I'm a self-proclaimed lipless connoisseur- an there's something about that War Pig that closes the deal man. I don't know what it is- I asked a few of them but- they weren't talkin'. But whatever it is- I really like it- in that color you showed specifically- and I'm fishing bluegill fisheries- go figure. For whatever reason- they like the shad color, they just bite it. And usually- I'm a big believer in the one knocker lipless cranks, took me a minute to even try the War Pig because -no offense to Berkley, but there's nothing obvious about it that makes it seem different. It looks and sounds pretty standard- but works especially well. I'm going to try that chatter bait setup you showed us though- I haven't thrown the elite yet. Just bought a new reel today to- which always motivates me to get on the water I love new gear. 13 Fishing Concept A- tough reel, I left it on top of my truck and drove off and had to go back and find it on the side of the road- it's fine- not a mark on it. It was in the box with padding, but I fully expected it to be busted- I'm relieved. It's not a cheap reel.

Thanks Matt, i think someone mentioned that you should start a subscription box, I'm in! I'm going to ask, but just ignore if you thing this is stupid 😊. But I sometimes struggle with trying to understand which baits are large mouth vs. small mouth and which are good for rivers vs. lakes. Is the answer that it doesn't matter...or does it just take more years of experience to figure it out?
@MattStefanFishing

some baits are interchangeable but others are not. I like the subscription box idea...but have no idea how to go about setting that up.

Hey Matt!! Great video!! Love the looks of that chatterbait combo!! Update.. got home from work travel today and had my TW order of hover rigs waiting. Walked down to the dock and had a fish in the first 5 casts!! I rigged with a kvd dream shot because I didn’t want to open the flat worms. Amazing action and I love the versatility because you can fish it fast like a fluke with a deadly action or slow like a shaky head. Have a feeling it will hold a spot in my lineup for years to come! Thank you!!

Do you think fish really hold on to Berkley Power Baits longer than other plastics? I definitely get a lot of bites on Gulp but it gets trashed by tail biters and bluefish. I have some really good looking Power Bait jerk shad minnow type things but haven't played with them yet. I did catch freshwater trout with their trout bait in jars. Their stuff seems effective so I just wonder what you think about the claims on the packages.

With regard to bucket mouth moving into bluegill sunfish occupied area. Hot hot mid day AZ, local urban lake( I call it a toilet bowl because it's so horribly managed and basically a pool that's allowed to go yuk with water pumps in the center to turbulate and raise the 02) claims of "monster bass" and actually a 12# record from one other lake. I've taken a 5 from another urban lake. So I'm walking the shore, don't own a less than 12' boat. Drop shot and swim jig I have caught two already and I'm watching the less than 3" blue gill sunfise occupy the pond scum and small cover close to the shore. They dart around n chase like as in an aquarium. I can see areas swept out like beds but no occupant. Working around the pipe going to the turbulator fountain I notice a nicer bass and stop to watch. It is just hanging out with the sunfish. If they're forage why aren't they hiding or running. Then I notice a even larger bass cruise in the area so there is now two. I'm thinking they are going to work to get some forage loose to eat. But it too just hangs out. Now I know my robo dropshot works so I cast it down the pipe about 12' away and just barely give it a movement and I see the line move away and it isn't me. it's one of the two I was watching that ran right out to smash it. So, the bass was willing to strike fairly actively but didn't act when there is bite size morsels right there. The only thing I can surmise is that they've not switched to the next food source level like Doug Hanna always said it takes for a bucket mouth to get into that large size. I think I'm going to purchase some larger worms and test that monster bass theory. The 3" robo was successful. I tried the 3" craw but no action. Switched to a larger craw with bigger profile and got two more. I'm also on the hunt for a cheap truck bed boat. Gonna see if I can't disprove the urban myth of have to be there at the butt crack to catch the active monster. I used to watch the bass corral shad too I'm wondering if the shad are a more rich resource like craw is over the bluegill or maybe the energy output to capture the bluegill sunfish isn't as worth it to the linebacker of the water.

@secretbassrigs
@secretbassrigs Жыл бұрын
Better smaller tackle makers usually sell flat line-tie chatter baits that are connected to the blade with a split ring. They hunt really well. Even better is making your own the same way. It depends how much you fish and how often you lose the factory ones. If you have a lot of snags in your lake, like i do in Southern California (mostly overkill strength line from unconcerned bank fisherman that use hand lines), and are afraid to use them in certain areas, i recommend making your own. You're missing out.

Those are all absolutely great baits! For me, a jerkbait has been absolute money. The other day I had several rods rigged with various cranks and jigs and all I used was my jerkbait setup - A Yozuri 3DB 110SP that you can get at Walmart for like 8 bucks. I had 4 quality fish in the boat in less than 15 minutes.
