@@MattStefanFishing I’ve been long searching for a reliable craw style bait. I live in Western PA and smallmouth do eat crayfish pretty good here, but from my experience not overly big ones. Always get bites on the 2-3 inchers when using live craws as bait. I’ve tried several craw style imitation baits like the Christie Craw, zoom craw jr, rage craw, and I can’t get them to hit it. I feel the profile is too big.

Zman TRD crawz look extremely similar to the Biwa craw, and you get the zman durability. That’s what I would give to a new angler so I don’t have to keep replacing their plastics
@MattStefanFishing3 жыл бұрын
The Biwaa has been super good for me
@robertbrost77773 жыл бұрын
I have those and use them. Here is my problem with them. The TRD Crawz are constantly at a standing position from the minute they hit the water to every time the bait is standing still. I just don't see a defensive position 100% of the time being natural. ZMan corrected that with their Bulletz EWG jig by putting a ballast weight on the hook and, that seems to keep the craw at a more natural, horizontal position. But, with the Bulletz you trade hookup ratio as they are designed to be used skin hooked and weedless. JM 2 cents.
@moop19813 жыл бұрын
I am surprised you did not mention if the baits float like zman. Hence they stand up which to me is very important. Can you comment on that aspect of Ned rigging?

Great video. The main reason I only use Elaztech Ned rig baits is because they float. Do any of the baits you discussed float, and do you find that there’s much of a difference between floating and non-floating baits on a Ned rig?

I dont think the floating matters much except for slowing the fall in my opinion.

I have pretty much covered the gambit on ned rigs, I have circled back to the Zman trd , I just catch more fish on the standard trd , tried missile baits , berkley , zoom, googan , 10,000 fish and robo worm, strangely enough I can't get a fish on a crawl style ned rig, tried crawl z, some other generic crawls and even a sukoshi bug, nothing, I will give up my secret ned rig bait because I doubt people around me will read this lol, Zman trick shotz which is a drop shot bait is an absolute killer for me , I rig it on a 1/16 or 1/10 ned head , Saturday I caught close to 30 bass and several slab crappie on one at Watts Bar
@MattStefanFishing3 жыл бұрын
thanks for sharing! ive done well on a flat worm as a ned bait too...kinda has a similar profile to the trick shotz

I really think here in East TN the fish treat a ned rig like a crawdad with no pinchers, maybe Im wrong but I heard about an old study done about fish eating crawdads with 2, 1, and NO pinchers and if I remember right they said a fish was 75x more likely to eat a crw with no pinchers than with 2 pinchers? I cut 1 pincher off of most of my crawl trailers and it seems to be a good tactic? Either way I only fish the NED whenever Im desperate! LOL because that must be quite often! lol BUT THE NED almost always comes through!

Good stuff Matt. I basically use a jerk bait and the finesse TRDs this time of year. One for suspended fish and the other for bottom. I like those Lil Generals. I use the finesse TRDs a lot so, those look similar but bulkier. Here is the rub for me with a Ned Rig. I use the ZMan TRDs because they stand up somewhat. I find that appealing to the fish if for nothing other than it's visibility standing up. All other Neds lay horizontal on the bottom for the most part. I don't see that being as attractive. Is my thinking incorrect?

I'm looking for a good Ned jig- I've been using Z man and Strike King but I don't care for them- the hook is too light wire. The SK doesn't come light enough either- starts at 1/8th and I'm used to a 1/10th ounce. These look good- I like that keeper, and I like the shape of the head as well. The Z man heads are a bit too blocked off for me- they have a flat top. I like the rounded top like these. I'll pick some up. I was going to grab some of the Lil' Generals to but the only ones I can find are selling for 24 bucks a bag + shipping, no joke. The secondary market has gone nuts every since "The Great Flat Worm shortage of 2020"- now if it says Max Scent on it and they can't find them readily available other places- they triple the price and then some. I'll cut my 4 inch Generals down I guess- until they become more available.

Neds are unnecessary as mini flukes and such will render them second-class. Why ned when you can throw a tiny fish imitation at bottom? I do it all the time. As you stated, it's about the size, not so much the jighead unless you are standing it with the Ned head and with floating Elastech. Using neds mean you haven't understand the full scope of the ned. Technically speaking, IF's ned video is not a ned video bc he uses everything on a ned head or round jighead. However, this is what it is in theory. A true ned is tiny rig with a ned head, and the body should float or stay vertical. With that said, going on my style and IF's video, you don't need a ned head or a true ned body to have a ned rig or success.....you just have to get it close like a micro jighead. They all gonna go head first straight down, just won't stand. Basically, you just put a Zman trailer on a jighead and it will stand from the floating aspect, making it close to a true ned with it being Ned.
