All the people worried that the morrvair was going to be super heavy - sometimes you need the mass. I'm almost more impressed by the ropes and soft shackles holding up.
@rickshiandmoku41283 жыл бұрын
I think it's only about a thousand pounds more than the jeep. Those huge tires are really helping distribute the mass. They created a hell of a rig that's for sure 🤙

The shackle for sure . I thought that might fail . Shame On me
@brianhaygood1833 жыл бұрын
@@rickshiandmoku4128 That semi tractor is probably something like 12,000 pounds. So, it is only 2.5x the Morrvair, but 3 times the Jeep. When kinetic energy is your tool, that means a heckuva lot. The huge tires help once you are rolling, though. Jeep just would have had to get a little more speed up, but probably would have done this one. Great to see how each change has its pros and cons.

And all the people worried that the MORR crew eats very unhealthy at the gas stations - sometimes you need the mass. Haha. Like in this video where they all had to sit on the back of the trailer. :-)
@brianhaygood1833 жыл бұрын
@@chrisestill8825 No. F=ma. KE=1/2*mv^2, so the speed has a bigger influence than mass in the amount of energy. If you want to get picky, once you've put that energy into the system, the impact of the banana on the end of the rope will still impart a lower percentage of that energy to the truck due to the faster deceleration of the banana, which imparts force for a shorter time, decreasing the impulse on the truck. End result: the banana can do it, but has to travel a little faster so it puts in more energy, so the same force can be imparted to the truck in the end.

Yet another Super recovery by Matt &Co. I was called to a tow in the winter on ice, Sandy told me it was a small trailer called a "Lowboy". The driver assured me my little 11,000lb Ford tow truck will yank his semi + lowboy out of where it sank in the ice overnight. I said, "OK, let's do some quick math here." He was correct, but the county power pole was twitching & wagging like an over excited puppy dawg, as my twin line was boom up and overtop my cab to the pole. This focused all the load directly onto the head of the twin line boom. Recoveries are the Ultimate test of your skill sets. Great video and recovery by the entire counter-weight crew. Most of that weight is right on the steers. Somewhere in the 8500-9500 range. Tires appear to be 295/75-22.5 lo pro so around 40". Once the Morevair got that front end out of the holes it was gonna roll... its ALWAYS the steers that dig on a bobtail tractor. The rears have more float, even on a single screw than needed.

You can't pay for advertising like that Matt. Well done.

This is one of those recoveries were I can't believe the customer is not totally shocked by you showing up in a Corvair to pull a semi out of sand and then doing it with ease. If I didn't already know what the Morrvair was capable of I wouldn't think it possible. Goes to show the quality of one of your builds. If the Morrvair can do this then I can't wait to see the "Worlds biggest off road wrecker" and what all it will be able to do.

As somebody who drives a tractor-trailer for a living, I have many questions.

Me too. I've got a bunch of miles running BLM and private "roads" toting a 48' spread flat. Never had a trailer turn so fast when backing that I couldn't catch it on a road that size.

As someone who knows nothing about tractor-trailers, I too have a lot of questions about how this really happened.

@@TheMrmoc7 The sand is soft and he was traveling slightly up hill. When he's spun out he tried to back up to get another run with more momentum. The trailer was starting to turn off to one side. He stopped and tried to pull forward and he spun out. So he backed up a little more and the trailer will go more sideways. Try to pull forward again and he's spun out again. Every time he would try to back up a little to get unstuck the trailer would go more sideways. Then he decided to unhook the trailer to try to get on firmer ground with the tractor. Now he has all of his weight on the skinny tires in the front and with out the weight of the trailer on the back the dual rear tires set on top of the sand with no traction and plows the heavy front end down in the sand. Then you're just spinning the rears and they bury themselves too. That's exactly how that happened.

@@Ares-jx4ep He didn't just jackknife the trailer in one fail swoop. When he spun out he was trying to back up a little to get another run. Every time he would back up a little at a time the trailer would just get further and further out of shape. Then he decided to unhook to get the tractor on more solid ground and he buried it. It's always best to stay under your trailer. Without it you have no traction with duals. I was getting unloaded at a job site and it was a muddy sloppy mess. Watched another driver trying to get unstuck. His trailer was actually in pretty decent shape but his tractor was in softer mud. He was trying to get turned around and spun out. He got the bright idea if he dropped his trailer and came at it from a different angle he could get himself unstuck. As soon as he pulled out from under and he was done. Now he had the whole freaking thing blocked and I had to sit there for 3 hours till the tow truck come and got him out.

I was thinking more, what was he doing there in the first place.

Hang in there Weather Man , your turning into my favorite weather person . I get a Good Feeling every time you guys rescue Someone or some Family. When I watch your little 4x4's pull out RV's & Big Trucks I hear that old cartoon song from , 'Mighty Mouse '. " Here I come to save the Day ....."

When you said you were going to put some weight on the other end of the trailer I was thinking something more substantial than Ed and Lizzy! ;-) Good job though

I had no doubt that the MORRVAIR would succeed! I'm sure it will take a lot MOR for the MORRVAIR to not succeed. You have created a sand pulling, dune yanking monster that everyone looks forward to seeing the next challenge!!
