Putting a tube on a buzzbait as a trailer is a really really great idea! I wonder if wrapping a band around the base of the tube near the tendrils would cause that body to act almost like a balloon and give the bait lift, which might allow you to really slow that bait down. I'm going to try that!

Tried the tube on a 3/16 head today, and I was very impressed. I have been using soft plastic trailers for a while but been reluctant to lose the skirt because it lands more quietly with a skirt. Problem solved, buzzbait with a tube also has a soft landing. As an added bonus, it casts like a bullet.

I have experimented with a tube as a chatter bait trailer as well. The tails vibrate very well, and I don’t think it inhibits the erratic motion like bulkier trailers.

A tube buzzbait! I purchased a couple of 3 from some saltwater guides out of the Sabine Bay & River area of Louisiana back in the 90's at a Houston Spring Fishing Show! They used a two hook system. It was invented for fishing redfish in the shallows of the back bays, they said the redfish would be feeding on mullet, crabs and shrimp the had push up real shallow, but as soon as the bait engaged and started gurggeling they would submerge and chase the tube buzzbait and spank it! I think that's why they used two hooks? One was in the lead head and the other hooks eye was just ran over the barb of the lead head hook and hooked in the tube behind the first hook. Both hooks only extended out a third of the bend out of the 3" tube! I just fished it in Galveston Bay areas! Very effective early mornings and in the evenings especially on the beginning of the low tide if you can stand the mosquitoes in the back marshes! Chartreuse w/ metal flakes and a pearl with metal flakes worked the best especially if shrimp were still in the back or being pushed out on the tide! Bring extra tubes! The redfish shred them up!

I figured out that a tube makes a great substitute for a skirt on a buzz bait about 30 years ago. I make my own in 3 sizes. With a 1/8 size for a tube is the best since they can’t be cast with a bait casting rod with a skirt. The added bonus is my 1/8 #1 blade buzz bait with a tube sinks flat with a shimmy just like a Senko so I just stop it if I have a short strike or follow and they eat it!

you were ahead of the curve!

@@MattStefanFishing It's a shame I didn't realize it, lol. Back then I only fished a 1/8oz bait like that. It was pre braid and the tube made it possible to fish a 1/8 Buzz Bait on a bait caster. Tidal bass love that little Buzz Bait, I finished 15th at the 2007 FLW Stren Series on the Potomac with it!

I use a Biffle Bug for this same reason- they're hollow inside and fit a buzz bait like a glove. I tear off the center tail and just leave the little side legs to kick- but you can leave the center tail part on and put your hook point through it. The Jackal Archelon is also hollow inside and works great. Never thought about a tube, but I'll give it a shot.

Another awesome and informative video! Thank you for uploading this. Quick question. I’ve noticed that my Buzzbaits do not run with the bait/hook behind and below the blade. Isn’t the blade supposed to be at the waters surface and the bait/hook is directly behind and below the blade under the waters surface? My blades do run at the waters surface, but my bait/hook runs to the right of the blade and at the waters surface. Kinda looks like it’s running on it’s side.

I recently bought a little buzzbait because of your recommendation but I haven't tossed it yet. I think it's a 1/4 oz with a white skirt. Hopefully I have something that works as a trailer. Have you seen the Salt Strong Slam Shady and their other soft plastics? They're for saltwater but they work for freshwater too. And their new hybrid topwater/ jerk bait should be good for bass. Skinny Lipper is it's name. I'll probably try the Slam Shady on my buzzbait because of the size.
