As a teenager in the late 60’s I was on a flight from NYC to Rochester, NY. Count Basie and his band were the only other passengers. I grew up listening to his music and loved it. I introduced myself to him and told him what a big fan I was. He was so gracious and kind…..I can still see his big smile and I got lots of autographs that day! I was so thrilled!

The best concert I ever saw was the Count Basie Band playing in the hot sun on the sidewalk right on 6th during a jazz festival in NYC for 2 1/2 hrs. You could tell that they were they were getting off on the rhythms of the city in their home base. in 1975. Ill never forget it.

I had the pleasure of hanging out with Rufus in Lake Tahoe around 1967. My room was right next to his. I heard double bass drum pounding on my wall. Knocked on the door and who pops out but Rufus. I almost fell off my shoes. We went to Reno together on our nights off to hear this young drummer that Rufus thought played better than him.

I found this song while researching Count Basie for my religious rock n roll class project and after listening to the first 10 seconds I immediately fell in love with the song!

This music has life: bounce, punch, dynamics, harmonies, melody. Perhaps the last we may hear of such: the musicians are gone. The musicians of today may be good, but they lack the soul this music requires. Miller, James, Ellington, Basie, etc... all gone. The world is a lesser place without them.
@chaceschnaath6384 жыл бұрын
ya, I don't really, however, like to much of jazz when it was more of an art form rather than straight up dance music, but I do appreciate metal a lot because of the musicianship there as well.

Always a treat !!!! Watched a video about the way coloured musicians were treated on tour (usually in a bus or collection of cars) . The interviewer asked why they put up with the trials and tribulations. 'Ah!' one guy said. 'But at night we had the music!!!'
