I think the ranger was more worried about the destruction the wrecker banging around could lead to. He also knew the vegetation they would drive over would grow back and be less risky. That’s why even said he didn’t want to tell how to do his job but also tell Matt it was ok to drive over some vegetation to make it safer for all. The rangers out here love nature just as much as Matt does.

29:20 - I'm impressed by the respect and deference paid to Matt by the police officer. He had a differing opinion and offered it, but offered it as a suggestion, not as "you really should do this differently. Kudos to him! It also shows great leadership. The officer was detached, apart from the situation and could see the bigger, strategic picture, rather than the tactical issue Matt was having. It's a quick snippet in a much longer video, but the lessons here are GOLD.

Here is a thought from an old Cowboy from Seligman AZ, carry a bottle or two of rubber cement with you. Those small thorns don't come out easy but if you lather some rubber cement over them let is set up you can peel the cement off and the thorns will come with it even the little hair ones that you can't see they tend to wake you up later in the night letting you know you missed something. I have an suggestion to help you on towing the small 4x4's like that one and it will only cost you some cool swag. Make a small trailer that is just long enough to fit the biggest 4x4 you rescue. Make it super light weight with big thin tires and 2 ramps for the 4x4 to drive up and sit on that will hold the buggy off the ground. Put a bulkhead on the front and put multiple tie down points on it. Design it so it is hinged and folds down into a smaller shape. Make it fold a bit in front of the tires and have 2 5' 3''x3'' steel channel tubes slide from the front to the rear to lock it from folding. Put a receiver on the back of the tow truck so the front end of the trailer can mount to it and be held off the ground when traveling to the rescue. Use the winch on the tow truck to pull the back of the trailer up off the ground and hold it tucked in close to the truck when not loaded. So the front end of trailer mounts to tow truck bumper, and rear end is held off the ground with the winch by attachment points at the fold. Make it so the wheels can be removed and installed easily if the weight or size is to much for towing to get to the job. Now you can load a wrecked 4x4 on the trailer and it can not swing into the back of the truck and get damaged. You can also tow over larger rocks without damaging the 4x4. This would also allow you to recover 4x4's without wheels as well as ones that can no longer roll. I take a 4xl hoodie and have a big head for my hat size, and if Ed or Matt could sign it it would be super awesome kek. P.S. Love the show. Keep up the good work!
