt & Tom. And the first time I had ever heard of CHICKEN 🐔 IN A BISKIT Snack, was by watching his channel. Now I have them on the grocery list every time I make one. Those things are simply outstanding. And did I say addicting??? They are!! and I owe my new addiction to Matt!! 😊
