What I tell ppl is that any bait will work on the Hover rig- but only certain baits will do something special when rigged on it. You can fish a craw if you want- but it won't be much different than fishing it on an EWG hook- but if you put a straight tail minnow or a beaver on- now it does something special that you wouldn't get without the hover rig- it glides and spirals, or it hovers in place and barely quivers, or it hops along bottom in this odd way where it moves toward you more than up. But I haven't noticed it impeding things like a rage craw- it just falls slowly because it's not very heavy.

I know this was 9 months ago. But yesterday I spent two hours on tackle and reels. I used 3 different Hover Rigs for my trip out tomorrow. I hope I catch a good bag. I’m focusing on using my FFS and minnows. Wish me luck.

I was lucky this year and I was able to use some bonus $$$ that I got so I treated myself to your core tackle hover rig, weedless hover rig, ozark rig and the Tush rig - I have my share of plastics to use these with. I even found some old auger tail worms on ebay and I bought a couple packs, I bet the hover rig used on one of these old worms would be a good setup!! Great stuff Matt and thanks for sharing these tips with us!!

Matt! Give the 3.5” O.S.P. Mylar Minnows a try! They work flawlessly for this application and they glide like CRAZY. Not to mention the realistic presentation and that flash they give off they just can’t resist em🔥 Great video by the way!

Hey Matt. What about a nice size tungsten hover jig that swims away from the ice hole during the ice season for jumbo perch? I guide on Lake Simcoe and I strictly use small plastics. I’ve tried a lot of jigs but nothing can do what the core tackle hover hook can achieve. I like spoons that swim away from the hole that you can have the pendulum effect on the way back. I’ve even tried a weight in the belly, but it takes to long to get down to the desired depth once you pull up the first perch, then you know you want to get down there as fast as possible; just like the 2nd smallmouth that follows the hooked one scenario!! Let me know if you decide to try a tungsten version on a size 6-10 gammy or Ryugi, or decoy, or??? Type of drop shot hook or worm style hook for tiny cricket, paddle tail, nymph, small bug like plastics.

Hey Matt if you’re looking for the hunting action, try jackall’s drftfry, it has a built in soft lip to make the bait hunt. Hurry though they are almost sold out everywhere and prices are inflated because of the shortage.

Question for you Matt . . . . since the increments on these are so close in weight . . . I'm not sure which one to try 1st. What would be a good 'starting point' ? I'd be fishing for bass using 6-8 lb. braid, to a 6 lb. fluro leader. I'll be in 15 feet or less with a bit of current at times (tide). I'd be using 3"-4" size baits. Thanks for any info.
@MattStefanFishing27 күн бұрын
go with 3/64 oz size to start but even though increments are close in size each weight makes a big difference in bait performance
