His Engineering degree will come in handy figuring out how to get folks out of messes they've managed to get themselves into. Liz already had a great head on her shoulders and has been absorbing knowledge from Matt. They all work so well together, and thanks to the camera folks that work so hard getting the shots, and the editors. All of you are appreciated. And Matt once thought no one would want to watch him work ❤ GOD bless you all and keep you safe.

Kudos for keeping the land clean and removing a wheel. In EVERY recovery shown so far that involves the wrecker, it has been readily apparent that you NEED to devise a supplemental support, one which prevents the towed vehicle from running into the lift cables and/or the back of the wrecker.

Yeah I'm not an off-road guy, but I'm thinking Matt didn't have a lot of hook & sling experience, otherwise he wouldn't be hooking onto & damaging bumpers like he has in other vids. Another possibility, that might be flexible enough for off-road, is a donkey dong like on the old cradle-snatcher rigs.

Guys, I did heavy off road recovery for various military development testing grounds in the1970’s. We had to recover vehicles with quite severe axle and frame damage. All of our wreckers had fixed and telescopic booms. To stop the lifted vehicle fro hitting the rear of the wrecker we used either a pivoting A bar with one side attached to the hooks and the other to a single pivot on the rear of the wrecker of an adjustable single bar that was damped with a shocker😢. This way the lifted unit cannot run into the wrecker but can still articulate around a single pivot and therefor doesn’t need a driver in the lifted unit.

Matt, as a previous military recovery guy, it seems to me that a little longer boom on the wrecker might resolve a lot of the clearance issues you are having. You have enough front end weight and as long as you don't go crazy long it should still handle the trails fine.

I think you need to make a bar that can hook to your hitch on one end and somehow universally attach to the towed vehicle on the other. that would help with stabilizing front to rear movement while driving so you don't risk the boom. Maybe something adjustable in length like a pipe within a pipe.

But it does provide plenty of job security for the MORR crew and entertainment for the rest of us. And perhaps some of us can learn a lesson or two from watching the mistakes of others!

@Matt - The WLORW needs a boom extension (for lighter loads) designed to be like a letter 'C', so that the outside end arrives at the load pointing more or less directly down. The lines (ropes) would be looped over pulleys that were within two fixed plates, so the lines could never jump off the pulleys. The "Big C" boom extension would perhaps pivot back up for on-boom stowing, or perhaps be removeable. The 'C' only needs to be 2-3 feet to provide clearance. Another option would be a welded assembly that pokes into the end of the existing boom, to extend out and then down as described above.

Matt what do you think of padded cable sleeves (open with velcro or something so they can go on and off). When you tighten up something like that Razor just put them on just before you get tight against that fiberglass. Those are pretty light, as long as it is a good pad that has some substance to it, it should spread the pressure enough to prevent damage. The best thing about this idea, is it is cheap, you can make the sleeves from Denim and dense foam and some velcro and a sewing machine. Maybe some carbon fiber matting or similar kevlar or something lining thrown in there to prevent the cable from wearing a hole.

Hi Matt and team - another great vid as usual. I have been thinking about your proximity problem since you started using the Heavy Wrecker. Have you thought about a solid stand off bar that fits on your tow pintle and clamps somewhere on the vehicle being towed (eg sway bar, panhard rod etc). The bar would then ensure the towed vehicle doesn't run on into the back of the Wrecker. May not work for all situations but ...
@jasonhoover2590

To stop stuff hitting the back of the wrecker build an a frame that slides into your outside receiver hitches and then make attachments for the other end to go into a receiver For vehicles with receivers and a way to attach that point to recovery points you could also build a tire holder to press against bumpers Softly. You can make it pivot up and down so that is still hanging off the Rope and while driving you can use it to hold the boom up so the weight is not on the rope while driving

I have a solution for your problem of the towed vehicle hitting the boom. Create (cause you guys are great at that) a solid bar, maybe an A-Frame or H-Frame that attaches from the back of the wrecker to the towed vehicle with an integrated shock absorber or two that will stop the towed vehicle from swinging into the boom. Incorporate rubber backed padding to cushion the horrible plastic parts as well. A simple tow strap that you currently use would still work independently for pulling the vehicle. I'm sure you'd come up with something much better than my poor description of this, but that's the concept. :)

Great work y'all! Have you thought about designing some sort of carrier for the back of the wrecker to complement the boom and prevent vehicles from swaying and getting to close?

Hey Matt! Suggestion, build the boom to extend to avoid contact with hanging vehicle.😊 Love the vids

16:08, I usually try not to be the whole safety guy but whoever was on the camera moved right next to the most dangerous point on that recovery. I am pretty sure everyone saw what happened when that soft shackle broke at the wrecker games, even if that was just because the shackle was damaged by the truck flip it just shows how possible that kind of accident can be when even the most experiences offroad recovery guys are running the gear. Great video, would just hate to see someone on the crew get smacked out by one of those recovery rings for a shot.

based on some of the recent wrecker videos, it seems you guys would benefit from a slightly longer boom so as to push the dead vehicle a little farther from the wrecker.

I always amazed at the knowledge lizzy has gained in a short while. I think Tom is too. 😅 great job ya'll. I love that Tennessee got a mention too.

Lizzy's husband is a musician who i think lives in Tennessee if i'm not mistaken. She might end up there someday. That would be great for her, but a sad day for us.

Lizzy, she's not afraid to get dirty with the crew. I think Matt should make a custom rubber sling for the wrecker. Eric from BSF has the chain sling.

I Love watching you guys try to deal with mud. I’m an East coaster.... it’s good for a chuckle watching all those folks learn about mud! I trailered my ATV to Utah and was worried my mud tires wouldn’t be happy out there, but as MERLIN proved with his swampers... we can go anywhere with mud tires...

Lizzy has grown so much in this business and her abilities to know what to do are amazing. Why not mount something soft on the back of wrecker to absorb the vehicles that swing during the haul
