It is a very spacious, luxurious and practical house that lends itself to multiple activities and venues, so it is very tempting. The interior is quite nice, even though the exterior is architecturally insignificant and industrial. It is very well laid out and the furnishings, though a little industrial, are still classy. It is also quite close to Cambridge, so that makes it quite compelling. I believe if I had the money, I would buy it, unless I had better options. A- Let's take a look at my requirements: 1- I first need to like the people. I like the British and the Italians, so my primary requirement is fulfilled. 2- I'm a middle-aged man with very young children, all under 7, so it has to be a home that not only fulfills my requirements, but also provides my children with venues and spaces for a physically active and socially vibrant lifestyle and convenient access by foot or bicycle or train to a good school, a town, or a city and friends, along with a degree of insulation from noise and intrusive people for me. My children are too small to drive, and I don't want them reliant on me or a chauffeur, so they should be able to walk, bicycle, or take a train/bus. 1.7 miles isn't much for children, and it is good for them to exert. 3- I would prefer views of and access to an ocean(if the water is warm and shallow for a swim, which would be hard to find in the UK), a lake, a river, a mountain, a city or town, but I could do without those if the property had other offerings, like this one. 4- I like multiple, large and open exterior and interior spaces(for multiple activity and entertainment venues) and well-lit environs--windows, skylights, etc. , in particular a great-room with preferably towering ceilings. 5- I would appreciate a topographically diverse exterior, with a few large grounds, whereas the rest can comprise of hills, meadows, rivers or streams. I don't like ponds, they draw insects and mosquitos and provide no benefits. 6- I don't usually pay much attention to the interior because it can always be redone. I like this property because it has multiple activity and entertainment venues, is spacious and luxurious, and is close to Cambridge (for my children's schooling. I would expect Cambridge to have good schools around it). I would also love a property on the outskirts of London for the social and business venues, provided it has access to a train or metro station. I did love the 13-bedroom house in Darley Dale(Stancliffe House), but it was too remote. I also loved the landscape around the Lake District home, but this home is far more luxurious. That would be nice to have as a holiday cottage. B- My choice of home would depend on either my income or the ability of the property to generate an income and, at least, pay for its own upkeep. 1- This home doesn't really require an army of servants to maintain it, so the cost of ownership would be quite modest. It also is well insulated and relies either on geothermal or solar heating/conditioning; I couldn't care less if it didn't, but that is a plus to lower the bills. Not that I'd be adamant on living outside the city, but the fact that this isn't a metropolitan area, also means that the taxes would be quite low. 2- A home the size of Stancliffe House would require staff and servants, but that wouldn't be an issue if I had the income or if the property could itself generate an income to pay for its upkeep. a- These days, one can't employ tens of servants for a lawn, but a few part-time workers should keep the landscape neat and tidy. Likewise, for the cleaning of the interior spaces. b- It doesn't matter how many employees the commercial operations require, if the property can turn a profit or pay for itself, as a Country Club, a private school, a boutique hotel, an inn, or a cafe, the number of employees would fade into irrelevance.

= exterior is architecturally insignificant and industrial you meant interior?
@assetstopurchase84322 жыл бұрын
@@MyAlexWest I meant precisely the exterior and a few of the interior furnishings, but nothing is perfect. It still is appealing because of the multiple venues, the space, the towering ceilings, the light, and proximity to cambridge. The exterior is like that of a factory, not a home, and quite bland.

If i ever buy any of these homes, i'd be changing the rugs all over. You should consider telling her this if you know each other.

Great tour, enjoying fewer edits between rooms and buildings. I prefer the interior to the exterior which looks like a modern office, surprised it was a Huff house, most of the ones I see have glass external walls with steel frames. Great to see a working lift (unlike the one in Tenby 😉) good sized, spacious rooms, for its foot print you might expect more bedrooms. In day to day practical terms, I don't like multiple access doors to bathrooms, the staircase looks amazing but need a handrail to grip onto (and just imagine the finger prints on the glass 😉) and the barn, great size but most people won't utilise such a beast. Liking the garage, great size and love the see through doors.

It is easy to get carried away with Italian marble this and that, but when you have 4m you will see that there is no shower in the sauna room, that the exhaust fumes from the cars parking in the garage will penetrate into the hot tub area, perhaps while you are enjoying the hot tub. That the cinema room is only accessed via the master bedroom closet (???). I could go on.

@@venom5809 There is nothing wrong with marble and white marble, it is a beautiful material. However, finishing an entire floor of a giant home with small tiled high gloss white marble is a problem. White marble looks best when used intentionally and tastefully. It is a very hard and cold material, and works best on surfaces and in rooms where it can serve some form of function. Ex - kitchens, bathrooms, maybe wall accents in a dining area or formal living space/lobby, etc. You want to balance it out with other materials like wood, metal, stone, concrete, etc or else it's going to look like a bathroom from 1999 swallowed your home and threw up high gloss white everywhere. If someone is dead set on using white marble for an entire floor, the absolute least they should do is to use larger slabs with a honed (matte or semi-matte) finish accented with rugs to break up the spaces.

My Own Property Check-List: For me, the following features are imperative: 1- A 30-minute drive or train- or bus-ride to a major city, with a good university for my children. This property has that. 2- Good primary to secondary schools for my children. There should be many around Cambridge, so even that need is addressed. 3- A large outdoor area for multiple outdoor recreational activities and social venues for me and my children. This property has that. 4- A large indoor area for multiple social and recreational venues for my children. This property has that. 5- Numerous bedrooms for me, my 4 children, and occasional guests. This property has that. 6- A study-cum-library insulated from noise, but with excellent outdoor views and even a peek of the great-room. This property has that. 7- A wide open and well-lighted great-room with towering ceilings for entertaining guests. This property has that. 8- A train-station or bus-stop within walking or bicycling distance, so my children are neither overly reliant on me nor on a chauffeur. 9- Access to and views of a an ocean (with soft-sand beach and warm crystalline water), a lake(with a pier and mountains or hills around it), a river(with flatland, meadows, hills, or mountains around it), or a city(with cafes, restaurants, night life, and shopping). This property doesn't have that, but then you can't get everything, so unless there is a better property, this fulfills my needs. 10- I would prefer an aesthetically appealing exterior and a more personal interior, but the interior can be redone and even the exterior can be made more appealing, so unless there is a better property, this fulfills my needs.

As a Registered Building Inspector I can understand why the architect raised an eyebrow about the kitchen in the middle because it impacts heavily on means of escape, due to the higher probability of causing issues of compliance with Approved Documents B under fire regs. Without seeing all the means of escape windows I’d suggest that the cinema room was an inner room and would be non compliant with fire regs, I’d want a mean of escape window in the cinema room.

Some of Tom's contributions help- like pointing out the double wine fridges which were visible from where he was standing but not visible to Jazz. But, man, the rest of the time he's just repeating what she's saying. Also, maybe he uses the camera's mic(?), but his voice is louder than hers when he does talk.
