i love playing along with this song once you know the guitar parts. every single time im always following along with Albert's playing, i feel like im talking with Nick, and then when I'm playing along with Nick, it feels like I'm talking with Albert. musically this song is just amazing. one of my favorite strokes songs

You are a very astute listener! Everything in this song feels like it, they clearly spent the time to curate and arrange everything to align with that theme 👍

As someone who's recently discovered your channel and as someone who wants to learn more about songwriting and composing original material - there is nothing I would love more as a video from you than a "write your own chord tones riff tutorial". Casablancas is the coolest fuckin musician of our time and you make his ideas easy to understand and follow for intermediate musicians.

@@mattygregmusic Well idk, kind of a musician - I play drums (badly), bass (a bit less badly) and guitar (only started 10 months ago but I take lessons from a local guitar god). As for the songwriter part, absolutely not a songwriter but it's something I aspire to be, I guess it's my main aspiration in music actually. That's why I like your videos, they're easy to understand if you have some basic theory knowledge and they make me wanna play something and scrap a song together - but I have no audio software skills and don't know shit about recording music, and most importantly i have trouble coming up with interesting/catchy melodies and basslines and everything in general lol. Sorry for this long text wall after a simple question, its just really cool to interact with such a talented musician whose music I listen to and who makes really great lessons for people to learn from

@@juricabilus5842 hey i super appreciate the long text, i wanna hear about your musical journey! It's great you're taking lessons and getting better; never stop learning! As for songwriting and coming up with melodies, the best way to get better is to start writing! You can't build big muscles unless you go to the gym. Sure you won't start out super strong, but with consistency you'll be sure to get where you wanna be! Nobody writes good songs to start, but luckily you don't gotta share your first songs with anyone but yourself if you don't want to :)

could you explain what this top left corner visual means? your playing the top row notes, but where do they bottom row notes come from? and how the two rows are related? thanks
@mattygregmusic
@mattygregmusic Жыл бұрын
The scale degrees are the position of the notes in the scale relative to the root. So in the key of C: C=1, D=2, E=3, etc! And in the key of E: E=1, F#=2, G#=3, etc! Solfege is just a way to refer to them that makes it easier for singing and ear training. The Roman Numerals refer to the chords built off of those scale degrees. A chord built from scale degrees 1 = I, chord built from scale degree 4 = IV, etc

@@mattygregmusic Basically I think many artists are writing about the shortcomings of capitalism but most music criticism shies away from acknowledging that. Honestly it was a breath of fresh air to watch you flash “the ruling class” across the screen because the reality that we are being ruled by less the richest 5% of the population hardly ever gets brought up in political, let alone music discourse. I’m hoping to start making music content with a left-wing bias soon so maybe I’ll send you a video once I figure out what I want to talk about! But in any case keep up the great work!
