@@williamg2552 better question is: Why not? I'm looking at a 1968 Valiant for sale for $3500, engine runs like crap but is still roadworthy. I'm told by a mechanic I know who specializes in old Mopars who says if I can get it below $3000, do it but even $3500 is semi decent for one that drives and is inspected and will pass inspection.

It's crazy how this was a suggested video from KZbin. I actually talked to this guy 2 years ago at the state fair about his duster and he is my inspiration to supercharging my 64 Plymouth Valiant four on the floor convertible. Crazy how this video comes circling back to me. Too bad I couldn't make it to mopars this year due to engine trouble. Next year! He's a really nice dude!

Proof that almost ANYTHING can be made to go fast if you're willing to spend more money and include some intense planning, engineering and fabrication of parts that aren't necessarily found on the shelf of jegs. I'm not really a mopar guy but kudos to this guy for being a success at taking the road less traveled. Cool car, even better conversation piece.

Wow does that bring back memories! An older brother of a very good old friend of mine had lost his license back in 1971 driving his 1970 GTX 440 Six Pack, so his father made him trade it in on a 1971 Plymouth Duster that looked exactly like this one! But his was a Three Speed Stick. With a Slant Six. But he got one over on his father, he took the engine out an brought it to an engine builder, where together the balanced and blueprinted it along with forged internals. From what he learned in the process was the Slant Sixes that were back then still built in America were basically very easy to bulletproof! He had a custom ground camshaft and the heads ported and polished with a triple two brl manifold and Holley carbs, along with a high energy ignition system installed. He was never able to find out how much power it made, but with the four speed transmission and 4:10 gears he was able to get in the low 13’s. At over 100 mph! Plus get just over 20 mpg driving there to the track.

Now if Dennis Weaver had this bad ass slant 6 in his 4 door red Plymouth Valiant in the movie Duel. The outcome would have been different but except for that pesky upper radiator hose. Didn't matter, you can never kill a slant six. My buddy had a 66 Valiant with a six, when it was time to dump it. We cut the lower rad hose, put a brick on the pedal, ran for a 1/2 hour, didn't do anything. So we drained the oil and started her back up, ran for another 5 minutes before she blew up. But that was in 82.

By the time I'm done, everybody wants to own them, but they're worth more than cash money to me. Slant Six way way way way way underrated . Those things were put in every kind of application . Car trucks some made to go fast on the drag strip and yes people did drag race these. So many of the beautiful engines were just to get people from point A to point B . It did that it did that with very few issues . You could put 500,000 mile son these without a rebuild as long as you changed you're oil every 3,000 miles. I miss engines like this not well known but was the workhorse for so many cars for so many years.

There just aren't a lot of readily available parts to do it. There is a company that makes superchargers specifically for slant sixes now. There are some cams available, 4 barrel intakes, headers, etc. But, you won't find aluminum heads, stroker kits and the like. Your window for improvement is REALLY narrow. It can be done, but you better be creative.
