I have this realization anytime I drive to Los Angeles from AZ. The lower 48 aren't even close to being the largest land mass in the world, but having to drive for 7 hours at 80 - 85mph while knowing it's just a tiny section of the country really blows my mind. Hello to everyone at Matt's Off-road Recovery! I have been enjoying your videos for a while now. I found your channel a little bit before the golden nugget project began. I was sucked right in! Lol. I am a mobile fabricator/heavy truck and equipment mechanic that was born and raised in northeast Ohio. Let me say that as a Christian man there hasn't been many times in my life that I wished the Lord put my family and myself in a different geographical location. That being said, I can't help but wish that we were closer to your neck of the woods! You guys are some of the most awesome humans God made! I really mean that! I've seen you help kids fix their dirtbike chains on the side of the trail and countless free recoveries simply because your in the area. I really wish everyone with the amount of knowledge and skills you ALL have had the same humanitarian attitudes that you guys all seem to have! A perfect example is what Robbie and his crew are doing for that young man who lost his father in that crash. People here in ohio just simply don't do those types of things for eachother. It sounds ridiculous to say because of a KZbin channel, but you and your pals give me hope and motivation to give whenever possible and remind me that there's still good in this messed up world! I apologize for the long winded message but I wanted you to know that your channel is much more than just entertainment/education. It's also incredible inspiration! We tried pulling a feller out of quicksand there on the dirty devil river back in april. 4 hours in we couldn't get him out and barely got my bronco out after it got stuck in the same quicksand. LEGIT quicksand. We ended up giving him a ride to Hanksville where he called a professional to get him out. When I saw you were heading to hanksville I was hoping it was that dude so I could actually see the recovery. Rough terrain out there! Careful folks.

Stock jeeps are made of very expensive wet wonderbread, nowadays. Jeeps and Razers are Matt's b-model. It's a costly way to off-road. Owned a manual Jeep 72 Commando and a manual Kaiser M38A. Bringing an extra fuel pump, filter and 5 feet of fuel hose was my recovery kit...

Once I realized where you were going I knew how tough the track would be. My wife and I went in there all the way to the Dollhouse (another 5.5 miles further) in 2018. Technical and slow going. So you Matt and crew are officially the most kick ass recovery crew to be able to go in and pull out that Jeep in one day. I feel you guys pain! I just drove 975 miles in 14 hours, yesterday, only stopping for gas and bathrooms. Food was at the gas station. No other drivers available to switch with either. Two teenage boys in the back seat and no one riding shotgun. Brutal. Virginia is home. We were coming back from visiting my sister in West Palm Beach Florida. I love your videos!! Awesome recovery boys!!! Trevor are awesome buddy!! I always loved them longer recovery’s as long as I had everything that was needed for the job and for the hunger!!! Lol! Years ago there was a rescue mission that we had to go on and it was a semi that was getting off at a rest area and the off ramp to get to the fest area was a circle almost!! Well the semi driver didn’t realize how sharp of a turn it was and literally drove Wright off the side and ended up rolling the flatbed trailer that was loaded full of rough cut lumber and of course the straps didn’t hold the load on the trailer!! So we had to pick up every last board by hand and stack on the forks of a skid loader and haul up the bank and put onto another trailer!! It happened around 4:00pm and we had gotten there a little after 5:30!! There was four of us and then across the interstate there was some Amish guys that showed up just out of the blue and asked if they could help!! There was two or three of them witch definitely helped out a bunch but still didn’t get done until 7:00 to 8:00 the next morning!!! It wasn’t to bad just a lot and a lot of stix to pick up and load on another trailer!!! The Amish was taken care of also for helping us out also!!! All I could think about was how much longer it would have taken if the Amish guys that was so nice to stop by and ask if we needed any help!!! Awesome video guys and remember keep up all the hard work!!!!!

My Jeep Cherokee XJ broke down in Monticello, UT in San Juan County almost exactly one year ago today. I was stranded there for a whole week before the replacement AC compressor could be delivered via UPS! Fortunately, I was towing an ATV, so I spent the week exploring the area. Hanksville!! Back in 03 spent a week there as home base for a week of motorcycling all around the area. Visited all the parks and towns. Rates as one of the best MC trips ever in my 50, yes 50 years, of 2 wheeled adventures. Very soon I'm planning a repeat trip, but will be adding Hurricane to the list of places to go and get a Matts Off Road Recovery T-Shirt to the massive collection of shirt from all the travels. Got a toyhauler trailer and a Ram 3500 so I can stay at the RV parks this time. No off roading in the 1 ton though. Learned from this channel about what DOESN'T work out there. Hoping Utah 12 is a beautiful a ride as it was back in the day.

I drove that road 8 months ago, all the way to Doll House. We went in through Hans Flat and back out through Hite. The route they did once you get north of Teapot Rock it gets very technical. It's not overly difficult for one good vehicle but some parts are tight and would be difficult for towing someone. From Hanksville back to Doll House and back out is 200 miles, mostly offroad, without a place to buy gas. Most offroad vehicles will drop below 10mpg on that technical stuff. If you go out through Hite and if the gas station is open that gives you another option for buying gas. Oh and we were in a red JLU that looked a lot like that one. A JLU under its own power, not towing anything, will drive that road without any problems at all.

My oh my! From Hite area, 2 hours E to Teapot Rock, then 2 hours "rock and roll". Then another half hour...looked like dead jeep was near the Wall Camp (in the Maze area). On the exit, another 4.5 hours back to near the Highway. Then 2 hours N & NE to Green River. Then N, NW to Spanish Fork, then N, NE to Heber City (as video showed). And then all the way back to Orem (to I-15) and then a 4 plus hour drive to Hurricane. Who pays the fees & how much to Rory & Matt for the spartan & tortuous recovery? I've been on the Hite road, on the exit from various Maze camps, multiple times. It's a tedious and long drive, pretty, but exhausting, and then N to Hanksville to gas up (eat) then N to I-70. Most vehicles need extra gas for ventures like this (either down the Flint Trail or Hite Road) to Teapot and then on to Wall, Standing Rock, Chimney Rock and three camps at Doll House region. And the route out, like these people did. The recovered vehicle; if the four wheels were rolling, I don't understand why other vehicles 'in there" couldn't have pulled it out, adjacent to the highway at Hite? And then get towed to Hanksville or Green River? Regardless, great job gentleman, 24 hour spartans.

In Canyonlands National Park is the White Rim Trail. It goes 100 miles down into the canyons and you come out only at the end. I was at the head of it and saw off road vehicles/motorcycles as well as cyclists on gravel bikes heading down into it. Can't wait to try myself.

Great Video...as always...And BTW...I live in MX and do a fair amount of "service work recovery" on the sand dunes and the beaches. Note to self...NEVER let someone else connect your recovery ropes to their vehicle. I helped a guy get a Yukon out of the sand that was buried to the frame. (Yes I trusted him on his connection to his vehicle). On my first attempt to pull him out, it severed my 200.00 kinetic rope immediately because he attached it to a sharp part of the frame. Although pretty disappointed, I own the mistake. Lesson-learned and shared with you. Finally got him out on my second try with a slip knot (on the severed end of the rope). Now I need to figure out if there is a way to mend this rope or retire it and get a new one. Grrrrr.

I drove from Hite to the Doll House by myself back in 1984.Before GPS,cellphones and all of that stuff. Didn't see anyone for 3 days. The exit route took me up the Flint Trail and then to Green River. I was pretty much running on fumes but did make to a gas station.If you think that area is remote now just think about 38 years ago !!

I love the Maze!!! The first time went back there we were way in over our heads. Both leaf springs bust up through the bed, cracked the rear differential, bent the drive shaft, and broke the frame. Then drove it all the way back to Indiana like that. Ahhh to be young and dumb again.

When I watched Rory's version of this recovery, I didn't appreciate how tough it was going to be to steer that jeep over crazy rough terrain for several hours with no power assist. Skeeter's arms must have been literally dropping off by the time they got to the trail head. So respect to him because I didn't hear him complain in Rory's video, even if he did keep letting the rope go slack (a bit of passive aggressive there).

This video and Rory’s video make a great collaboration! Individually they make a good watch. More video perspectives are a blessing on these recoveries. I was hoping to see the “jump” when you talked about it on Rory’s video. Montage slow motion required. Edit: almost thought you left out the part where the camera wolf howl’s at the squirrel.

I got stuck in a sand dune, the middle of the night, on my B-day, in Death Valley, by myself. It was over a hundred even at 2:00 am. The only thing I did right was told my kid where I was going. DUH!

This Team-up performed an awesome job! I can't help but to wonder though … what is the drivetrain setup Rory has in Trail mater? That effortless pull at 17:33 was quite astonishing with no engine rev's using a clutch! I'm sure it has a big block producing oodles of torque, but what is the gearing??

Trail Mater has lots of gearing combinations. It has a 454 power with a dual transfer case doubler system. Rory can run front wheel drive with lockers, rear wheel drive with lockers or 4 wheel drive with lockers.

I DO NOT run a doubler. That is a stock 4 speed with a stock 205 transfer case with 4:10 gears. And of course a big block...

Ok Rory I was wrong on the doubler. I was listening to other people's comments about you you were able to run all of the different combinations pulling up and around corners with loads on.

I was thinking $100 per hour per person. 24x4x100= $9,600. Plus equipment costs. Easily $13,000 +. KZbin can help with income but that is an expensive recovery.

I swear I wrote that last comment before Matt talked about how great it was having Rory there, Matt is such a humble guy, mad-props to you Matt, you guys should've had the owner buy a new starter, and you could've fixed it on the spot, then drove it out of there with AC, and power-steering-n-brakes.

That's what I love about living in Utah, all of the places to get lost, from one end of the state to the other. I can drive from the Idaho border to St. George in about 5 hours, but you guys also drove 200 miles and it took you 6 hours!

Yikes, that was a long day! What's a recovery quote for a job like that? Your videos always make me think about having to be recovered in some of the way out places I've gone. The desert is a rough place to break down. Awesome job as always 💯🌞👍

Love your videos. 🙂 Sounds like the starter just shorted itself out. If you run into that issue again (starter staying engaged), it'll be a lot easier to just bring a starter and throw it in. Save yourself a lot of towing time. 🙂

I just got back from 5 days in the Maze District, the whole time we were imagining what a recovery would look like so this is cool to see. Certainly remote and difficult to access, but so worth it every time. Just glad we were all in Toyotas, not fragile Jeeps!

So if you had your big yellow off road rig would you have used it..on this type of a recovery being like 350 miles away. or do this way ..Thankyou love you show...
