@@youtubeaccount9058 i was impressed as well, that he was skilled enough to get a jeep Liberty to where it rolled, that it was the edge that gave way causing the roll, if not for that who knows how far he could have driven it. Then basically was driven out missing a drive shaft all the way to home. The Jeep Liberty's trail rated status can be questioned, but NOT the mans ability to maneuver a less then ideal 4x4 over rough terrain. What can he do with a more capable trail rig?

We took our bone stock 2005 Jeep Liberty with 220,000 miles in the back way to Desert Bar in Parker Arizona. At the gatekeeper we were being laughed at, told it was a stupid idea and I'm pretty sure bets were being made. Haha. With two open diffs it was definitely a challenge. Even along the trail people in true rock crawlers were telling us not to attempt any further. Long story short, with a good spotter, we saw most of the naysayers at the bar while we got something to eat. No damage done and a lot of respect from those in purpose built machines. I could only image the places we would go if we did some modifications

I had one with almost 300k on a 2 in lift with 31s and it did well for what it was, was starting to get some decent blow by when I sold it to a friend he wheeled it a little more n ended up rolling it on its side trying to get outta a drainage ditch

Run a 2006 Liberty CRD , diesel, 200K , also stock, and it has easily gone everywhere and done everything my old 2" lifted , Cherokee did before.. But YES, a Spotter, (but I've gotten old, and nowadays I don't run trail solo, and avoid the dark even with extra recovery gear onboard).

Well if the speed was low enough when he rolled it, I see no problem. I rolled once a Volkswagen Pick-up going about 25 - 30 miles on a dirt road. Stupid mistake of mine, was not using seat-belts (as the VW-Pick-up had none) , and when it rolled I was turned upside down in the vehicle. The gear-shifter hit a couple of ribs.

Not only offroad capable but holds four people comfortably. The all welded chassis ( no bolt on " clips ' ) makes any non rusted chassis a great candidate for this application. Many years ago I saw an early vair sedan sitting on a Blazer chassis. The Lakewood wagon is a gem !

@@chickentaco9934 Most of my raw track wheeling Ido alone. It can be scary when things start to go wrong, but so far I’ve been lucky as well as very cautious. I carry a fair bit of recovery gear including a ground anchor for winching when I’m above the tree-line (over 1400m / 4500 ft). Injuries are the main concern, the rule of 3s would come in handy then, but luckily I’ve never needed it.

@@chickentaco9934 99% of my quad and dirt bike riding is done alone. I do carry a Personal locater Beacon, but I do need to be conscious to activate it. Crap still happens. I am 73 years old now, so I do NOT do the crazy stuff that I use to do when I was younger and bullet proof. LOL My dirt bike is an XT600, so I pretty much stick to the roads with that HEAVY thing, but I still love riding it. My quads are Polaris XP 550 4x4s.

Indeed! I once tried to drive a 2WD dune buggy over a bunch of 3-foot diameter power poles laying on the ground. As soon as the back tires got over the first pole, the poles rolled apart and promptly high-centered the buggy. After several minutes of flooring it in reverse and making loads of tire smoke, I managed to pick up some traction and drive right back out the way I came!

a couple of years ago I was going on Jeep Badge of Honor trails in a stock 96 Geo Tracker with a set of AT's before I got in too far and off the actual trail and called for help... the recovery guy said the same thing about me, lol. I've since upgraded to an 2005 Liberty Renegade and slapped a new pair of MT's on it and its even more capable than the Tracker was. The only surprise I saw here is that this guy was running some bald street tires. Helluva good job on the recovery, too.

Often times the camera does not show how steep the angles are, and when the camera does pick that up, it's usually WAY worse than what we see on video. Congrats on making this one work. Real pros!!

I had liberty with 3 inch lift and 31 mt's. It was 5 speed manual and was a absolute blast off road. So many xj's and wranglers got a kick out of it on the trails. Had it's limits, but impressive for a IFS.

Same here although mine is an automatic. Lifted on 31” mud terrains. I threw a locker in the rear end and it gets me pretty much anywhere I need to go. Love it when the wrangler and XJ guys and see me keeping up

The Corvair may not be finished...but it's certainly useful as it is right now! That said this is like live testing for it....anything you find that's not up to snuff right now, can be improved before it's finished. So far though, it's handling things quite nicely.

It's shorter than the XJ and taller. Was advertised as having the same cargo space in back but got it from vertical space thus the higher center of gravity. Never liked 'em because of that. Chrysler never should have nixed the XJ platform rather it should have gotten a better V6 as AMC intended back in '84, quadra coil suspension with its own Rubicon configuration (D44 front and rear), and some H3 styling cues. That's what it should have looked like but Hummer beat 'em to it. The XJ is dead. Long live the XJ!

Tracy, hi just this week a pilot & his sone went to a small airport camped by the aircraft , then saw all those tracks in grass & gravel, then came upon a memorial some 30 years ago, some btunk guy & his cousin were doing donuts, in some jeep, it rolled, the cousin was ejected & crushed, someone else went for help, no phone service , anyhow he went to JAIL but those demurs were STILL THERE after all those years, it was a FOREST SERVICE AIRPORT, CHEERS 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

We owned a Liberty. It actually did pretty well off road. A bit short on ground clearance but approach and departure angles were not too bad. We stuck to easier trails but it was a little mule willing to get the job done.

That Liberty has a very good 4x4 system. Never underestimate a Jeep, it just might embarrass you. A guy at a cruise in was bragging how awesome his Ford pick up was. After about ten minutes of him jabbering, I said, "I have a four cylinder Jeep that could probably give you a good tug o war". He laughed, "No four cylinder is going to pull my big V-8 4x4". He wasn't thinking about traction. His pickup has about 70% weight on the front tires and 30 on the back. I didn't warn him my 'Jeep' was a Liberty with a 4 cylinder diesel that made 300 pounds of torque just off idle. When I pulled around to hook up, he said, "That's a V-6 but I'll still drag it all over this parking lot". So I showed him the underhood and the owners manual. Four cylinder 2.8 liters. I didn't even punch it at first, just held about 1/3 throttle. I could hear his back tires spinning he was barely pulling me. So I gave it 1/2 throttle and I started creeping forward. He got frantic and floored his truck. LOL. Smoke was rolling off his tires as I pulled him around the lot.

I grew up with those little flat-fendered Jeep pickups, 1949, 1958, 1959. We used them for ranch work and to hunt elk in central Montana. My Dad put those trucks in some fearsome places.

Great job. Love the sound of the Corvair. I've been totally hooked on y'all's videos since the Chevy truck y'all recovered that was hanging off the side of the mountain. Love seeing the dogs making sure you know where to go. They always seem to find the recovery first. Also great to see the family working together. Would like to commend all of you in the Utah area that seem to be willing to work with each other instead of trying to put each other out of business. My second comment , I totally agree with everyone's thoughts about how he got so far in there . An adventurous soul . He ( the customer ) was cleaning up after himself , ballast on some of the treacherous off camber trail sections and waiting with shovel in hand to help with recovery .

You are correct, they are decent. I had a 2006 diesel and had it on a 2" OME lift with 265/75R16's with detroit truetracs in both axles. It's pretty capable like that, but the biggest issue is tires. Even fitting the 265/75's required cutting and hammering and all sorts of stuff to barely clear. Thats not even a 32" tire. Meanwhile I fit 285/70R17's on my stock Lexus GX and all I had to do was heat up the fender liner to bend it slightly. And I was constantly having issues with ball joints and wheel bearings in the Jeep and had to replace the rear boomerang link. Like by 100k miles I had done most of them at least twice. Great vehicle on paper but I personally felt it fell short in real life.

@Gryff Longdong A lot of insurance doesn't cover off road like this under a standard policy. Just like they don't cover racing if you take your new C8 to a drag strip and put it into the wall because you took off traction control. So recovering the vehicle and not damaging it further is useful for the owner to either part it out or to transplant the good parts into a 'new' shell. And even if the insurance does cover and total it out you can often buy back the vehicle at the salvage value from the insurance.

I knew someone that hydrolocked his WJ at an off road park. (Rods broken) He towed it home, detailed it, and drug it down the road during the next rainstorm and put it in a low ditch. Called his insurance company and said he slid off the road and through a puddle. Insurance covered it hahahahahah

Yeah, it's crazy just how capable they are in stock form. If you wanted to do a cheap SAS, you could probably grab the D30 from a ZJ Grand Cherokee and have a good start as long as you don't go crazy with the tires. The Liberty already has coils. You could even build a super 30 if you felt like lifting it further. They don't look like it, but the 1st gen Liberty has a slightly longer wheelbase than an XJ and a stiffer unibody structure than the XJ and ZJ. I'm surprised they aren't more popular.

He was on his way back from further up the trail!. He was on an uneventful (for him) journey. It all came unstuck when the front driveshaft blew...so he only had rear wheel drive. As we can see even when it was being towed, rear wheels drive only means the back end "walks" on a sideslope under power... So, this sideslope = roll. He drove that vehicle back to his home after Matt towed him out. Not his first rodeo..
