I’ve gotten some good bites on a weightless Texas rigged worm. It’ll come over the pads like a frog but will still sink down when you work into an open hole.

If you have the little pads, you can run a small 1/8 or 1/4oz single Colorado bladed spinner bait through them just under the surface. I get on average 5x the number of fish like this vs a buzz bait.

My lake has a few small pad areas and admittedly I usually just chuck a frog at them and if that doesn't work I move on, I will give some of those things a go.

Good info again. I wonder how many times in 60 years have lilly pads been featured in a artist's portrayal of a bass fishing scene. Ill bet Bass Pro shops hardcopy catalog front cover has had the most pad scenes. Thanks for the vid, your tips and tricks always seem to take me back to good memories of time and place. I reel swim jigs slow through other types of vegetation, but now I'll have to try it in the pads too! I imagine that if the bait rides up on top and I keep going slow until it finds another hole that the nice silent entry might startle a bass into biting.

Great info Matt. Here on NE Lakes I have had really good luck pitching a Z Man GOAT (very buoyant) with a 1/8 oz pegged weight on 15# Abrazx in open pads. It has a very slow fall which drives them crazy.

Matt, great video and outstanding info. I will try all those tips. The lake I will fish tomorrow has an acre size enclosed area full of pads. Since it is an enclosed area would I wast my time try to fish there? Finally, I cannot figure why anyone would give you a thumbs down for this video.

enclosed pad fields can be good especially if there is freshwater coming into it some how. for example by a creek or tidal water influx.

A question not about this video. Although was great as I’m trying to get better at pad fishing. How do you feel about the vmc hooks with the offset point? Do they make a real difference? Thanks for your info and the vids

I havent used the VMC hooks your referencing but in my experience and depending on the presentation a small offset can increase hook up percentage. But it also can make it easier to bend out the hook leading to lost fish.

i have never understoon why ppl use leader on clear water when fishing a cover , dead on with baits , just add weighless fluke to it and its killer , i did great in Lacross on practice in pads and grass when i was shad schooling in grass
