Philippines Expat: Do older Filipina's make better wives?

The great debate on finding happiness in the Philippines is should you be looking for a younger or older woman? As I know many expats make decisions before they arrived in the Philippines that were long-term based on "beauty". Which over time can wear off as conversations run dry and realising they have nothing in common with their new young bride.

I didn't start out to find a filipina much younger than me, but it just happened. I am 51 and she's 29. Best decision I ever made. She loves working and taking care of the house. I help her too, of course and she is very good with money. She worked for years to support her family, and knows the value of a dollar.

I started out being married to a young Filipina who had just turned 20 a month earlier. I also used to be married to a 30 year old Filipina. Then, for ten years, I was married to one in her 40s. Great video Matt, you are filled with so much good and truthful info. I always see the old men with those young girls here in Cebu and like you said all the girl does is have her face gluded to their phone while the guy just sits there with a blank look on his face. You can tell they have nothing to talk about and live a pretty sad and boring existence. Sex and money has to be the only thing keeping them together..... I am an older man but I prefer an older lady who can accept me for who I am. It bothers me to hook up with a young woman but the right lady would be OK. If the lady has children it is also OK. If her parents need assistance this is also fine with me. I am in very good health and don't look my age. I exercise every day and eat healthy. I can easily live on 200,000 pesos a month in the Philippines with the right lady. I don't want to shack up but wish to be married. No fear I am a good looking man..I've been told...lol

I listened to a few of your clips and I must have hit the JACKPOT with my Filipina wife she is awesome and we do everything together share the same friends and I tried talking to expats in Philippines wow stuff them they are bitter jealous and having pissing contests. I have great Filipino friends in Philippines and in Australia. My wife spends more on me than herself. By the way she is 9 years younger than me and has kids and we have a child together now. I am better off now then I ever was she is great looking after our money she is better at it than me. I gone from being a disability pensioner working small jobs sometimes but owned nothing to now owning a home in Philippines and Australia. We work together from home for our and our kids future. LOVE wow so much love. I was married to a western woman before and what a disaster gone from hating life to loving my life. PS we did this since 2010 in 8 years. She is a hard working supportive wife the love of my life I am so proud of her. If you get married to a Filipina make sure you chose right.

Sounds like you have a great setup and fantastic wife, I have a similar setup and agree as having the right partner makes a huge difference. What you mention about the financial control and shared responsibilities are some of the factors that make this work much easier than many find in the West (including myself). The what yours is mine and what mine is mine doesn't exist as the responsibilities and ownership is done as a couple. As such the relationship starts with less friction than most in the West tied with a commitment to each other.

Hi Matt, Very informative video. I'm a Filipina in my mid 40's and my American husband just turned 50 this year. We met here in the US. He is in the furniture business and I am a cardiology nurse by profession. We've been married 11yrs now. I say, we are happy, on the same page with what we want in life and what we hope for the future. We are in our early preparation stage to eventually retire in the Philippines. I agree that communication and commitment are strong and essential part of a healthy marriage.

Once again, my personal experiences and opinions mirror yours on this matter. Although separated by more than 15 years in age, my wife was in her early thirties when I met her and it has proven to be a most durable and happy last 13 years together here in the PI. Whereas my close friend of 40 years, who has spent 25 years wintering in the PI, still foolishly pursues young woman relationships that eventually blow up in his face.

Anyone that's been here longer than 2 months should know its not a good idea to date an 18-19-year-old girl. The allure of that young and fresh body and the flower that's never had a baby pass through it wears off really quickly once she opens her mouth. I got lucky, mine is 23 but she was the eldest and had been helping to support her family for a long time so she understands responsibility. But in general, I do not recommend you go below 25 when dating in The Philippines.

For 18-30 age group the type of guy they are after is likely unrealistic. The age is probably as much as they have thought about. It's why I recommend older women as maturity levels in the Philippines are lower than the West. Women in early to mid 20s can often be the same level as teenagers in the West. I recommend 30+ as women by then have matured a lot but also experienced life and relationships. They also are more set on a family life than partying.

Matt you make some excellent points. I am 56 married to a 33 year old with 17 year old mindset. She is constantly on her cell phone , chatting with friends and playing games. In states for almost 3 years, she works and sends money to her family ( mom and dad) diligently, she is their Social security fund. It does get old and redundant after a time. In hindsight , older is better in most cases. Not sure of our future, it is tough to live with a person that is so aloof.

Its like you say gets old after a while as you become the "burden" of other people's retirements. Instead of focusing on paying for your own. As well as the money disappearing from a partner, before we left the Philippines its one of the reasons we focused on the apartment construction. As it left a legacy to not only cover such costs but also to grow.

I do know there are two basic types. You have the women in the larger cities such as Cebu, Manila, Baybay etc. who get away with this because the population density is vast.. and then you have the women in the provinces who are a bit more ethical. Actually, far more ethical. It's the same way in any country in the world. My military career blessed me and cursed me with this lesson. It's the same game in every country. When you venture into the remote regions of any country, the US included, you find in the country people who are more family oriented. They also have strong morals for the most part. I'd speak of the issues in developed countries but why? We all know those stories which is why we have looked toward under developed countries to find that partner in life that has a higher view of things. But again, it's the same game in any country.

It's a tough guess as to whether, or not, the woman you meet/marry is really in love woth you or looking more for the opportunity that you represent. My estranged wife was 27, and 4 months older than me, when we met. She allowed someone to interfere in our relationship almost from the very beginning and, 28 years later, I'd have to say that most of our time married has been a disaster, for me. When we were co-habitating she was rarely home, and, I was like a neglected dog. I gave up on us reconciling, in 2013, returned to Asia alone, and had a good time while being labelled as a sex-pat. Honestly, I think that the bar scene and casual acquaintances doesn't result in love, yet, neither did the other lifestyle, so, better a facsimile of love than getting burned eternally, imho.

My advice is to find a Filipina that has kids and a job. This is a woman that has her shit together and has no time for bullshit. Even better if she is a devout catholic. I'm with a Filipina that's 43yrs old and she has 3 kids and she works at a private catholic school and has been there for 10yrs. I've been there and have met her boss and her family. It's a big plus that her family likes you. I've had a 5yr LDR with my Filipina and when I finally went to meet her it was like we've been together for 20yrs. We have the same goals in life and the kids are our most important priority. Now being in this ldr for that long gave us the chance to really get to know each other. She never asked me for any money ever but when I knew that she would need help with anything for the kids I didn't hesitate to send her money to help. She would show me receipts for the computer that we had to buy for the kids when covid hit the world. Our daughter needed braces cause she had zero confidence in herself and I refused to ha e my babygirl have low self esteem and no confidence in herself so I sent the money for the braces. When she got the braces she immediately said mama I need to show papa my smile now and she video chat with me to show them off. That's another thing guys. Make sure you video chat with your girlfriend to make sure that she is who she says she is and to make sure she's not a man claiming to be a woman. Scammers are everywhere. I like this video my guy. beware women in 40's. They are close to perimenopause age and midlife crisis. Most divorces nowaday happen at that age now more than any other age. The will turn into your worst nightmare. The average age for menopause is 51. But perimenopause is around 43-51. If you have to pick an older woman. make sure her period has already stopped. Good luck

To think that someone in their 20s is necessarily shallow or superficial is definitely not so. People are free to think what they want, but I have met so many young women in the Philippines, especially in my wife's circle of friends who are very good people, smart, hard-working and driven. Much more so than a lot of older people I know, because they haven't been spoiled their whole life.

+Kano Daily It depends on the upbringing, you will find a lot of the women expats have married in the younger age groups aren't of the same metrics you describe. Most of my social circle in the Philippines is Filipino and all my wife's friends for example are all university graduates many of which are overseas. E.g. one does CGI for Hollywood movies and was at the awards for 300. Another develops graphics for Toyota, the ones in the Philippines still run government offices or their own businesses. E.g. a couple of our friends own a chain of pharmacies.

Young or OLD women they all have their advantages & disadvantages like all things in Life. Even couples with same age bracket get divorced. If you both are compatible age is just a number. Divorce happens in all age gaps. Some people are either just unlucky or had the wrong choice. Life is a mystery, nothing is 100% sure even if you calculate your decisions. I agree Bernard, tons of divorces for close/same age couples. There will be challenges ,likes/dislikes with whomever we choose to be with. Some/many older or mature men are such better lovers than younger guys. That's a bonus for younger women, like a skilled craftsman, very important. I think attitude vs age is the true litmus test with anyone. If a younger woman wants to grow and mature, and still have fun why not? However, aside from the annoying, consistent smartphone use, I'm more concerned with alcohol, (never had success with drinkers),smokers ,weed use, all of these vises destroy love and trust. Depends where you are but there is fiber, broadband and wifi available. Varying speeds but never believe the ads speak to a neighbour. Everyone I know has slower Internet than they were sold. E.g. mine is supposed to be 10 mb but I get between 1 and 3mb

Most are independent, educated, very responsible and financially stable. :)

We both want to live in the Philippines. I don't want her to come to America because this place will corrupt herand the kids and I want them all to remain simple and innocent of this place. My goal is to ha e a permanent residence visa and dual citizenship so if I need to leave and come back I won't have any issues. I love the simple life there and I'm cheap as well as my Filipina. When I was there I lived with her and anytime I would try to buy anything she would hagle with the vendor to get my purchase as cheap as possible. I learned right then to let her have my money do all the talking and just stand back and let her do what she does. I don't recommend this unless you trust your Filipina but she had 250,000 pesos of mine and she had my passport and wallet and my phones. She made that money last me the entire time I was there and she never took any of it for herself. I had to male her buy things that I wanted her to have because she is so independent. She's a very beautiful and incredible woman and I do know how blessed I am to have her in my life. Her and our children are why I'm willing to live there and sacrifice for them. She's my rock and we make a great team together. Good luck guys and always watch for any type of red flags that might tell you the girl you're with may be a scammer.

Hey Matt, Really enjoyed your talk, one of the best ones yet I've heard about life in the P.I. I might be a minority at 63, I don't want a young girlfriend or wife, too many hassles. 40-55 sounds much better. The young once can often get who they want, when they want locals and foreigners. They have all life ahead. Most of them have no life experience about care for their own life, ha ave an bank account, a decent job. Its like to have Relationship with a teenager. A older woman to know how to care for others. She probably have grown up kids or close to that she have raised her self becsuse her mother to old, if she even are still alive and if not, she might not even have parents to support . The older woman think they cant get any man and dont have all life ahead. Thats why they more likely put more effort and care in to their relationship.

If you have nothing in common, the relationship is doomed!! I see Australian, American and European men in their 50s with a much younger girl (19-21). And when their together, I rarely see the girl laughing, talking, joking or smiling at the guy. They look like two individuals who just happen to be together. It's strange. But I understand why she's with him and I don't blame her for it. Afterall, we all need to survive. But it's sad. Cause I know deep down, she'd rather be with a younger guy.

regarding very old expats with very young women i will say one phrase a lady said to me in the hospital on my newborns' son first check up with the pediatrician. she said looking at my son: i always wanted a baby looking like this (meaning western looking) but my expat husband was way too old. such a waste cause she was hot.

Can you trust her I would say someone that is in the 50s, openly admits to having an adult daughter and general life is more likely to be honest and trustworthy than a woman much younger. Sounds like she's been open with you so you can make an informed decision.
