Mr. Denny Brauer told me at a Bassmaster Classic a few years ago that if I wasn’t getting hung, I wasn’t putting it where the fish live. I’ve remembered that ever since then!

Casting accuracy is a must. I keep up during the off season or any time I have too much time away with practice. This can be with an old crank without hooks. Tie on at the tail of the bait to reduce drag thru the grass. A dropshot weight can simulate a jig, texas rig or drop shot. A target can be a loop of hose or a coffee can. I'll stand on a milk crate to mimic the bow deck. 15-20 min every couple days keeps me on top of my game. Skipping can keep you under the cover also, if you don't know it , it's worth learning.

I don’t know about the deeper. Maybe that’s true for bass but for musky I find keeping my lure in the top 5 feet of the water column produces the most strikes no mater how deep.

Those are all great tips. And things I try to live by when fishing. The one thing I will say is with the depth of my bait. I always try to fish something that dies to the death relative to where I am fishing. But I do catch myself sometimes zoning out more likely than not when they're not biting well. And after a while I will realize I am working it too fast and not at my desired depth

Very good points you covered there. I have a bad habit sometimes of spending too much time in one spot. I'm learning though that just because you caught one there the last 3 times does not mean you are going to today. Good video👍

What not to do: Hooked a hog of a largemouth yesterday on my 8 lb fluoro rig (instead of my braided setup). Instead of doing the smart thing and grabbing my net, I impatiently pulled the bass (and vegetation) out of the water & snapped the line! (Was angry with myself the rest of the day!)

I got some 3/4 oz Tush hooks today. I guess the rest are still on the way. Looks like I'll need to buy some different soft plastics that can take the weight of them inside. What you just said about getting stuck is very true in the saltwater world too. If you don't get stuck on rocks and stuff you ain't flounder or grouper or snapper fishin'. I buy lots of jig heads and tails for them. I'll be careful with my Hover Rigs and Tush hooks until they're in stores.

One thing I learned watching MLF is how many times the pros go back to where they already caught fish and then catch some more. I’ve been doing that and it works. Some areas just hold fish.

Making those bomb casts is something I do more often then I need to. I fish tap water most days and my inclination is to want to get that bait out there as far as I can. Usually I can still get a good hook set because I do tend to be patient and let the fish get the bait. But it has come back to bite me in the backside.
