I was creeping through grass with the lake drawn down and snuck up on three 4 plus pounders in a foot of water hiding in grass. Now because of this video I’m kicking myself for not throwing a buzz bait over that grass flat. Wish I would have seen this video 2 days ago. 😂

Great tips as always Matt. I like to stuff an old plastic worm in a hollow tube to help keep it on the hook when using it as a buzzbait trailer.

I LOVE Buzzbaits and I always use soft plastic trailers without skirts. However, I do have an issue and I’m hoping I can get some advise and tips on how to fix this issue. I mostly use soft bodied frogs, but they make my Buzzbait run on its’ side. Picture the blade on the left and the frog on the right coming across the surface towards me instead of the blade on top with the frog just underneath it. Any reason why this happens? (Edit) In reference to using swim baits that use tougher materials as a Buzzbait trailer, check out the River2Sea D Walker in the 120mm size. Extremely durable bait with a lot of action.
@MattStefanFishing Жыл бұрын
Buzzbaits want to rotate in the direction of the blade. If the frog isn’t rigged right it will actually catch water and enhance the rotation. Less bulky baits will run truer and ultimately reeling slower is the best way to get it to run truer
@MailmanDownEDC Жыл бұрын
Thanks for your info, Matt. I rig the frogs “flat” so that the belly of the frog is facing the ground with the hook point aimed towards the back of the head. I don’t know why, but it seems hard for me to explain this so that you can get a mental image of it. LOL!! 🤣 How’s about I say “The frog isn’t rigged sideways.” 🤣 I have several types of swim baits and craws I can rig to see if the Buzzbait runs truer and I will vary my retrieve speed as well.

For my homemade downsized buzzbaits I’m trying the tube recommendation from an earlier video of yours. The tube of choice is a z-man. These are thin and slide/keep over the weight nicely. Will be out trying it soon. For more rise, I’ll be using the smaller Zman goat for the flat profile, but I have yet to find the color I want. Any skirt I use is round rubber.

Any pointers on making your own small buzzbaits (what parts are you using, etc)? I may end up having to try that unless I can find some mini buzzbaits with good keepers for small plastics somewhere.
@mistertwister1816 Жыл бұрын
I do everything from scratch. Blades from aluminum sheet, heads from bullet weights (lead flattens with a hammer), wire from 0.035” stainless, etc. A good video resource is haru834 on the tube. To connect a hook to the wire, I simply pass the wire through the hook eye and wrap it around the hook near the hook eye about 5 times with pliers. I make my own spinner baits the same way…cutting the blades from brass sheet and hammering them to shape on a piece of scrape wood with a large round head carriage bolt. For plastic keepers I tie on a small bent section of 0.024” wire onto the hook shank. Like I said, check out haru834 as his work is similar to mine.

@@mistertwister1816 Wow, you're serious about starting from scratch. Impressive. I'll look up the haru834 videos. Thanks for the pointer.

Does anyone know of any toad style buzzbaits that are really small? I'm looking for something similar in size to the Strike King Mini Pro buzzbait (1/8 oz) but without a skirt and with some sort of keeper for plastics. I've found that I often get much better results with mini buzzbaits that have a more subtle sound and smaller overall profile, but it seems that all the toad style buzzbaits with plastics keepers I can find are the typical 3/8 oz size with large blades.

fast us generally the fastest you can retrieve a certain bait without ruining its action

Thanks but this reminds me the old joke...two guys are LOST in a hot air balloon. They lower the balloon to get directions from a guy on the ground. They yell down, "where are we"? The guy yells back, "you're up in the air". One guy in the balloon turns to the other and say, "that guy is an accountant"...he gave us perfectly accurate information that was most useless. I'm not busting your chops, its my deficiency. Any self respecting bass fisherman should know this. That said, it is hard to know how many strikes I miss because the fish just got too good of a look at my lure.

I like the toad slayer but I have issues tuning it. It wants to run at an angle with the bait kicked to the right of the blade. It runs straight but at like 45 degree angle. Ive tried tweaking the wire but can’t seem to to get it right? I use the zman Billy goat. Any suggestions outside of small tweaks to the wire ?
@MattStefanFishing Жыл бұрын
all single blade buzzbaits run at an angle depending on rotation of the blade. if you are talking about the bait turning id try something other than the bill goat. zman products tend to float pulling the bait up causing it to run crooked sometimes.
@farrzmd3038 Жыл бұрын
@@MattStefanFishing thanks. I didn’t even think about the floatation aspect of the elaztech plastic. I’ll try it next time with a standard plastic

Matt what's your thoughts on this... I've heard some pros say they either eat it up or not at all when it comes to a buzzbait. Do you think this is true? Or do you think that you might get a single bite or a couple bites but that's it.

If the bait has salts they will not float so it won't go up to the top water with the buzz baits just saying what I know about plastic. No salt is a floating up off the floor of the lakes like I like to use on buzz baits to keep them on top of the water.
